That's not helping the chair....🤣 Still, I'm exited to see what you bought. 💖

I'm so excited to share! Haha I think all but a handful were books I've already read or ones I'm replacing damaged copies with, so I'm not making my problem worse on the non-read side of my library. I actually have a bit of room to grow in my read section for now!! (not for long...). But the spending... omg the spending. I have to start over as far as saving for the chair goes lmao.

That's great Niki, I'll be interested to see what you picked up. Maybe I need to make a trip to Utah. I don't know of anywhere in this area with so many used bookstores in any sort of reasonable vicinity of each other. In fact there is only one that I know of that is less than an hour's drive from where I live, and that one is very small and only sells paperbacks. The only times that I stop at any others are when I'm traveling out of town, I have some time to spare, and there is a store not too far out of the way. Never more than 2 or 3 during a trip though. I'm glad that you got to visit so many interesting ones! It is always fun to look around used bookstores, you never know what you'll discover!

Compared to the Seattle area and even podunk towns in Oregon, the Utah ones were actually kind of sad when it came to the scifi/fantasy stuff. I guess I need to count myself lucky that we even have that much though, by the sound of it! I did have one locally for a while but they went out of business (and didn't really have a ton). But at least they had hardcovers. I thought hard about opening one for a while but realized I'm still recovering from being in retail for so long and my life deserves more than that lol.

@@TheObsessiveBookseller I'm sure that it can be great in many respects to own a small business in something that you're passionate about. On the other hand, being a small business owner in general can be very challenging and uncertain, especially in the first years. On top of that, the pandemic has really made it rough on small business owners. So it is quite possible that you made the right decision there, for your financial well-being anyway. And it could always be an option in the future, if you ever decide the time is right, provided that the market for books doesn't dry up completely.

@@johnnyp2002qq Owning my own bookshop was the goal from a young age, but my ambitions have changed quite a bit since then. It's a hard type of retail to get into - so many options for people to get books. Atm it does feel like the right call to let it be. Who knows though. I could hit retirement, have the space, and goodness knows, the inventory. Then all bets are off lol.

@@TheObsessiveBookseller It's nice to have options. By the time you retire, I should be well into my "store until retirement" reading, so I'll bring them all over and add them to your inventory. :-)

This was so much fun! I love going to used bookstores, and I haven’t been to SLC in a while. I’m with you on WoT. I DNFd the series indefinitely, and will read it someday, but $2500 is overkill no matter how popular they are haha.
@TheObsessiveBookseller

Thank you!! Yes, it was astronomical. I made me wish I hadn't donated later hardcovers in the series once I figured out I didn't like it haha.

I went down to south Florida over holiday break last year and went to a few used book shops, and every thriller and mystery section was larger than the sci fi fantasy sections 😂
@TheObsessiveBookseller
@TheObsessiveBookseller 2 года назад
haha my first thought was, "well, I guess that speaks to the overall demographic of Florida." Which is based totally on those jokes of it being a retirement state. While bookselling it struck me how much the older crowd loved a good mystery... Does that mean there were awesome things waiting for you in the tiny scifi fantasy sections?!

@@TheObsessiveBookseller Ya that’s what I gathered about Florida’s population too😆.Thankfully I got out of Florida with a good haul. Highlights from the trip include finding some old 1950s era galaxy press sci-fi novels at an antique shop, including Asimov’s pebble in the sky and Jack Williamson’s The humanoids. I also found a first edition paperback of Royal Assassin, a First edition hardcover of Clive barkers Everville, and a beautiful paperback copy of Neverwhere.

Niki loved the video. I enjoy seeing all these bookshops. It’s funny I get emails from Wellers all the time called shelf awareness. I wish there were as many of these shops in my area, some I have been to were cherry picked as well. Seems like you did ok, and of course keeping all the titles from us, great cliffhanger, Lol. One other question was the Jordan set all first editions?
@TheObsessiveBookseller
@TheObsessiveBookseller 2 года назад
Haha thanks! Most of my success was with the one shop, but they sure made it worth my while. For the most part everything was either paperback only or really sparse. Even so, all it takes is one book... I didn't think to check, but I'm assuming they were first editions. They'd better be for that price tag, is all I'm sayin.
