Been messing around with Sonic Suite and man its been saving my ears so hard but I will always find one sound I forget about it a range and BAM! its like a grenade went off lol
Information is reality. The more information you have available to you (whether it be visual or audio related) makes it easier to win or exploit the game. When people think of hacking they only think of things visually. Using 3rd party hardware (such as a mixing board) to add compression or EQ to isolate footsteps is no different than using an extra monitor that runs a radar with player locations. It's simply an exploit that's yet to be patched and your Ratking buddy is using it as a gimmick instead of just having skills and playing the damn game (which more people would obviously appreciate.) Just watch Pestily, Lvndmark, DeadlySlob, or AquaFPS for awhile and you will see the difference. You should just be able to load up and play the damn game as opposed to dissecting it like a science project, that's what the devs are for...duh.

@@zaulbot617 Time buys you options, if you can hear or see the enemy first, (and they can't hear or see you) YOU get to decide it's a fight you even want to take. Keep in mind there's cheaters that run esp to see through walls just so they can loot the whole map and run away from everyone in it.
I've actually been using Equalizer APO for about half a year now with the AUTO EQ settings for my hd 58x's. Never in my life have I thought that this is the way I'll be caught cheating at video games

I downloaded equalizer APO last summer for Tarkov then shortly after got permabanned on league of legends. I deleted it, and 2nd account never got banned and is still used til this day by the gf. I been scared to re download it since.
I had no idea PapaPeg made music. I like the setup and dig the metal track you demoed. And while you don't post as often as the other Tarkov content creators it's always top notch.
I have my BA in Engineering and honestly flat band EQ is the best for tarkov, any manipulation at all really messes with their already terrible directional sound lol
@@highbred I mean you guys say this but after trying this out in Hunt for 2 weeks it is apparent that it is a huge advantage. In Hunt when a fire is so loud you can't hear footsteps.....you can now hear them with compression tool.
12 year audio engineer. One thing I would recommend when it comes to frequency response when dialing in your EQ is not to you use something like a metal track. I understand copy right and what not but for the sake of demonstration a simpler reference track would have been a much better solution. It’s hard to truly hear the color difference when crash and splash symbols are slapping every few seconds mostly hear 16k and not much on the attack of that kick. But overall not a bad quick explanation.
Just listen to a video of someone playing tarkov / walking around shooting ect while adjusting the EQ levels, goal is to get it to the point where ambience is reduced, gun shots are deafened, while footsteps are still comprehensible. That should save people's hearing as well as may provide some advantage.
the one thing EQ setting i can recommend for ALL people to lower the bassiest (lowest) and trebbliest (highest) frequencies SLIGHTLY, this removes the whooshing and rumbling of wind over the mountains, lowing the volume of useless ambient sound basically and it works for almost every game. remember, dont over do it, you dont want to collaterally reduce footsteps and other important audio
i love the bass though it makes the game feel alive. I have a set of iems and they make it sound so real and the compression makes the game not blow my eardrums out

anyone saying that using an equalizer is cheating just comes across as those little kids on call of duty back in the day; complaining about soundwhores because they dont have a proper headset and claiming hacks when they get outplayed after getting one.
Appreciate the audio content. Even if I'm too lazy to fiddle with it. I'm just keep using my Skullcandy Crushers with the audio turned just slightly down and the built in bass amp turned to max. Love a good bass filled boom.
I have somewhat impaired hearing so I'm at a clear disadvantage to anyone with "normal" hearing. Stuff like EQs & compressors level the playing field and I'm super grateful to people like you putting out helpful stuff. Some of the comments here are just too wild to not be written by trolls. Why not just ban all kids from playing EFT because their hearing and reaction time is an unfair advantage :3
I've been using Peace EQ for years. It's free, and works pretty well. Never considered that someone might think of it as cheating, for the same reasons you've outlined. To be fair though, I've not tried setting up specific presets for tarkov, or any other game. I just like to tweak my music listening, going to give this a go and see if it helps.
Great Video! What are your thoughts on stereo vs 7.1 surround? Is there much of a difference? I was using surround for the whole time and recently swapped to stereo ago and I think I actually like stereo more. (It was something Pestily said haha)
7.1 is typically just a shitty attempt at digitally "upscaling" stereo audio and I can't think of an example where it worked well in any game and didn't just muddy the location of footsteps, etc. It's still being played out of two drivers (headset, earbuds, etc.)
I started with the digital 7.1 option on my steel series arctis 7 and it made it impossible to tell where shots were coming from. It literally sounded like a shot was coming from every direction around me. Turned it off and it helped so much
My headphone cable was 1/2 plugged in, took me a bit to realized you weren't messing with the audio that much. That distortion in the intro fooled me. The video topic is equalizers, so I figured you were making a point!

