This industry should be deeply ashamed of itself with its DJ ecosystems deliberately being incompatible with each other and heavily leaning on predatory subscription models. The idea that in 2022 you need an obscure indie app from some Dutch wedding DJ (all the respect to Mixmaster G btw, the man is doing God's work) to make these systems even talk to eachother is just completely insane when you think of it. We're already in 2022 and it makes me sad the pathetic state in which this DJ industry still is. We're talking issues here that were already rampant a decade ago. Where the heck is open source when you really, really need it?
It's all about money! Smh why in the world pioneer make a Rekordbox only & a serato only version of hardware!? Wtf! Wasting valuable resources.. specially all the shortages we have been experiencing. Just the damn hardware compatible and let the djs choose what software they want to use..
@@MixMasterG My sincere apologies mate, no means to disrespect. "Wedding DJ" (which IMO is a skill on its own, definitely as intricate as club DJ) in this context is more meant as drive-in DJ. But if that's not even the case then I hope at least it made for a good quote to stir up this much-needed discussion.
@@Drrolfski no need to apology. As you rightfully point out, a wedding, club and mobile DJ are different jobs entirely, which only have in common that it involves music. When I was an active DJ, most Dutch weddings had a (usually very corny) live band of musicians. If there was a DJ, then mixing was really not done. Same with mobile DJs, those crowds wanted to hear "whole tracks from start to finish" preferably with an announcement from the DJ. The only place where live mixing was appreciated was the club/discotheque.
As an Open Format DJ that LIVES in Serato but also plays loads of D&B, this is a life saver. Nice that I can prep at home in serato, export, and ditch the laptop for the shorter sets / genre specific bookings. Thanks Mojaxx and MMG
Have just been through this process and encountered a snag, MMG was on hand with the fix (big ups!) even though it was 1AM in the NL...super happy with the product and where it's creator is coming from!
Thanks for this video. It’s also lovely to see DJ City making intro edits for Diljit Dosanjh, it will be great to have more music from India represented in the west. 🙌🏽
@@Mojaxx Aye! I love this. If yall are able to get legal permission to add remixes / edits, I'd love to send some samples in for review. I upload mashups on a weekly basis on my channel here. By the way, I tried lexicon for library converstion from Serato to Rekordbox last month & it worked amazingly well. It was very fast, easy & intuitive.
The monthly subscription fee of lexicon is almost the subscription fee of Serato AND Rekordbox combined. It is absolutely ridiculous pricing for a management tool. 💸💸💸
I'm so glad your doing a ( lexicon ) review. I'm on the fence with it. I'm using the free version at the moment. My issue is the subscription fee and if its worth is on a monthly scale. Its also still a little buggy.
Nice. Far cheaper than lexicon. But lexicon is pretty epic but did some weird thing where some of my tracks had the wrong details. So went to play attack and it turned out to be something entirely!
Totally unrelated question but has anyone compared output audio quality between Serato, Rekordbox and cdj’s with a usb drive? Is it a negligible difference or is one clearly better than the other?
What about Lexicon (AKA Rekordcloud) any feedback anyone? It's meant to also be a good DJ library convertor, just use it for a one time conversion and then cancel the subscription when done. Then just add tracks individually via the relevant DJ software's apps.
Since CDJs don’t handle MP4 format, is there a work around for video jocks to import their library somehow as audio only without having to redo all the cue points etc from scratch? Or avoiding having to make an MP3 copy? Great video as always!
Some of the later CDJ models can play audio in MP4 containers, but if you want to play it safe then it's best to convert them to MP3s. I take it that you talk about Serato cues, there is no way to preserve them when converting from MP4 to MP3s (and they would shift anyway due to encoder shifts). I recommend the macOS freeware app XLD to convert audio formats, which will maintain as much of the common tags as possible.
This is a great insight Mojaxx.. thank you Question.. I recently got a new laptop as a gift and I use 2 laptops now.. one for radio and one for the clubs.. I’d like to have both synced with the same library and crates.. what would be the best way of doing that?
Hey Martin, it does work for video files that are in MP4 containers. I haven't played with it for a long time, but in Rekordbox 5 an extra purchase was required to work with video. RB 5 could not have audio & video files in the same playlist. I'm not sure if that is fixed in RB 6.
@@soulscourer it can use 3/4 but 4/4 is the safest. In general dynamic grids and auto BPM (=grid) analysis don't go well together for any DJ software. Check out Algoriddim's djay Pro AI, it does miracles with grids.
