I suffered an overuse injury to my knee from running too much volume. I needed a tool to cross-train while I shut my running down. Due to gym restrictions, I could not use the typical cross-training techniques of treadmill, elliptical machines, studio bikes, or swimming pools.
The demand for men's bicycles are so high right now I would need to take a second mortgage on my house to purchase a bike. This left me with limited options for cross-training.
I had learned about the use of a Kickbike while listening to the Running Public Podcast. A European female elite Spartan racer had used the kickbike for cross-training. I had never heard of such a thing and researched the kickbike.
What I learned is that it is used by dog mushers in the summer for training, commonly referred to as dryland mushing. The bike was developed in the Nordic countries and other athletes such as runners and XC skiers started using it for cross-training.
My thought is the Kickbike somewhat resembles the motion of running and hopefully will strengthen my hips while reducing my ground contact time and increasing my stride length. I have been training with it on a track for Zone 1 steady state endurance.
I purchased the CrossMax 20 from KickbikeUS.com for $599. You have to put this bike together and the written instructions aren't great. This is the best RU-vid video I found on how to assemble the bike:

I plan on cross-training with this Kickbike over the course of the next 4-6 months while reducing my running volume. I will be doing additional updates on the use of it for cross-training.
Thanks for watching.
