I'm pretty sure that once a chemical is taken out of its container, there is a risk of the substance being affected by dust particles and bacteria in the air. Which is why you must use fresh samples when instigating a reaction!
Some chemicals can be dangerous and it can have a reaction with the pan or even seep through it, destroying the machine. If it is kept in a way boat, it can melt the material and cause a hazard.
