I really enjoy this new style of video. I think it would be beneficial, down the line, if you did more comparisons. Just to get any idea of what is the current state of the competitor's used market.
Great idea Matt! I have owned a 2012 Hyundai Genesis and a 2018 Genesis G90 and are great value for what you get. I love the powerful V6 both have and rear wheel drive makes them a sporty car.
This could be a fun series because it keeps us in the loop of how the market is and shows us what fun cars are out there for a good price without having to do research thanks for doing the leg work Matt very helpful 🙌🏻 keep them coming!
The average price of a new car is $46K is kinda misleading. It doesn't mean that everyone is buying $46000 cars. Because everywhere I look I don't see any of these $46000 cars that everyone's supposed to be buying. That $46000 number means the average price for each manufacturers car fleet. It includes Ferrari's and other $500K cars in the calculations. The $46k is a useless stat.
I leased a Genesis HTRAC v6 fully loaded before they changed the name to G80. Good car, never had a problem. Their depreciation rates are astounding however. Same goes for the G90.
This reminds me of the 2017-2019 Alfa Romeo Giulia on the used market pre-pandemic. They were going for under $20k as dealership buybacks. Now they are closer to $30k from the last time I looked them up.
Lots of car youtubers bought showy 911 turbo S's, Mclaren's, etc. but many are dropping so fast in value. They are now trying to sell them back a same price they bought them for and cannot. Good for us on the sidelines with hard, cold cash to pick them up at seriously discounted prices!
Salute Matt! These are great cars I’ve had mine for a year. 3.8 awd with all the options, they’re great cars low maintenance and they don’t require premium fuel. Plus you won’t see a bunch of them on the road
Yep. Bought mine right b4 COVID and the only issue so far is the backup cam stopped working. Loved that they gave free map updates with Android Auto/Carplay. I bought one of those Motorola modules from Amazon and now it's wireless.
Love these type of videos and these types of deals. Those looked like local dealers too. I try those type of searches down here in NE Florida on Cars/Autotrader and most of them come up as Carvana which i'm not going to risk at this point.
Seems like a really good deal! its probably just because most regular people these days don't buy sedans. I literally met someone who thought all sedans are from the 70s and they thought suvs are the "new thing". Sometimes its nice when people who know nothing about cars dictate car prices lol.
I’m the original owner of my 2018 Genesis G80 Sport 3.3T AWD (365HP). I just topped 30K miles. My jaw dropped seeing your video because I’m sad to see how their value has changed. I’ll say I LOVE this vehicle! Absolute pleasure to drive and it still takes off like a shot! I like to think mine might have a higher value because it is fully loaded, black with blacked out windows save for the windshield. It looks absolutely menacing! I call it The Catmobile! 🐈⬛ Matt, you’ve always done a great job on your channel. My fav video is still the DeLorean Time Machine!
Thanks for sharing your experience with your G80, and thank you for the kind words! I'm glad you like the channel and enjoyed the DeLorean video, that one was so much fun to make!
I own a 2018 Genesis G80, 3.8L engine. This is my "dream car" because for me the styling is beautiful, and the engine provides all the power anyone would ever really need. In fact at 70 mph on the highway I get 30+ mpg! The AWD performs well, and the car has 4 drive modes! A very comfortable car to drive with excellent interior space and features. If you can find one in your price range you would be foolish not to buy it!!
The problem is the list price can be anywhere from 5k - 10k lower than the purchase price before taxes and registration fees the way dealers add stuff on when you actually go to buy the car.
Really happy to see more videos in general! Really hope it helps bring in the views! I’ll be waiting for your market report on R53 Minis which will hopefully help some more people remember to actually list them! It’s been a long look for a clean one lol.
Thanks! Sadly it doesn't seem like there's much interest in R53s. When I posted my review of one in 2020 it didn't get many views. I am considering covering the current gen Coopers though, they are really cheap too and seem to be more reliable than the prior gens.
@@MattMaranMotoring It is sad. They are such awesome little cars. Such a raw feeling and still so affordable if you can find one. With a few small mods, they sound so amazing being revved out. A much cheaper way to hear supercharger whine than a Demon! I'm a fan of all two door mini coopers, even the new ones. I haven't driven one yet but would watch that video anyway!
I'm looking into getting a G80 Ultimate 5.0L for around 30k from carmax. I had to pay to have the car transferred before I signed the papers. This is my dream car and I'm finally getting one soon, hopefully!
