My 2006 4.6 4x4 running great at 190k miles. Just keep vigilant on oil changes and maintenance. I have to keep it because newer cars are complete garbage. Great video

I got the last of the good kind on the new car market before everything went shitty in 2021 for a eco friendly vehicle, although 200K and still strong roaring V6 for my 2008.

I have a 2007 V8 Limited model with 315,000 miles. I have had every issue except for transmission problems (so far). Regular fluid changes are critical. I also cleaned the fuel injectors and replace their screens and put in new fuel filter(s). The leather seats are holding up so far.

The 2006-2010 V8 ford explorers had a better transmission. It is a 6 speed that is part of the infamously reliable 6R series transmissions. The 2002-2010 v6 explorer and 2002-2005 V8 explorers alike have the more commonly problematic 5r55 transmissions. You likely won’t have many issues with your transmission. Just keep the fluid checked/changed

My 2000 Explorer with the 4.0 had the same issue with the thermo housing. Replaced it and it was fine. Did the job myself and wasn’t too bad to do.

My daily driver is a 2008 explorer XLT 4.0 V6. I purchased it in 2014 with around 50K miles on it. I am currently at 201K miles original engine & transmission. I replaced the thermostat housing with an all-aluminum version, and I swapped out the transmission servos with modified O-ring servos from AJ1E servo bore fix. The 5R55S transmissions are garbage but after I swapped those in it has shifted like butter.

I have a 2008 Ford Explorer Sport-Trac, and have had every issue noted. TWO transmissions, TWO thermostat housings, wheel bearings on the passenger side. But, I still really like it. The interior leather has not held up, as I would;ve expected, so I will need seat covers. I currently have 190K miles on it. Since I just replaced the tranny, I plan to keep it for a few more years. I have a 2022 Ford Edge Titanium that we also drive around.

You can reduce thermostat housing issues and radiator issues by using a common trick I read on a forum. Use a lower rated radiator cap. Get a 16lb radiator cap instead of the 20 the car comes with. To get the part ask for one for the previous generation, I just say 99 explorer. It's not much but it takes a lot of strain off the plastic cooling components. Haven't had a radiator get a leak since I did that and the thermostat housing leaks are minor giving you a warning. Thermostat housing is really 30 min or less, Dorman makes a metal housing. Other coolant areas to watch for are the heater valve and the plastic tee to the heater valve/core. Heater valves are cheap and easy to replace. The tee is harder to replace if you do it properly because you have to replace all the hoses attached to it at their source. If you don't do it properly, it's easy and more reliable. Get a 3/4 brass barbed tee and three hose clamps from a hardware store. Remove the crumbling plastic tee, cut the plastic crimps, yank it out and whatever is left crunch up with pliers in the hose and remove pieces. Insert the brass tee and use the hose clamps on it. Also I think its a Ford thing in general but a part of your PCM can fry. Area that powers the EGR, the four oxygen sensor heaters, and a purge valve fries and you get six codes pop up at once. Had that area of the PCM repaired, it's not too expensive. Takes about 15 minutes to get it out, shop I took the PCM to had it repaired in less than a day. I also changed the oxygen sensors since those might have put a strain on the PCM and you're supposed to do them at about 100k, mine had 130k and weren't as responsive at they should have been. Bosch makes the sensors for Ford so I got Bosch sensors at about $25 each from RockAuto, doing okay so far. My transmission went out super early at 80k but my local shop rebuilt it for half what the dealer quoted, in a third of the time and they said they used a kit with upgraded components to address the common failure points. I'm at 150k and the transmission shifts better than it did new.

That's easy to replace but I have never needed to replace I have owned tones of explorers and the main thing that goes bad is the mass airflow sensor that's the most common thing

I have an 2008 2wd Explorer Eddie Bauer (V6) with 190k. I do love this car but theree are some red flags about it. I cant accelerate past 3k rpm or the traction control and abs light come on with a "service rsc now" warning on the dash as well (ive only just found out what that is).The transmission shifts hard sometimes and whenever Im pushing the gas halfway down the car doesnt accelerate. I have to let go of the gas, give it some throttle and then it finally accelerates. Once i have some time on my hands again, im gonna take it to a mechanic to get it checked out. But other than that the thing runs fine
