Firstly, Ill fess up and say that this is my car that was reviewed. Always a little scary when your being judged; however this was a pretty spot on and an independent review. great work ReDriven and a pleasure meeting up with you guys. Keep up the great work. Ill even let you guys review my Porsche, when I get one.

While Toyota, Mazda and Lexus are probably better than the Santa Fe I'd say a Santa Fe is probably more reliable and cheaper to maintain than its European or American counterparts. The safety overview made me think it was going to transition into a South Korea cartoon lol 😂 Didn't expect this to be the review for today's video but it was still in the same geographical region as the one I thought it might of been Good work as always gents and as always have a good weekend and look forward to next week's videos with gusto 👍

My 2016 turbo diesel is a lemon.... Transmission failed at 4 years and 80000km... Replaced under warranty. Turbo failed at 5.5 years and 120000 out of warranty cost $2500 to replace. My rear diff has now just exploded, cracked the whole transfer case... It's less than 200k on the clock and not quite 8 years old. This will be $3500 repair with a second hand unit. We never even take out off road, just standard driving. Last Hyundai I'll ever get

Bought a 2014 2.2l diesel highlander in 2019 with 155k km on the clock. Now on 215k km. Great cars. Only thing that happened was the AC evaporator broke which required a $1500 repair (due to paying dealer price parts as Covid had shortage of generics). Other than that it’s been standard $200-300 services. They do exactly as you want then to. They are not a proper 4x4 SUV like a prado, but do 99% of yet job in waaaay more comfort for most people’s everyday driving. I’ll drive mine as the family car til it dies, which will hopefully be for many more years.

Alrighty we've owned this car from new 2016 facelift Highlander, replaced with the current Sorrento but it's still in the family and have now done closing in on 290k. Things that has went wrong but was warranty with zero fuss by the dealer. Sunroof struggled to close because we barely used it and it was replaced. Driver seat wasn't sliding forward. EPB failure. Also the diesel were never fitted with DPF which is awesome. The sticker at the top of the engine cover stated this. Overall it's a great car and still is. I don't like driving it personally but it's the Mrs car so if she likes it, it is what it is. The Santa Fe had an easy life with our family of 3 plus a dog. Always garaged,serviced,driven sensibly,checked over on a weekly basis.

The splines on the gearbox to transfer box will disappear as they are not lubricated in any way. Then you’ll have a 2wd Santa Fe unless you want to pay thousands to fix (every 40k miles. Major fault with these.

Mechanic here who also owns the kia equivalent sorrento in 3.3 v6 2017 form. Only 2wd in v6 form so quick take-offs end in a bit of wheel spin followed by the traction control cutting the power which can get annoying but otherwise she's a good thing. Boring to drive but as Adam said it's a family mover. The v6 will drink up to 15L per 100kms around town but will do 9L down the highway. Ours barely uses any oil. Personally the kia sorento UM series is a better looking and buy than this Santa fe equivalent

I recently replaced my old Nissan Navara with a 2018 Santa Fe Active 2.2L diesel. I'm loving it. It's a great daily commute to work and when the seats are folded down there's heaps of space to pack my camping gear in. It also tows my forward fold camper trailer really well. There's a slight rattle in the left front door speaker which I'll check out one day. And I thank you for the reminder to check the oil more frequently than I do. It's still under 70000km so still looks and drives like new.

2016 owner here. It's a pretty solid family wagon, the 2.2 TD has heaps of poke but the suspension is average at best. Compared with my 2006 Subie Forester, it hates corners and speed bumps will put rear seat passengers head into the roof at speeds that the Foz doesn't notice. Real complaints wise, the turbo actuator went bad with only 32k's on the clock and stranded us a long way from home so that was a few thousand $ to fix and get home from. Being on Subaru and Hyundai owners forums, I see far far fewer complaints in Subie-land.

We were adding a quart of oil every 700 miles before the emission sensors caused the car to go into safe mode and was no longer drive able. This required replacement of the cadalitic converter and engine rings. The car only had 95K miles. I would never purchase a Hyundai again because of their extremely poor manufacturing quality. You should have discussed the implications of driving a car that is consuming significant amounts of oil to the environment.

There appears to be a few manufacturers with high oil consumption. I read somewhere that there was a move that piston rings could have their tension reduced to improve fuel economy. But the downside of this is that the rings fail and increase oil consumption in engines that were turbo charged. Another great video.