Great video idea, Matt! As a suggestion, does it make sense in future to have viewers request a particular used car in their state and then you do the video on that? I’m from Australia so dunno if that makes sense, but just thinking how big/diverse the US is.
Pricing does vary a little by state but even with the size of the U.S. shipping a car isn't too bad if you can't make the road trip and the deal is good enough.
I'd love to see a comparison between the 5th gen 4runner and the Lexus GX460 (2010 - 2023) on the used market. When I was cross shopping 5th gen 4runners & GX460's, I noticed you can barely find decent 5th gens around $20k but you can find GX460's around $20k all day and they come with way more features & capability as standard (KDSS, full-time awd, center locker, low range, V8, heated & cooled front seats, power third row, etc. etc.) Love these videos Matt!
I think that gx460 prices have risen, since more people know about the vehicle's capability. Also, gx prices will probably go up even more, since it is the last v8 prado. 4runner prices will probably go down a bit since they made so many of them
@@MattMaranMotoring I hope this helps! Forgot to mention that both cars are on the same platform so there are a lot of aftermarket & OEM 4runner parts that will bolt directly onto the GX (wheels, running boards, etc.)
Every time one of these “used car bargain” or “best cheap performance car” videos get popular, the prices jump for the cars talked about in the video, often due to car flippers/wholesalers jumping on the opportunity, buying a bunch, and raising their prices to manipulate the market. I’d much prefer videos about how to find the bargains on our own, rather than spotlighting specific models.
Maybe these will get more popular in the future, but right now I think the views are low enough and my channel is small enough that I don't think it'll really influence the market.
Genesis sedans are a steal for sure, but given that i'm a person who prefers the most performance i can get out of a vehicle, i'd only really go with the 5.0 or 3.3t..2.5t's are out of question tho since i usually will add an afttermarket exhaust system...i own a 5.0 rspec as of now..i did own a 3.8 coupe, and it was a very solid engine for the vehicles weight, but those 2015+ genesis sedans and g80's with the v6 are close to 4200 pounds and i feel as if the 5.0's or 3.3t's are more ideal speaking in terms of getting those huge boats off the line...still tho, a fully loaded, 3-6 year old v6 luxury sedan for just 18k is a major steal....with most hondas and toyota's, you'll either have to step down 8 years + HIGH MILEAGE for a v6 trim if 18k is all you plan on spending and for vehicles less than 4 years old, the best you'll get is a standard 4 banger with a cvt transmission, no sunroof, and pretty much standard everything...alot of car for a small price ...
These have big costly fixes out of warranty. Starters need the coolant lines removed to access, and they go out by 80k miles sometimes. ECM's kick out too which is weird. Hyundai has them back ordered. There's a reason there's so many for so cheap when they were $50k cars.
I really like this video segment you created! The way the algorithm is working right I would include these words in your title: "used car market" which will further the reach of this video to a new audience for your channel. Keep up the good content!
@@MattMaranMotoring Yep, perfect! As long as it's in your title and/or your first sentence in your video description, you should be good. And by the looks of it this video isn't doing half bad either! Congrats 🎉
This so funny you did this video, I was just looking at this same exact car on Facebook market near me hoping to get a good private deal because like you said it's awesome value!
My family has a 2016 Genesis G80. Great car with the V6. Turned it in for a G70 a few years down the line. I think my parents both preferred the G80 for how much smoother it drove.
These prices aren't far off of where they were in late 2019/early 2020 for the older cars. It just goes to show how messed up the market was. Back in early 2020 you could get a 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate with average miles for under $25k. I know this because we traded one in early summer of 2019 on a G70. It's nice to see the older ones well into the teens but had everything not been messed up for the past 2 years, an average 8 year old Genesis would be worth $15k retail on a good day. 😂
Another great candid video, Matt! I had no idea these things were that cheap used. Maybe I should trade in my current car for one of these and then wait another year for the GV60 and Ioniq 5N/6 to come to Ohio...
Wait another 6-12 months, I have a feeling those will be well into the $20's with lower miles. Under normal depreciation levels, they would have been in that range by now.
I like these kind of videos. Similar format to “The Ben Hardy Show” but that channel is filled with Clickbait and no evidence for any of his “breaking news”. Keep it up Matt!
I leased a 2015 Hyundai Genesis AWD 3.8 because the deal was so unbelievably cheap for a nice luxury car and remember how great it was. I love them but I then got a smaller car.
