I bought a used BMW i3 and after three years it feels like one of the best buying decisions I ever made. I would have lost 5k on market value when I would sell it now. At the same time I saved roughly 4k on fuel costs (including the price for electricity). I never drove more comfortably and with such low costs before.

@@umka7536 ahaha I can drift okay, all my cars were rwd, one of them was an actual drift car. I was considering an i3 at some point. The thing is as fun as a miata. Will you tell me that I "don't drive" as well?

Oil company propaganda. EVs save you a tonne of money over time on running costs. The video suggests all ageing is suffered by EV’s and miraculously Fossil cars don’t age or depreciate at all. I’ve had EVs for the last 4 years. I will never go back. EVs are faster in the real world, more fun to drive with the instant torque. Apparently not mentioning the 30k spent on petrol over 100,000 miles in a fossil car is just an oversight. You could literally buy an EV for less than the petrol cost alone of running a fossil fuel car for 100,000 miles. There is a group of people and businesses that would rather destroy the environment and keep people breathing dangerous levels of pollution just so they can continue to make billions! And they know damn well how polluting they are. People used to say cars were madness and horses were better, this is the same thing. They want to keep the old status quo and ignore all the downsides. Do the research and get the facts, not the opinions of people supporting a harmful 100 year old technology. Did you know that the petrol engine, after over 100 years evolution is still only 35% efficient? Diesel 55%, 🎉electric over 80% in just a tenth of that time.

I agree, all I hear in this video is "bbbbut the battery".. "bbbut the deprecation.." Sure, EVs have deprecated quite a bit during the last couple of years, but the deprecation is so rapid because during the pandemic EV prices were actually going UP! So of course they need to drop at some point. And, sure, new EVs are getting cheaper and better more quickly than ICEs, so the old EV aren't as attractive - but that's a GOOD thing for buyers in the second hand market. 90 ah bmw i3 is a steal now if you need a city car, 12 grand for the most reliable BMW ever built, and it will never rust. The batteries hold up allright too. How often do you see an ICE with 300k miles on it? For EVs running past 300k miles is no big deal - and that's just the start, newer battery types like LFP are going to double that. I've owned quite a few ICEs that are comparable to tesla model 3 or model S - fast and interesting cars. Most of them were past the bottom of the deprecation curve and actually appreciating in value. However, the costs of fixing and maintaining them were prohibitive, mostly because previous owners did not spend enough money and time maintaining them. I know what it's like to spend ten grand on a car and still have a broken POS on your hands. I know what's it like to wait for 3 months for your car to be fixed, only to find out later you've been lied to and nothing was actually fixed. There are plenty of companies nowadays that know how to maintain and fix EVs - and I have the impression these companies are quite a bit more honest. There's plenty of information on which used EVs are a good buy and which ones best to stay away from. Therefore all these blanket statements are moot, and do indeed sound like oil mafia propaganda.

All these so called EV experts seem to know absolutely nothing but how to pander to those fearful of EV's...how sad. We have saved $4000 per year on fuel and servicing since buying our EV. All these facts just anger these people. I think it's FOMO, fear of missing out that drives them to repeat all the factually incorrect nonsense.

@restonthewind
@restonthewind Месяц назад
@@SDcharge2k12 Yes. I pay 12 cents per kilowatt-hour which is less than a quarter of the cost per mile of pumping gas for a comparable ICE vehicle, specifically for the Mazda 3 I drove before I bought the Bolt. At most public, fast chargers, the cost of electricity is roughly the same as the cost of pumping gas, but I charge at home most of the time.

The counter ev arguments are mute. Most cost and variable are the same for gasoline engines. Diagnostics, replacement costs, if engines are virtually identical. Special tools and😊specialized Diagnostics for problems. Modules controlling most everything from engine start parameters to hvac and comfort features. All require a trip to most dealers in order to properly diagnose and repair. Example. Change a battery on your 2010 or above ICE vehicle. Dealers need to program the ECU to recognize the new battery to the alternator in order to not overcharge that battery. A lot of this argument is more like the crap they pulled when the 1st taxis were electric in the earlier days the automobile. Let's be real. Each has its merits and disadvantages . Like dating, try many vehicles and types of propulsion. Then stick with the one that makes you feel most comfortable.