@Nigidius The Needy Recoil scripts are textbook cheating and any competent competitive FPS should be doing file sum checks to stop texture changes. Sound equalization is necessary and in no way, shape or form cheating.
Thanks boss, disabled vet here. Tarkov is the only fps that messes with my anxiety due to how my hearing damage is. Something about it is just odd for me.
I have been playing with equalizer APO using the piece interface to adjust my headphones to hit a target curve. Mainly for music and using mainly the inputs from the autoEQ project on get hub. I use to think that EQ wasn't really needed for simple audio set ups then I gave it a try and now I drink the Kool aid and have preset for all of the headphones/IEM's in my rotation
Also wanted to remind everyone that even with the same exact audio setup, doesn't mean you will hear things the same as the next person might hear things.
i use apo equalizer with 2 vst plugins and a neutral sound profile for my headset + enhancing the frequency range the footsteps are in. works great, i hear people sneaking from 2 rooms away

I'm glad you're making videos about this. I cringe pretty hard when I see those "OMG I added an EQ to my audio and now its basically hax" posts... just to see their no audio complaints continue to roll in lol.
Beautiful fkn video, miss the beard :( lol Personally, I'd suggest turning the highs up more than the lows, lows are more centered and hard to figure direction, highs are more energetic and easier to perceive. It might make going through bushes or walking on gravel a little more annoying, but turning down the mids (2-4k) is what really helps for that. Ultimately, it'll make hearing enemies in bushes or on metal easier to detect. Even more personally, I'd suggest just going flat curve. The game already has an amazing sound engine. If you're not too sensitive to the volume or physically limited when it comes to hearing, then the vanilla sound design is beautiful already.
great video dude , also guys use good headphones / headsets irl try not to use basic earbuds cus earbuds usually don't have much sound staging which means you cant really know how far or close the enemy is and that could be meaning that someone could sneak up on you :D

i hate when people say this. using a equalizer isnt cheating. its just a windows setting that somebody found in 2013 and everyone is freaking out about it. equalizers for headphones can only change music aspects. it wont gain you an advantage in games. the frequencies in footsteps cannot be lowered. they are randomized in most games.
Just a side note, not negative. The bass and treble knobs aren’t the tuning knobs. The pic you showed is the tuning knob. The bass/treble is on the face of the guitar
the biggest change to my audio was just getting a decent quality dac and earphones, i currently use 64 audio u12t in ears and for a while i was using a soundblaster gc7 because its pretty sweet for gaming and honestly its pretty good overall but changed that recently to a chord mojo 2 dac/amp and it drastically changed my soundstage and imaging to the point i was picking out player direction better than i ever thought possible, i typically use a flat EQ because i enjoy the natural response of the earphones which are pretty strong on the harman curve but i never really thought about dialling out some of the more grating sounds like the bushes, ill have to experiment with it. i use other headphones aswell, some of which you would think might dump on in ears for soundstage like beyer DT1990 pro's but they really don't much to my surprise aswell, the dac has been the one big factor in my chain that has opened up the sound and imaging, cant speak for cheaper stuff though and the u12t in particular are out of most budgets.
Just thought I'd mention, EQ balances can drastically change what you hear when wearing helmets that do not allow for active headsets, allowing for more helmet options.
Yeah and you can reduce ambient sounds like wind and bird chirps. Other players won’t have this advantage. Don’t see how this advantage over other players isn’t cheating. But y’all just want something for you because people continue to be selfish humans.
I started EQing after the compression video. I’ve been thinking about it for a while. I use Sennheiser 598’s, great, but fairly neutral. I just boosted high (10k hertz) and low end (but a low cut to 80hz, just to take away the muddiness).

