Thanks for a great series, I have enjoyed ALL the episodes❗ 🤗 There was a ferry from Newcastle to Bergen back in the day, it even went further from Bergen and up the coast to Molde, so those who went all the way got a lovely "coastal cruise" included in their trip. Let's hope some ferry line brings back a ferry between the two countries❗👍👍👍

My daughter and I have enjoyed this series so very much. We think of Norway as an unobtainable dream country. We were especially pleased today with this overview because we heard such positive comments on Norway (which we sometimes felt were not as often expressed in the other videos). Carol you are a gem and Ken my Dad was a CNR policeman for all his life, so I do understand your carefulness.

As an x pat that has been living on the outskirts of Stavanger for the last 36 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed your experience of this fantastic country with fresh eyes. Sometimes I was screaming, stop here, turn right, your missing this and that but on the other hand, you showed me some attractions that I never knew about and will be on my list to visit in the future. Thank you for that. I total agree when you limited your travels to one part of the country. It is a very long country and just attempting to see all four corners would mean you would be just driving for hours on end every day. Good advice! When it comes to cost that’s on many a travellers mind, you do not come here to party wine and dine or bask in the sun. The fjords and mountains are free to admire, hike and explore. Looking forward to your next adventure.

Great series! I'd say £1000+ per person for 3 weeks of travel is a bargain! Being from the US, it would cost me more than that just to get to Europe these days! I've been to Oslo several times but really want to explore more of Norway on my next visit. I'll be keeping your trip in mind and will consult this handy wrap-up to get the info I need.

Always fill up the tank on Sunday evening or Monday morning because then the fuel prices are always the cheapest in Norway. After this, the price peaks on Thursday, before gradually falling towards the bottom again. Btw. thanks a lot for your lovely footage from Norway! ❤💯

Coming from Lofoten myself, the amount of tourists that are there in the summer is crazy. You cannot turn in any direction without seeing an RV or some sort. Regarding snow: It hardly ever snows before mid-November. Gulfstream keeps things relatively warm. The start of May is when the normal roads don't get frozen anymore and you can drive on normal summer tires. Over to your series. I really liked it. I've been following you guys since you came to Norway in Kristiansand. You even parked overnight just a couple of km away from where I live in Randaberg and I think I saw you two when you were here. :)

Takk for turen, og velkommen tilbake! There used to be a ferry connection between Newcastle and Kristiansand (and Bergen) some (20) years ago, but it was shut down, too few people used it :/ Me and my wife and her brother went to the UK, where we ended up in York, and stayed in a very nice youth-hostel, doing excursions out and about. A wonderful holiday! I remember the snarky humor on the shop owners, I remember the old pub where a cat had one of the pub-chairs reserved, and I remember staying over 5 hours in the Royal Armoury in Leeds. I remember when my brother in law bought a wall-hanger (hand and a half-sword), and the ferry-guy said dryly " I think we'll keep that until the ferry arrives in Kristiansand, we English haven't had so good experience with Norwegians with swords in past times..." -If a ferry connection is re-established, we will probably return :)

I've also been on that ferry from Bergen to Newcastle with my family in 1995. The only thing I still remember that it was a rather dillipated Ferry at that time. Actually AFAIK that line is the predecessor of the Fjord Line.

As a Norwegian who grew up in Norway during the 90’s and 2000’s, I gotta to say that if I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure we had way more rest stops back then than now. And yes more common among the main roads because they would have heavier traffic during holidays etc. Back then they had more services too like food etc. Now the majority only have toilets and a table or two. I dunno the proper term in English, but it Norwegian we call them “kro”, rode side restaurant, often linked to a gas station. When on vacay, we’d always stop by a selective few on our way to our family cabin up in the mountains… now days those very places has closed down years ago. Huge part of my childhood😁 Btw our roads are shite. Even places like Albanian have better roads than us. But like most things nowadays, things aren’t made to last are they… I also never ever use the public roadside restrooms. After they closed or shut down the amount of services, cleanliness isn’t really a thing and what I hate about public restrooms or toilets is that people don’t hive a fuck, and makes a mess. Better to just go out in nature tbh. Rarely will you find a clean one where people haven’t shat or peed all over. The. again, not locals, but tourists. It’s a well known problem how tourism causes destruction to our environment as well as nature due to the amount of traffic. Btw “bom” in Norwegian doesn’t mean taxes nor toll, but basically a gate that closes of access to any road. It’s just that it’s associated with bompenger: «tollfees» which is why we use it. Penger means money. Fun fact English is actually a western Germanic language related to Norwegian, Icelandic and Faroese. Old English used to be very similar to Old Norse, what the Vikings spoke, before they changed English into what it is today. And it’s thanks to the Norwegian and Danish Vikings, besides the fellow Germanic people: Saxons from Belgium, Netherlands and Southern Denmark, who settled in the British Isles that English even exists. And a recent genetic study proves that all Brits are as high as 40% Scandinavian mainly of Norwegian ancestry😉 Shops being closed on Sundays is actually due to religion. Norway being a Christian country, traditionally one was supposed to keep the Sabbath aka Sunday holy, which meant no work. It’s also that one day off during the week, so of course people wanna relax. Not that we are that religious anymore, as the church separated from the state years ago and the majority of us are Atheists. But it’s just our culture I guess to have the Sunday off. Tho in the bigger cities it has become more common to keep grocery stores open. Not all, but a few. Why everyone knows to do their last minute grocery shopping on Friday or Saturday unless you wanna get take way or starve🤭