Just bought a late 2016 highlander full fruit for $18k. Yeah it’s got 223000 on the clock but the service history is a map of the lap of the wide brown land. This car is faultless. Everything works as it should, the interior is unmarked, leather still soft and it drives like new. Full compliments to its previous, and first, owner. Looked at other options but I found the Toyotas a bit soulless in comparison and I refuse to pay the Toyota tax. My in-laws bought a 2018 Rav 4 a few months ago and it was $42k. That’s a lot of fuel. Would I recommend it? Absolutely just be sure to have it checked out by a reputable mechanic and look for the recall completion stickers inside the drivers door. In the diesel, check the service history. Service intervals are 15 000kms and they must be done on time. This is far more important in a diesel than a petrol. If the service history is sketchy, look at another one.

I bought a 'certified pre-owned' one from my local Hyundai dealer about 3 years ago. 2017 sport, 2.4L,140k km. Unfortunately, it had the oil-burning problem which did lead to an engine failure. I had to wait 3+ months to have my engine replaced. The engine replacement was free because of some lawsuit settlement. But (I think) the dealer broke my starter and something in the transmission during the engine replacement and costed me 3000 cads to fix..... Well, if you own one, do check your engine oil frequently. And if you find it is burning oil, check online, you might be eligible for a free engine replacement.

2017 V6 Active X with now 247,000km. Was rather in laws car all country miles full history. I charge the oil every 6 months and mechanic goes over it every year. Full dealer history. 2017 was the sweet spot because it got all the upgraded safety. Adaptive cruise is brilliant. Android auto is handy to. Was getting serviced every 3 months because of the amount of miles it was covering. Zero issues. No oil consumption. Been to Adelaide twice with us, Sydney and all over Victoria. Averages 8's on the highway. A good solid wash, proper detail, chassis and engine wasj, polish and ceramic coating and it's been brilliant. Not used much now but we love it and zero plans to sell.

@allseeing357 6 месяцев назад
Actually a brilliant car. We bought a late pre-facelift 2015 CRDi Premium SE privately, as we wanted a decent 7 seat SUV for family duties and it appeared v good value for money. Got lucky as in the UK that year, the Premium SE came with a load more standard kit than the earlier cars (which were already loaded).....some of it like ventilated seats don't get used very much but nice to have still! It's done a few miles and whilst cared for by it's previous owners it's been well used and have to say it's stood up well to it. We've had it a bit over a year and other than having to have the radiator replaced due to it failing it hasn't really put a foot wrong since weve had it, though it is rather maintained by us money no object (is serviced at our local Hyundai dealer - servicing is fixed price and actually v cheap). The only criticism I can really level at it is that genuine parts can be very pricey. If you have one with the smart key, try desperately not to lose one as to replace they are ££££££! They drive great, not the sharpest handling thing but on good sports summer tyres they grip for days, and do ride very well (if a little floaty for those in the back!). Auto box is good and tends to always be in the right gear, and does a good job of slurring the shifts and making the most of the torque. Also not a slow car, has plenty of go for something of this nature. Otherwise v comfortable, silly amount of standard kit, brilliant sound system, pan roof is lovely with a proper power blind that completely blocks light. The only downsides for me being an earlier car is the lack of DAB and Android Auto, but it does have Bluetooth streaming. It just really goes about it's business with no fuss or bother. That it also has decent bad weather/light off roading ability is reassuring. Maintenance is key with these things, definitely I would avoid a poorly looked after one. Did contemplate replacing it recently for a newer one, but it's so good (and the new ones so expensive by comparison) I just couldn't justify it. As others mention it really is the sort of car you want to buy and keep until it dies! We only got the 2.2 diesel in the UK, sounds like it's just as well given how unreliable the petrols can be!

To answer the title question, if you like the Hyundai/Kia brand and you need a three row people carrier, get the Kia Carnival/Sedona. Was just starting to like your channel. Subjective...but 'that' model Santa Fe was a well known game changer for Hyundai and is lauded for being possibly the best value and BEST looking SUV. IMHO when blinged up, is the best looking SUV and as a result a sales success in NZ. Many youtube reviewers got it right when they said this was designed for Dads. Looks like a bigger Ford Fiesta side on which is probably one of the best looking hatches as well. The next gen Santa Fe did not sell well because it was very conservative. The 2.2l Diesel is very very good, but like nearly everything (apart from Toyotas) now probably not going to do high km. I honestly thought the 'vibe' from you was going to be..."wow what a great looking SUV amongst a sea of boring, this shows that great design sells!!!"