I am a long time watcher of you and I like your content. I do not at all think compression and eq are cheating and I get it, there are haters bla bla bla... But in so many videos you tell 10 times how you dont care about haters and how you are right. There was also the video about ballistics with this very similary attitude. You get so defensive and tell the haters that they are wrong and you always try to prove that you are right. Its kind of frustrating me and I dont know wheter I see It as arrogance, stubborness or insecurity. Now guys, you can go ahead and downvote me. I think, I am pretty fair and what I am giving is constructive criticism. I am trying to share this opinion/view, becaouse I like Onepeg and I want good for him.

But for now I still use voicemeeter Banana, I turn the treble, mid, and bass knobs for my speakers and headphones, but then I also have an EQ box on top of that in the lower right corner for the output speakers. I don't know how it works, it sounds good to me.. but I wish I had better EQ settings because right now it just looks like a couple of hills, and was the best way I could set things up for now. I def need more help setting up the EQ on my voicemeeter banana. I know a physical mixer to buy would probably be better, but for now the free software voicemeeter banana works well and has for a number of years with my tiny Logitech speakers and headphones.
I appreciate your work with audio recently. I play with eq/compressors and have found a happy place for the most part. I feel like my ears appreciate the razors the most when paired with my “v shaped” dt990 600ohm headphones. I’m not sure what profile the razors have that makes it more appealing. Sordins seem like it’s just too much of a good thing paired with my dt990s. Comtacs are too tinny with my setup. I don’t know all the jargon but thanks for your help. Is there somewhere I can see these in game headphones sound profiles?
my dirty little secret is owning a compressor VST with mid/side processing that allows me to target mainly the movement noise of my own character as it tends to sit in the center image of the stereo mix lol
I have an equalizer setting just for gaming. Simply put, lower bass and more treble. Allows you to hear more footsteps in any game that have footsteps. I just played around and tweaked it a bit to get ir to my liking and that was it.
Nahimic vs Sonar what is the main difference? Steelseries is producing Sonar now and supposed to be a new "professional" software like Nahimic... But what is the main difference and which one is better purely as an audio software?

It seems that we are at a moment where soon we are going to be treating changing of the graphics settings and postfx as OMG CHEATING. I have my postfx cranked all the way up into the candy zone as it really helps me discern people from their background using color instead of just movement. And it brings a little bit more cheerfulness into this dreary world. Anyway, kudos for bringing the light to the masses onepeg my friend, keep it going, you beautiful tarkovian truth bringer. By the way, in-game equalizer is called headphones and it comes in different settings as well, comtacs, tactical sports, walkers etc...
in theory, you could record the raining sound when you stand on the map in tarkov, then , get an EQ that cancels these frequencies, and your / enemies footsteps would be hearable between those frequencies.. THAT would be a crazy advantage
That’s not how audio works sadly. The sounds of footsteps share frequencies with the rain, so you’d be completely messing with the balance and thus perception of the footsteps. The games audio would be completely unreliable
I’ve had an EQ preset on my old Astro A40 TR’s with the mix amp for ages now. Should probably go back and look at it though cause I haven’t changed it in 5+ years
Not saying that this is cheating but do you believe this will give others the idea to use this style of sound compression to create something like an undetectable audio cheat. Like actually making it so rain doesn't make sound, or something like footsteps being more distinct as if wearing an in game headset? Or just tweaking it so it would mirror a headset in game without actually using it? Again not trying to be confrontational, just putting this out there for discussion. I don't really know if what I suggested is even possible, I'm no sound guy after all.
I have to use an equalizer. Everything is so quiet but gunshots that are close to me are way too loud. It scares my wife who sits on the other side of the room when it's silent then BOOM. I've been shot, I threw my mouse cause it blew out my ear drums. Dead. It's an issue with my headphones and my hearing working with radios for years.
Definition of cheating is "being advantegous over other players by non-game changes". Some stuff are inherently advantagous, like having a better computer and internet connection. So I'd say it is cheating if you are deliberately doing it to take advantage of it. So, equalizers are cheating because it affects how you hear stuff. BUT, this is where I agree with you, this kind of cheating is mild and I wouldn't say it is equal to using wallhacks, maphacks or aimbots. But by definition, I think accepting this as cheating is right thing to do. Cheers.