Its the reliability that's in question because another great deal in the same mind set that you can often find even cheaper is the Kia Cadenza and K900, you can often find them well under priced aswell. But Unless you can get them low miles and under warranty you can run into some major issues long term with them.
Yes Matt!! This is a great series to do and it’ll help out the community to find good deals and dealers! Also I want to thank whoever gifted me with membership, amazing and I’m so grateful and I’d like to pay it forward one day when I can :)
There's a dealer near me that only sells luxury vehicles that have structural damage and no reported accidents on their reports. They are well known at auto auctions. Selecting no accident filter is pointless because most don't get reported. I personally sold a wrecked vehicle to Carvana, and they sold it. They only sell cars with "no accidents."
Definitely true, but it at least helps filter out the ones that do have reported accidents. Like any car purchase, you still have to do a good inspection of it and make sure what you're getting is good, regardless of what price or condition it's in.
This is hilarious because I've noticed the same thing. Waiting to finally get our allocation for a new Sienna and once that happens I've got my eye on a G80 3.3T Sport
Not sure what goes into depreciation exactly but I'm sure "perception" goes into it and your RU-vid "urinalists" play into it, as well as the mainstream "experts" as well🤔🙄 Smart money here, same with the G90's❗️❗️
@@klasseact6663 I think it's desirability and maintenance cost. Like BMWs depreciation is crazy because they are supposedly extremely expensive to maintain post warranty. I'm not sure if this applies to Genesis.
Pre face-lift they were painfully generic. Well featured though (even rear power sunshade) and reliable and only needing regular gas. I'd get one if a Lexus isn't available.
Great video. Was curious and looked at it's comp. I found 2017- 2019 model yr. 3.6 liter Cadillac CTS' with under 40k miles and no accidents for around 23 to 25k.
Good eye! It is indeed! Fun fact, the camera for this video was on a mini tripod that was sitting on top of my restored 1940s Montgomery Wards Airline radio if you're into 40s stuff haha.
@@MattMaranMotoring I've restored a bunch of 302G's over the years - a by-product of working for a Regional Bell Operating Company for 30 years and my dad pack-rating a bunch of them when he worked for Ma Bell also. PM me if you ever need parts or service on it. Also, my 40's stuff is bigger than your '40's stuff - a 1942 Ford GPW military jeep and a 1947 International KB-1 pickup. Time will tell if a Genesis - or our S550 Mustangs - is as easy to fix as a 302G phone...but I wouldn't bet on it...
@@bmitchellc That's awesome! And I appreciate the offer! We don't have a landline anymore so the phone is just decorative these days but it worked years ago at my old house and was fun to use.
Fantastic deals! I bought an off-lease 2019 G80 Sport in 2022 for about $35k and love it. Only bad thing is the gas mileage in the city (17 mpg) but this works well as 2nd vehicle for mostly highway drives. Also, works with OpenPilot for handsfree driving.
My brother has an older one with 415000 kilometers and still amazing condition and drinking great. I want a lexus es 350 myself but for like the same year the prices are like double
Why would you take a used car to an official dealer? It's out of warranty so just go to your local mechanic. In Europe we do this where Mercedes, BMW, Audi are what Lexus is in the US.
I love genesis but like all brands except Toyotas if you see a used different brand car at a Toyota dealership don’t buy it, just a personal opinion and I’m sorry if this comment has nothing to do with the video, also keep up the good work Matt
Always liked the G80. Tremendous value. Kinda makes you think a little about buying a new one with such a heavy depreciation hit. Guess it boils down to name recognition. Like the new video content. Thx Matt.
I drove one for a year! I got a 2015 V8 Ultimate in 2020 and sold it last year. Bought it at 96,000kms (~60,000 miles) for $20,500 CAD. I miss that car every day.
@@CubanBeastt It was really carry over power trains with minor tweaks from the previous generation. I never saw any huge issues with the first model year cars. The first year of the TAU (2012) had some oil consumption issues but that wasn't that prevalent by 2015.
The 3.8s we're always super cheap. I think it's because no one wants such an underpowered engine in that car. I test drove one and it was a turd. When I bought my G70 years ago, I also tested a G80. The G80 was used with 18k miles and had a 3.8L and it was going for $26k. The G70 was new and had the 2.0t for $36k. The G80 was significantly more equipped than the G70.
