I was just prescribed this medicine by a gastroenterologist. She wants me to take 20 mgs. for the rest of my life due to finding my biopsy indicated Barratt's Esophagus (non-dysplasia). I don't have any serious 'gerd' problems but came up positive for an at home color-guard test and have another colonoscopy/endoscopy scheduled for 5/21/24. I don't think I want to take Omeprazole for the rest of my life.
full blown depression and severe anxiety, intrusive thoughts, derealization and depersonalization on this stuff. was fine before taking it 3 months ago aside from stomach issues and just now realizing there's many others who experienced the same.
Just having stomach problems for sooooo long has severely deteriorated my mental health, i sure cant afford to be more depressed than i already am. I was just prescribed this for my severe reflux. Now im scared
I took 20mg for 2 days. The best way to describe it was "cognitive confusion" and disorientation 2 hours after taking it. Friends told me, don't over think it. What? This sounds really strange, but it felt like I was walking in a giant marshmallow. I know my body and was actually hoping this would work for me.
Dude same omfg. I tried my first pill today prescribed from my physician and I threw the rest of the bottle away! Literally making my stomach worse first of all. Second the anxiety is insane (I already have high anxiety to begin with) and the intrusive thoughts are worse, I feel like a shit person become I have harm OCD and the thoughts become more intense on this stuff. Glad someone can relate to me. My goodness
Been taking Omerprazole for several years now. Doctor wants me to gradually ween myself off of it. Won’t authorize refills. Used to take it every day. For 2 weeks reduced to Monday, Wednesday and Friday. In another week I’ll only take it Monday and Thursday. After 2 or 3 weeks I’ll take it on Mondays. Then stop altogether. So far I feel fine with no acid reflux pain like I used to get if I missed a day. It will be good to reduce my prescription meds by 1. Maybe I can work on eliminating the other three. Since I lost weight, I’ve had ideal Blood pressure for over 4 months!
I have real bad Acid Re-flux Disease and my doctor years ago put me on Omeprazole when it was only available through prescription. But then it became available over the counter and I started getting it from the store. I have been taking Omep 20 for about 15 years now and for the most part it works, but occasionally I still get bad heartburn and need to take a 2nd pill for the day. I have NEVER ever experienced any side effects, no stomach pain, no hair loss, not even foggy minded. If I were to quit taking it I would get extremely sick to the point of vomiting heartburn uncontrollably. Before I started taking it I would have heartburn shoot up into my throat while I was sleeping and it would burn my throat closed, I couldnt take a breath in, I could exhale no problem but couldnt breath in unless I went very slowly and it wasnt fast enough to get any oxygen. Its a very scary experience. I am just now hearing about people getting hurt from Omep use but its a surprise to me. Im wondering if I should taper off and use a different product or just stay as I am.????? I have a 9 year old boy who needs me to stick around for as long as I can. FYI: I usually take my Omep on an empty stomach, then I eat an hour after I take it. Sometimes I take it as I eat but mostly on an empty stomach. Maybe thats why it hasnt hurt me the way it hurt others. ??????
@@DrMJC13 Ive started taking it every other day. Doing that for 2 weeks then im going to take a half a pill every other day for 2 weeks. Ill use Pepcid or Zantac if I need to instead.
this comment is a year old and i assume that your cough is gone but it can be very well related to stomach acid issues. if you have reflux it will affect your esophagus and therefore irritate your throuht giving you the cough.
I took it for 5 years, had an endoscopy and they removed Fundic polyps caused by Omeprazole. While taking it for bad heartburn I experienced what I can only describe as a kind of powerful juddering in my upper torso which was weird. As the endoscopy found nothing else, I decided to take myself off it which took me sometime alternating between Rennies and Gaviscon. It took about three months to wean myself off, not a pleasant experience! After still suffering from bouts heartburn after 3 years, my heartburn problem has pretty much disappeared since lockdown. Obviously all caused by stress.
Since I usually do not eat an evening meal, I cut my tablets into and take a half the first thing in the morning. I believe it leaves my system by the evening and hopefully will avoid any side effects. I would find it very difficult to get along without it.
I developed Acid Reflux after my Cancer treatment. I have been taking this now for almost a month. It makes me feel good actually. I do take a good probiotic everyday also.
I have taken this medication for 25 years. I learnt about the side affects a few years ago. Apparently one should only take for up to eight weeks. Great medication for short term fix. I have been cutting back and take one every other day. I think it has contributed to leaky gut symptoms. I started because I got a hiatal hernia from having whiplash the third time. Do not do what I did. Know that I’m getting off of it I need to heal my stomach and my body for the reason I took it in the first place.
I was on this for some years , but people you need your stomach acid to work as it should . This is why you could try Cyder Vinegar , one cap before dinner in a third tumble r of water . Cyder Vinegar with the Mother . Ask your doctor first . Depending what your problem is of course. It works for reflux ,gurd indigestion problem . It worked for me !
This is the basic B.S. Tell me something I can really use. Stop eating spicy foods, salt and don't eat too much of anything at one time. Plus watch your condiment intake. All that extra stuff you put on food so you can gulp it down. Don't feel guilty about eating food for it'll make you fat and be relaxed when eating. Everybody is stressed to the limit these days. Stress and food don't work well.
I've read it can also cause hair loss about 1%. I've been using it for about a year now. Started noticing my hair coming out since March every day now.
My doctor prescribed me omeprazole omepron 40mg for 1 mant and antacid for 5 days 3× /day and omeprazole sodium bicarbonate for 1 mant also..after taking for 1 week i started diarrhea so i stop because i was nervous for side effects..now i try to take a herbal form..
Thanks for this information. My GP prescribed this medication for my acid reflux. I don't take it every day; I take it when needed. I had to also watch my diet in order to avoid excess us of the medication. Also to avoid side effects associated with the medication.
Does anyone have problems with hip and leg pain with this ? I’m 54 and feel like I’m in my 70 ‘s bad 70’s at that . This leg pain reminds me of leg pains I had taking Lipitor . I stopped taking it yesterday just to see if I feel better.
Michael Haulotte I don’t have leg problems, but it makes me dizzy and short of breath. I started wondering why my breathing was not in rhythm. I read some of the side effects were shortness of breath and dizziness. I’m getting off this stuff! My heartburn isn’t that bad for this!