It’s fantastic that the shops are closed on Sundays in France, Germany and Norway, I remember when many German shops closed at lunch time Saturdays! It’s also marvellous no trucks on French roads on Sundays. Sunday is a day for the family, something forgotten in the U.K. employers want Sundays considered as just another working day for their employees, no enhancements.

You spoke commonsense in my eyes as to the limitations on travel keeping it to a particular area instead of just racking up the miles, far more time is saved this way & you get to be out & about more instead of being cooked up inside a vehicle, especially if the weather is as good as you experienced. Fabulous series and thoroughly enjoyed all your videos about Norway. I would have thought your total cost would be far more, especially when your ferry was over £500 so for 3 weeks that was a bargain. A million times better than a package holiday to the Canaries. Looking forward to seeing your Denmark series.

Food prices, you can manage on a minimum budget if you wish. Almost all food stores in Norway have a counter/shelf with food that has a short shelf life that is sold at a reduced price of about 40 to 50% off, also "outgoing" vegetables/fruit can be found at reduced prices in counters next to the vegetable shelves.

You should definitely try Sweden as well at some point! Start with the southern region (Skåne) if you go from Copenhagen over to Malmö and then go along the coast southbound (the Österlen region). It is one of the most beautiful places in Sweden during basically anything but the winter. Not as spectacular as large parts of Norway but still an area a lot of Swedes also visit in the summer for holidays. You will definitely not be alone if you go there in the summer (June-August)... And, as an added bonus. Should be cheaper then Norway :)

Glad to see you had a nice time here in Norway :) I've enjoyed your series a lot. Fun to see you explore less-known places. You mentioned closed restaurants on Sundays? That was surprising to me unless you were in some very rural places. In most cities (even the small ones) the restaurants are open, and cinemas and museums as well. So it's not completely dead here on Sundays, just almost ;)

Norway is expensive, especially for foreigners, but I think you managed well for that kind of money:) September in 21 and 22 was a bit warmer than normal, with some Indian summer. For some more scenic roads, places, etc, too make the the distance short as possible the best way is to start around Namsos and drive the coast to Bodø. But it depends on what you want to explore. But for lush scenery, mountains, the ocean, the sand beaches etc.

If you are there from mid June you are almoust alone with a lot of flowers and birds singing all night! And the temperature is very nice. You will meet only a few germans, Netherlands and us!

Hi Both, yep, done the drive up to Hirtshals on northern top of Denmark a few times. Yep it's a long drive. I wouldn't do it without a night stopover somewhere. I don't like those northern Europe motorways much either, a lot are just two lanes so inside with lots of trucks or outside keeping up with BMWs and Mercs.

What a pleasant video to come up! I was expecting something on a Tuesday. I’ll tell you one thing, I don’t think I could afford to live in Norway. Maybe I’m wrong. I’m off on the trek now from the very northeast corner of Tennessee Avenue to Seattle, Washington. I don’t remember how many miles a ticket about 3819 something like that. I won’t be able to do that at two hours a day. Well, I could, but I’ve got to be there in four days. Will have to drive 8 to 10 hours each day to get there in time. Woo hoo! But I won’t do that again for a while. This was a nice distraction on the road and I thank you for that. This is actually a very, very series. I enjoyed every one of the videos. I never figured out what SOD was. Oh well thanks for the rundown. Looking forward to Denmark!

Excellent series/tour. Thank you. Lots of great photography/videos and ideas of places to visit. How did you access the internet, UK phone SIM? We went in May June and until we got to Nordkapp, it was shorts and T shirts all the way, although the Artic Circle (about halfway up the country) was snowy, then it got warm again further north. The Arctic Circle in Finland however, was shorts and T shirts again. Lots of reindeer wandering around all over the place further north. We differ from you in that I find driving is the greatest pleasure, for us it is the journey, not necessarily the destination. - 6000 miles in three and a half weeks. You would hate that I guess. But we stopped off to walk and explore here and there. Each to their own.
@LifeistooshortCK
@LifeistooshortCK Год назад
Yes, we just used our UK data plans with EE and Three for the internet. Your trip sounds amazing. We would love to venture further north but the driving distances are a bit daunting for us ☺️
