Most people buy a particular bike because of the pack mentality of peer pressure and public image. Apart from scooter type bikes, It takes real guts to buy "a real bike" you actually like.

saibabax They also put massive stress on it. Even the best looked after parts get worn and that happens real fast if you race.

Dire Squirrel I thought so myself when i was younger but in my experience with bikes (17+ years) ive come to find that inexperienced riders put more stress on he bikes cause they do more stupid shit and simply dont care... People who race care about every screw on the bike and will never allow the bike to be any less then borderline perfect cause their life is on the line.... But hey, to each his own... If you think you know better follow your conviction :)

saibabax No matter how much someone care for it, it still gets worn. And no one is going to completely rebuild or swap a engine that has spent a few years being pushed hard, just to sell it. Every single mile is wear and the harder that mile is, the more it wears on all components. As soon as a bike has been raced, it drops massively in value. Which is why you can buy 1-2 year old race bikes for next to nothing. It's for the same reason the a bike that has done 100K miles is worth less than an identical bike that has done 50K miles.

Dire Squirrel NOT TRUE. When i was 15 i was ranked second in my category (125cc) nation wide... My bike had been rebuilt 3 times, from scratch.... (And yes that means everything engine, suspension, rims...) The bike i used to race with Aprillia RS125 (i dont anymore for like 10 years now) WAS Better then any other 125cc bike for sale at the time in my country... It was in perfect condition... Meanwhile all of my generation wannabes and "coold kidz" that had bikes trashed them around, didnt even bother oiling the damn chain couldnt hold a candle to my baby... So please, u dont know what you are talkin about... A bike having been raced has little to do with the condition of the bike, WHO OWNS it has everything to do with it...