Had the most horrific allergic reaction to this, started off as a spot on the palm of my hand, then within a day or so both hands were covered in massive blisters, I had to have them all burst, took ages to clear up. Wish I had never taken them.
Wait I got prescribed Omeprazole 20 mg. For a work injury, I sprained my ankle and hit my foot and my hip and ever since I been taking this medication my leg be feeling so weak. Why would my doctor prescribed me this medication if it has nothing to do with my injury. I didn’t walk in the clinic with a heart burn problem or a acid reflux. This medication sound like is for that.
It is sometimes prescribed with anti inflammatory medications to prevent ulcers, If you were using ibuprofen or naproxen for the associated pain the prescriber was probably trying to prevent stomach issues.
I have been through hell and back with the most painful nausea and vomiting 🤮 been through this at least ten times in the last 3 months everytime I go to hospital they do tests but they don't know what wrong with me . please can someone help with some advice ?

I've been taking this for 18 months for indigestion i take 20mg i started getting pains in my legs and arms about 6 months ago i then got severe diarrhoea which has kept me off work for the last 20 weeks my doctor point blank refuses to think that omeprazole has anything to do with symptoms even though every test they have done for other causes come back clear has anyone else had these symptoms taking this
I had GERD and I take omeprazol 40mg per day for three months. From five days I started to feel pain in my legs, joints and muscles and also stiffness. I am a doctor and I checked in pharmacological books for side effects of omeprazole and I found that these are some of the rare side effects of it.
I developed an allergy to this drug, I would get red spots that would not heal, I now take a different reflux tablet with a different protein inhibitor I think it's called Stovon, or something like that, I only take when really needed otherwise I watch what I eat and more importantly when I eat, nothing worse than reflux while sleeping and worse still during a medical procedure which caused me a dose of pneumonia.
Just started taking it for reflux and it helping alot. I would like to know if you need to eat or can wait hours. I don’t typically eat in the morning. Also it did mess up my warfarin which Dr didn’t mention may happen. Thank you for your video. 😊
Hi, I've been prescribed this product and I'm only 15 years old, they said to use omez for my condition, of bacteria In my urine does this medication have anything to do with bacteria when urinating and am I old enough to take this? As for side effects I've, only taken them today so I have no idea of anything yet but do I take 2 capsule the two capsule one after another or can I take the other one later on the day? I have to take this medication before meals for 5 days.
Those are excellent questions. Please, keep a journal of your concerns and symptoms. Then talk to your doctor, bring the journal with you to the appointments, and tell the doctor your concerns. You are young to be talking medicine, so write the questions down and ask your doctor to answer your questions.
I'm scared to take this pill I just got it perscribed today but my burping symptoms are so bad it's my last option before seeing a G.I. Wish me luck. If you are able to respond to my comment should I be scared of the bad side effects?

