I am showing how I use a beautiful digital kit to make a junk journal. From choosing papers and planning the signatures to adding elements like pockets, tuck spots and embellishing pages, this journal begins with a lovely digital kit from StacyStories on Etsy - Poppy Blossom Blue Vintage Digital Kit. www.etsy.com/listing/10363527...

Great video Kathleen. From what I have seen, junk journals have evolved and I personally like the addition of digital kits. Looking forward to the next video. 😀

Thanks so much Alice! Digitals certainly make the junk look better, haha!

I’ve always enjoyed your style and thought process when making a journal. On a personal note, I’ve purchased and watched a LOT. I was disliking everything I made because I was following everyone else. I’ve had to take a step back to figure out my style. I think if we can say at the end of the day we’re enjoying what we create then that’s what we should keep doing…no matter what it’s called. Looking forward to more of your videos.🙂

This is such a great guide in picking out the mood and specific items for creating a new journal! I will be referring to it in the future ❤

Thank you, Kathleen. This is a great video topic and I really appreciate you tackling it! From very early on, I decided that I was journal making and not a junk journal maker. Even though I do include older “junk” items that is only part of my journal, so the word junk does not feature when I explain my craft. My brain struggled to refer to scrapbook papers, digitals etc as junk, so my solution for me was not to refer to it, however, still add some pieces into the journal. Hopefully, that explains my thinking. However, others can call this craft whatever they choose and I’m not bothered by it. Kindness in thought and deed is much more important than what is right or wrong in simply using a word. I’m looking forward to the next two sessions! 😀💞

It can be such a hot topic, haha! I actually think trying to explain what we do is the hardest part of this. But other kinds of art are also difficult to explain, so I guess we just do the best we can. When people ask me what I do, I usually just say that I am a bookmaker. If they seem interested, I go from there.

Pretty kit. As you know I'm not a newbie to JJs. When I started down this rabbit hole they were primarily made with junk, that was what appealed to me the most. But this hobby has now evolved into using many more things besides junk. I look at kit buying for the same reasons as you explained; covers, ephemera, and pages. I have never used a whole kit for a journal. I love other types of pages/papers too much to go there. In my mind I'm still keeping with the JJ feel, the original way that caught my eye and lured me to this craft. Can't wait to see more of how you pull this altogether. TFS Hugs * L

I’m glad you think so Leslie! I still like to make the junky journals too and sometimes I just challenge myself to only use junk. But, I really do enjoy using all of the pretty things I can manage to find as well. I am better and better at finding great things now too. It takes a trained eye, don’t you think? I’m sure you know what I mean.

Such a great video!! I absolutely love the colors and the papers and how you put it all together! I love how you make your journals and the themes and styles. Really love all of it this, this was such a helpful video. I've been hearing a lot of that too, can't people just except a beautiful craft that does use junk? What's the point of a junk journal of it's not beautiful? Really love it so exited to see the finished journal!

Thanks Anne! The colors are really nice - blue is always so calm and lovely and I agree that the point is to make junk beautiful!

Great topic Kathleen 👍🧡 loved the weight of that dollar tree paper! Which printer do you have that takes thicker paper? I haven’t gone the digi route yet but planning on getting a printer

Thanks so much Johanne! I have an Epson ET 3760. It’s pretty new and I’m actually not so sure I like it, only because it seems so complicated to me. I think because I’m on the old side of electronics, haha. It does take the paper and lightweight card, so far! I have tried heavier card yet. Digitals are really not necessary, but I think they add so much, especially when real ephemera is hard to come by. The digital images are a good substitution, though I do prefer the real thing when I can find it.
