Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture.
With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

Shouldn't use WD-40 as a lubricant on bearings. It will work more as a degreaser than a lubricant. The problem is you may of cleaned all of the grease in the bearing out with WD-40 causing the bearing to fail.
@jbbuzzable
@jbbuzzable 3 года назад
Many people think that the standard WD40 cures all. They now have different formulas for various applications..

@johnpadilla480
@johnpadilla480 3 года назад
WD-40 is rust preventive. Spraying metal periodically will prevent rust even unpainted metal wont rust. Do that to your bolts and nuts in place and you will see that good maintenance will pay off once something needs to be fixed.

A suggestion: that sleeve? you could have cut that off with the torch.. as long as the heat is directed at the sleeve you can cut it off without damaging the shaft.. apply to much heat & the shaft will soften.. focus on the sleeve, that is what your after.

Soooo we had to take bearings off of shafts that where seized. Instead of hammering and drilling to get that inner bearing part out, we made a cut all the way through the bearing part with the grinder on one side and then hammered like it had pissed us off (it had), and the part shattered into 2 or 3 chunks. Took like 5 minutes. 😂

Maybe you can get a participation award for that. Oh and coming from an engineer, though the bolts you hammered out did not look so reusable. If you ever want to reuse them when you hammer them out thread the nut on a bit to protect the threads. Love the "are you okay". Keep up the great family/farm videos. So refreshing!

The next time you need the centre of a bearing off it’s easier just to get the grinder an cut it off down to the shaft an it will off

He had the torch, he could have just cut it. Another way if you don't have a torch or grinder is to hold a large hammer on one side and hit it with a slightly smaller hammer on the opposite side and you can crack them. Do it while is red hot and the metal will stretch.

And if you turn that shaft hole in the bearing bracket into a slot, you won't have to pull the bracket next time.

@BWM it warps the shaft.( Doesn't matter how I know that.) The last one I I welded a nut it and spun it off. Said a few naughty words at those fn set screws more than once.

Just drill out the grub screw with a 10mm bit,threw the screw and the cast of the bearing. clean the shaft with sandpaper, grind a deep line into the old bearing and few hits with a hammer and chisel and away it will come. Adding heat will put a warp in the shaft even tho you may not see it.over a short period of time your new bearing will have wore down.

My thoughts exactly.Nothing works quicker! Dont even worry if it cuts the shaft a little,it'll be fine.

Aww c'mon! 5:10 You can't say "shaft" and "Polish it up a bit" (almost in the same sentence) without further comment or a sideways look at the camera after. You just can't!

Like most things in the universe... useless is a relative term. I'm sure you are useful... somehow... in some circumstances. Maybe your wife has some ideas on this.... or not... >.< Looks like you figured things out. Hope the bearing it doesn't fall out again.

Very unlikely that a shaft would be aluminum. Nice work getting the bearing replaced.