Probably best to check with your doctor, most people are able to use omeprazole for 4 to 6 weeks without any major issues. Have you noticed any foods that seem to set off the symptoms?

It does seem reasonable to take another course of omeprazole, however I don't give specific advice. Best to check with your Doctor to make sure there are no other issues.
I have always said that the US has the laziest pharmaceutical industry the world. With the advances in technology medications without side effects can be made. But why are they not made? Because a perfect med doesn't make them money as opposed to one that keeps the consumer coming back for more. Think about it. That's just my humble opinion.
I was on it for years and Zantac before that . Can't digest anything now , and interesting you mention your shoulder . Terrible side effects , amazing where malabsorption can lead . All PD's have risks , in my experience very few benefits .
I took it for 10 years with statins etc i come of them now, it reduces acud too much. The acid closes the valve and stops gurd etc less acid doesnt shut the valve but splashes about and the acid attacks protective coatings in your food pipes. Which mase it difficult to stop taking. When stopping dont dring caffeine drinks ir spices alchol etc drink water fir about a month. Side effects for me, aching legs, numb feet, hot feet , but tge 4 tablets i was taking all had same side effects so makes it impossible to determine which tabket is the culprit so stopped them all gradualy .eating more fresh foods but still have my treats, statins and omaprazone stop the nutreints you eat going into the body thru the stomach. So side effects will be different for everyone depemding on what foods you eat. Cholestrol delivers thrm round the bidy like amazon round the country. Any shortages you become ill as does the country if amazon doesnt deliver . Eg
I use this medicine to treat my indigestion. Its really effective but i always throw up after an hour or two. It feels very awful cause i usually dont eat once im having an indigestion and im throwing up liquids after i take the medicine. Is there a way to not to throw up?
I found out that drinking Jell-O helps within seconds, but it's not a permanent solution. Also, drinking Apple Cider Vinegar with the Mother once, or twice a day helps with acid reflux. (2022) I'm currently dealing with GERD, have been for months now. I haven't taken omeprazole in months, and I had to change my diet, my digestion has improved but I still can't eat chicken, I can only eat fish, and a small potion of meat, I vomit once a week. I stay away from caffeine, and carbonated drinks. I noticed my weight fluctuates, I lose or gain weight, but I mostly lose weight. Currently I'm seeing a nutritionist and it's helping a little but not much else. I have already made an appointment to see my doctor, but my cousin recommended a endoscopy procedure, or a digestive specialists. I hope this information helps you.

Doctor, it is okay to continue taking it, i got in my lips tiny white spots, after taking it with ranitidine, im taking 40mg everymorning because i have gastritis, my doc. presciption is one 40 mg tab/day for 2 weeks with ranitidine 150mg 3tab/day for 2 weeks, it is worth to continue, it im bothered with allergic reaction in my lips

No wonder I been shitting better LOL. I been on methadone going on 7 years in July and since I been on the program I been really backed up but once I started this medication for my acid reflux i was able to pass my bowels (MethBombs as I call them) lol. In a instant I lost my swollen belly went back to flat I was like holy I was literally full of shit LMFAO!
My wife get omeprazole prescription because of chest tightness caused by post Covid 19 surfer but the side effects of this medication make us worry if it’s the right thing to take
