In this video, we test start the used 6.0 that we installed for the first time. It's a nerve-wracking moment for any technician, as there's always the possibility that something could go wrong. But with the right knowledge and tools, starting a used engine for the first time can be a relatively simple process.
We begin by performing a thorough pre-start inspection, checking all of the connections, hoses, and other critical components to make sure everything is in place and functioning properly. Next, we add fresh oil and connect the battery jump box, since this truck does not have good batteries we have to supplement with a jump box and a battery charger.
Finally, it's time for the moment of truth: we turn the key and see what happens, after a few start then stalls the engine starts up and runs.
We let the engine run for a few minutes to make sure everything is functioning properly, and we test what we can before it overheats from not having coolant in it.
Getting this Engine to start is a huge relief and a moment of triumph as this engine was a gamble.
