Using a Mouse & Keyboard on Nintendo Switch... 

I do wish they'd support using the mouse in Mario Maker 2 when making levels. I think that would have been a great option.

I'm a game developer, and I'm currently working on porting a game to Switch, and one of the things I'm ensuring is that the keyboard and mouse experience works out of the box, just like it would on the PC version.

Honestly, keyboard and mouse support should just be standard in all console games. I doubt it would be difficult to do. More options are always a good thing, that's why I got into PC gaming in the first place.

Nintendo included mouse support in Game Builder Garage and it worked beautifully. But rather than making me appreciate their inclusion of the functionality, it left me annoyed by all the titles that should and could have had mouse support, but didn't. Mario Maker is at the top of that list.

What the heck, I was just wondering this but didn't have any further motivation to try it on the switch since I do this with my Xbox/PC for Minecraft haha

It might be nice if these had an option to emulate the gyro, rather than just the analogue stick. I think something like Splatoon 2 would work pretty well with a good keyboard and mouse profile.

If I recall Game Builder Garage also has keyboard and mouse. Though I think it's just mouse support, which is cool. Really wish that Super Mario Maker 2 had that support.

Hey Bob! New to the channel, actually the first video I stumbled upon was the Gigabyte monitor review. But I stayed for the Switch content and recently I bought a Switch OLED - my first Nintendo console at 29 years of age. I previously was (and still am) a PC and PS/Xbox gamer and did not really understand the hype behind Nintendo titles (Nintendo games/consoles were also not really popular here in Poland ever). But I got tired of the constant "who gets the best graphics" battle instead of "who makes the most enjoyable game" and wanted something new (also, my GF likes to travel a lot so I needed something portable for gaming on the go). So for the first time since it's release I got interested in the Switch and based on your videos I decided to give it a go. And boy oh boy do I love it. I do not have that many games yet but I love the form factor, I love the different ways that I can play games on it and I love the OLED screen. I also got the 8BitDo Pro 2 controller and now I cannot imagine myself going anywhere without these 2. I am sorry for the long post but I just wanted to thank you for making fantastic content in general and "making me" get the Switch. Now, I need to save some money to get these damned Nintendo games :D Cheers!

I've tried that mouse you have too. There is definitely input lag in the mx master. Changing mouse choice might help but there's probably lag in the whole chain.

I quit PC gaming about 6 years ago, I bought a switch for my daughter but was thinking of using it as well for some casual FPS action, especially for Metroid Prime Remastered, which is only available on the Switch. I'm pretty bummed out with the options.

For anyone interested, Hypnospace Outlaw has full mouse and keyboard support on Switch too.

i think a full mouse/keyboard assist would help the switch to be more viable for people coming from pc-only gaming and seeing the switch as a childs toy.

I have a thing called the Titan Two which can do keyboard and mouse. Its input system is far less elegant than the devices featured in this video, but it can do a few more things. Like it can convert basically any controller to switch Xbox etc. I could use two DK Bongos (if I had two) and probably map them so that I can play any switch game with DK bongos. I will get a second pair eventually just to do that, but its not on my priority list.

I'm not a fan of Fortnite but the way you flossed after getting that Victory Royale was golden. XD

I honestly wouldn't feel bad using this in a cross platform lobby with friends. You're playing at 25fps, you deserve mouse with aim assist lol. Solo where you're matched with other Switch and mobile players though, that's definitely cheating.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly certain the old dooms didn't even support mouse on PC. They used the arrow keys.

It might not be a limitation of the Nintendo Switch hardware anymore. The recent release of Quake II will allow use of a USB Keyboard & Mouse natively. This spins things around a bit knowing that the limitation could be in the game devs court.

Nintendo should give us a patch that allows a wireless mouse/keyboard to legit work. Having a mouse cursor on screen to play Northgard, Broken Sword, etc would make games like that a *_lot_* more accessible and fun.

Really wish keyboard and mouse worked on all consoles for all things.

I'm curious if you could use one of these devices so that you could do something like controlling the game with voice commands or twitch chat, as if I'm correct that's how DougDoug does it.

lmao Doom wasn't made with mouse support in mind, just so you know. It didn't even have mouse support to begin with on the original DOS release, so the keyboard controls are accurate. Do a little research, my guy.

If you plug the keymander into say, the wall, will it power those hungrier keyboards?