You need to be on the latest versions of the app in order to make this work. To download the latest version of any ATGR app you have a license for follow this tutorial: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-02xsBOww-w4.html If the problem persists contact me over email or fb.me/atgrnl
@@MixMasterG thank you very much for your time to reply. I actually reverted to Big Sur, not just because o this, but because I found out my logic X did not work also.I will save your message if I do upgrade again. Many thanks, for more than this reason, cheers, Matt
@@mattsugai911Make sure you stay on the latest version (or try the Beta, the download link is in the DJCU message box, envelope icon at the top right hand corner of the DJCU opening screen)
What about editing tags, like if I have serato transferred to rekordbox already so same songs in both but now I edited me tags in serato Will this edit my tags in rekordbox?
Speaking of USB stick DJing and Windows. I have a The Pioneer XDJ Rx3. Now today I would like to go back to using a laptop and External drive. Wi-Fi Data Reliability can be just like a laptop that overheats etc. I bought the Rx3 cuz I thought I could use it both ways. Use the Rx3 with a external drive or the Rx3, in USB Standalone. So far I've used the laptop with an external drive, but I can only fit 2 terabytes of music in the Fat 32 format. I don't have the money to go Apple Mac. I'm not sure if I want to invest in putting all my music into Rekord box cloud. I'm also not sure about using virtual DJ. I had Traktor Pro 3. I left Traktor because all I heard about was how good Rekord box was. I play a huge variety of music and for many different age groups including seniors. If I could find a way use NTFS and have a 5, 7 TB External drive that would plug in like a USB with Windows 11 to my RX3... I'd be set. Here lately a lot of us have been looking at algorithm DJ now too. The beauty of this is you can use it with an IPad/IPhone. So now should I switch from Windows Android to Apple all together and DJ software/hardware? Ugh !! or Should I go with the good old standby Virtual DJ?
To avoid any limitations with external drives on Windows, you need to format them in either NTFS or exFAT, not FAT32. Formatting will wipe them, though, so make sure you have the data stored elsewhere first.
@@Mojaxx Yeah I know that I should have put that in my original comment sorry about that. That is/was my problem I don't like to use Fat 32 because it only allows for 2TB max in the old Fat 32 format.
Rekordbuddy broke my heart. during his abandonment of the project (that is, after taking our money) the developer decided to change the licensing to freeware but the link to the latest working installer was broken and all older versions stoped working. he then disappeared for weeks and despite me pleading with him on twitter, his own forums and email he completely ignored me (all I needed was a working link the the DMG...). i couldnt access my library for weeks and i had a bunch of gigs. F THAT GUY!
While i wish for an app like DJCU, it fails in many areas: - UX. You're going to deal with numerous steps on opening-closing DJCU app windows and other target/soruce app opening. - The code itself: It's basically a bundle of python script which is glued altogether, and it needs some extra toolset to run. For exemple i had to remove a lot of my M1 native CLI applications because DJCU was unable to work with them. (I'm a frontend developer as well, and my daily job relies on those stuffs) - UTF-8: You can forget your tracks in the conversion process which contains special unicode characters. If you're playing some vaporwave, witch house or hyperpop track, DJCU's not your stuff. - While DJCU advertise that it can convert to djay ios version, apparently that's another hack where you're just going to crack your head to the wall. Also, if you're a Denon DJ user, you have to purchase another bundle which will "help" you. And last but not least, happy arguing with Mixmaster G if something isn't working out of the box. :)
I agree that the UX isn't really as simple as would be ideal, I would have much preferred this video to be half the length it was. But... I still think the app is excellent value, and I like how Mixmaster G is always trying to tweak things and make them work better in the conversion process. So it's still a recommend from me - and an app which I use personally.
@@djestrela2 I wouldn't be warn against it if it would be mostly problem free. But that's not the case. And no, i won't be glad if I pay for something, and that's not work the way as advertises itself :D
Sure there can be some points to improve but also credit where credit is due. He is very helpful for free 121 which I have experienced. (Thank you MMG) plus every Tuesday he has free AMA sessions and as Mojaxx says, he is constantly tweaking and updating his software and it seems to work for most users on his channel. There are alternatives of course and each DJ can make their choice as to which they use plus listen to the voices of cool, calm experienced users. feedback
One of the most frequently asked questions is: when will there be a Windows version of any of my tools? My honest answer is: never. Not because I'm an OS snob, the reason is much simpler than that. The cause for most support questions I receive is not app, but operating system related. I simply lack the knowledge about Windows to support it as well as I can support macOS. I understand that having my tools on Windows would help many other artists and even multiply the revenue stream. With my resources being limited I've chosen to protect my good name when it comes to going the extra mile to support the users of my tools. I can't do that on Windows.