@werewalkinghere
@werewalkinghere Месяц назад
@@samsonacc8081 "Cluelessness" is a "disease"? Thank you for educating us, Mister Doctor! Can we have some actual arguments that are not based on logical fallacies? I've never owned an EV. But I did plenty of research. I know which used EVs are a good buy, which ones are money pits, and which ones are simply bad cars that will die no matter what and will not be economically feasible to repair. Same with ICEs, each model and even year/month of production has a unique set of advantages and disadvantages. Running an out of warranty 2013 Tesla model S for sure will be more expensive than running a new ICE fiat. But running a late 2021 tesla model 3 will be WAY WAY cheaper than running a ten year old jaguar XF with a supercharged v8. Let's compare apples to apples, what do you think? Care to share an example of a calculation that shows how EVs are "more expensive" in the long run? Here's mine. I currently run a 20 year old diesel bimmer. It costs me probably 4-5k euro a year altogether, and I'm sure that it will increase. Insurance + motor tax alone is 2k per year. Previously I had a Jaguar xf, supercharged v8. It would cost me 6-7k per year just to insure it and pay the motor tax, then another 5-6k if not more per year to keep it running. It's a bad car. If I were to buy a late 2021 tesla 3 sr+ I'd be paying 30 euro per month for insurance, and it would still be within warranty. Sure, I'd probably lose 4k a year in market value but it's comparable to what it costs me to keep the bimmer running - and I'd be driving a newer faster car that costs peanuts to maintain and charge. Also it's not like ICE vehicles keep their original value. They might deprecate less than EVs right now but again we need to look into specific examples and adequately evaluate all the costs. So, yeah, please tell me how electric cars are more expensive? New tesla model S plaid dropped from 140k to 110k USD in a short time? Yeah, I know. It sucks for buyers. Noone REALLY needs a new plaid, you're paying the rich tax. And it's not like the price of used ones can stay above 100k when the new one from factory is 110k. Of course they will deprecate Back in 2000s, computers were also deprecating really quickly - that's the deal with new tech. Also, look up new jaguar deprecation, not as bad as tesla S plaid but also quite ridiculous. Curious to hear your examples, doctor.

I'm curious about why every EV owner I talk to never gives me an objective appraisal. Everything about EVs is fantastic. No drawbacks whatsoever. Almost an ideological rant. Hybrids, I totally get - switching to electric in the city improves the air quality, and it's a logical compromise for people who can't charge at home. If EVs were that good, everyone would want one. The market will decide.
@werewalkinghere
@werewalkinghere Месяц назад
Not an EV owner. But. There's plenty of info if you do the research. For example, if you buy a model S rwd or Performance made before 2020 or so, it will have a drive unit that will eventually start leaking coolant. And there are very few people that can fix these drive units, with the chances of fixing the thing falling lower and lower the longer you allow the coolant to seep into the unit. The original motors last up to 800k km but refurbished ones only 50 to 100k. There are companies that know how to fix common issues that occur in specific tesla batteries, there are smaller issues at 150-300k km and more difficult issues at 500k. And it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Certain EVs are not worth it at all like older renaults and whatnot, poor battery and drive unit cooling. Bmw i3 drive units are also not cooled very well so unlikely to last past certain mileage. The question is too broad. Ask about disadvantages of specific models. 2018 tesla S AWD non-performance is a good buy, it doesn't have the problematic drive unit. It will eat tires though since it has camber from the factory, and lots of torque. In other words suspension goes bad. It's a big fast car with high-ish maintenance costs, if you've ever owned a huge heavy supercharged v8 you'd know. Tesla model 3 SR+ August to December 2021 is a good buy, LFP battery + more powerful engine than 2022. The only thing I'd worry about is rust but that's not an EV specific issue. Volkswagen e-golf is an alright buy, possibly also e-up and it costs peanuts now - but I'm not interested in dated FWD EVs. Also not interested in outdated battery tech. VW id.3 can be drifted but I've heard complaints of battery degradation, also it's a VW so it will rust and fall apart at some point.

All this information about used EV cars being unprofitable and art problems is a lie. I already have 3 used electric cars and none of them have had any problems - neither with the car nor with the batteries. All were tested and even for a 2017 car with a mileage of 145,000 km, the condition of the battery is 100%. It is much safer to buy electric cars than internal combustion ones.
@DrBernon
@DrBernon Месяц назад
I have never had an electric car, but as a driver of a 2nd hand petrol car, I have the feeling that you are right. I do my own service, so it is very cheap to maintain, but I have spent a ton of time replacing worn off parts. But the engine is worn out and gets worse power and fuel efficiency, and rebuilding an engine is almost as expensive as replacing the battery of an electric car, and I'm not willing to do such a massive job to a car that I need operational every day. So I just drive it like that. I hope my next car can be electric and enjoy my time not covered in oil trying to fix that thing.