Not cheating. This is an accessibility feature being denied to players more than anything else. Plus, if it's a game that has gyro/motion control aim already, then it's not really an unfair advantage (especially since almost every one of these adapters equates the mouse to the digital sticks on the controllers anyway)

How does Keyboard & mouse work with Nintendo Minecraft? I hate playing minecraft with a controller, it’s not fluid at all

I expected the xbox to have full k&m support because it uses a modified Windows OS, but my xbox one suffers whenever I plug them in. But I am so happy to know the support for it is good on Quake in the switch because I love that game.

I'd honestly love to have keyboard and mouse support on the Switch. I do use a controller most of the time even on PC, but I'm all for more choice, and there are some games that I just like to play better with a keyboard and mouse. A lot of the games I play are PC ports, so the functionality should just be there already anyway, it's like they rip it out on the Switch.

what if they could emulate gyro control with the mouse? it wouldnt work in every game, but those that do might work perfectly like a mouse without as much setup fuss

I just picked up a copy of Scribblenauts that was on sale. This game seems made for a keyboard & mouse setup.

So about Fortnite and "cheating" with a mouse and keyboard on Switch... I don't think it makes much of a difference, if any. Fortnite uses forced cross platform, skill-based matchmaking for all of its' main gamemodes, so you will be playing with people across all input methods all of the time anyways! It helps that Fortnite runs at 30fps and is has forced controller input prompts on the Switch anyways so there are tradeoffs that would make this overall not worth using for anyone that is serious about Fortnite on a Switch

I always knew you could use a keyboard... but a mouse? You could use an airmouse to control both, cursor and keyboard.

I know I'm late to seeing this video the only function a keyboard has on the Nintendo switch is typing and then a mouse has no function and not compatible

Let me give you a list of all the games I own on switch with keyboard and mouse support. 1: game builder garage And that was the list of games I own that supports keyboard and mouse.

Why don't controllers just use trackballs or trackpads instead of the right stick? It would allow for some of that high-precision aiming that mouse gives while still maintaining the benefits of a controller.

fortnite has a bug on pc where aim assist kicks in while your using the mouse on a pc.. Just like you'll have a moment where your like wtf. very rare though

If stupid nintendo would release stadia or xcloud on switch, I wouldnt need to dream about steam deck every night..I bought aimbox vx2 and will try, want to play some games like (warface, apex legends), 30 fps and playing against ps4/xbox players is fair I presume..but I mainly want to play zelda/crysis trilogy

I was just thinking recently that it would be pretty sick to have a big ol' joystick with the sensitivity of an analog stick (not even sure if this is a thing) for the left hand and a gaming mouse with well-placed buttons on the right. I'm not a PC gamer and I don't have the money to mess around with something like that just for fun, but hey it might make for a good Wulff video. Always like your work, Bob.

Thats because other consoles don't have gyro aiming, whereas on Switch, virtually every game with aiming supports gyro. Also, less than 100 games actually support KB/M on Xbox and even less on PS

There is a game called rogue company on switch. I constantly play it on kbm. But you can’t really crouch, use your extra abilities, or jump. Just roll, move, aim, shop, switch to lefty mode, and shoot. And on top of that your mouse sensitivity is pretty slow and it isn’t adjustable.

What about the fact that Nintento has given us a device that is designed to play on a TV from the comfort of your couch - and then fails to give you and wireless/Bluetooth Microphone support for your headsets. So now you have to sit within 4ft of your 65" tv so you can plug a headset into your switch dock and break your neck trying to get a good viewing angle.

xbox x and ps5 are basically pc' desktops with a ui (or operating system) of a console, where as Nintendo switch is a console by the most simplest definition, Whats the distinctions? consoles are usually plug and play with new and existing games where pc desktops you need to install the game first to be able to play it, exactly like xbox series x and ps5

i play fortnite on xbox with mouse and keyboard but its really annoying after not using controller a while keyboard and mouse goes off saying controller has disconnected even tho its plugged in to usb and still randomly disconnects i was hopinf you could play mouse and keybosrd on switch, guessing not lol

I would love a steam deck, but even though I pre-ordered it last July on the 17th and I was going to get it in February but then they kept extending the date on it. Steam decks are too hard to get right now, I wouldn't be recommending it at all in your vids until it is easier to get.

I just want to use this for Star Wars kotor and after watching the video realized there probably isn’t a cursor on the game anyway so it defeats the purpose . It’s just the battles I cannot have a fun time without keyboard and mouse for the battles.

I’ve bought Quake on Switch cause it supports KBM and it’s a joy to play. Ignored all other FPS, since the devs didn’t bother to implement KBM.