GSSH's and M32's are generally the loudest for me. I usually use the comtacs from ragman, or sordins. XCEL's are very good but also turn your overall volume up a little so you might want to turn your overall sound down when using them
is there a way to increase the volume for someone like me who is partly deaf in my left ear? i mean increase it for the specific ear only. would be nice to be able to hear better. i suffer from severe tinnitus in my left ear. constant sound of waves in my ear
I've tried experimenting around with my already in-place EQ to sound like your M32 Factory clip but I just can't, would you mind sharing the exact EQ Wave for that one clip? It just sounds right on my HD58Xs and I want to try it out and see if it would work on other maps aswell. Thanks brother!

I think that Tarkov is one of the hardest game to eq correctly, the ambient sound is maybe maid for that, they know that it possible to use eq, se they made the sound on various frequency. Of course it could only be what I think of it and them just making the sound close to reality and not even thinking about eq, but at least some of the employee know how to use eq, that show in the music mad by Nakita himself.
definitely. i spectrum analyzed tons of game audio clips and the noisy design i see everyone complain about is, imo, largely conscious design choices. a lot of player noises fall in the same frequencies that ambient noise lies in. in real life without active headsets, you rarely hear someone jogging a moderate distance down the street, unless their shoes are really slapping down on the pavement. the occlusion of enemy sounds sometimes hide enemy movement almost too well which leads to players interpreting their inability to hear someone running up to their position as a bug and that the audio engine is to blame. in my opinion, the only flaw of the sound design is the clipping with some active headsets.
i dont know any software that can scan the raw frequencies and id love to have one. then to modulate an EQ by the 500s. every time i look for one or something similar it comes up as in radio and not in app sound frequencies
I have ETD and all the high end is anatomically cut out from the sound. I can't tell if I'm cheating. Honestly, I barely hear anything. And everything I do hear, I think it's an enemy. I'm cracked.
Oh onepeg, your videos are so great and amazing. You don't cheat, why would having advantages over other players be called or seen as cheating? Thats just ridicules. Better sound just helps you locate your opponents. Although I do think they should just make a game where the sound is ok and not needed to be tweaked on custommers end. I bought a very budget pair of in ears and found that because they lacked proper bass I could hear footsteps MUCH further away and they were very crisp, even in raid and other distracting audio situations.
I'll be real, I don't even have enough volume to do that tbqh. I have to run Tarkov at 4% the PC Volume. And that shit almost blows my ears out. Starting to think I need to throw out the Corsair headphones
I run my DT 1990 Pro on a RME Fireface UCX 2 with integrated EQ, Compression and Auto level. Total Mix EQ freq. 6 dB boost at around 80hz and 8khz -3dB dip at 320 hz. But the sound in tarkov sucks anyway.
Does anyone know of a way to boost volume of tarkov? It seems like mine is ~30%lower than everyone i play with. I watch stream through discord and its easily twice as loud, so i know its not my headphones capabilities.

update * i have sent in all onepegs audio software he has mentioned along with other equalizers and compressors to bsg and they replied to me today saying that they are all considered 3rd party software and are not allowed in tarkov. i cannot share my report as it is against the rules to do so however once the ticket is closed i can share it. this report was made for onepeg's main sherpa account so not sure if he is using this one or another one.
you do know there are programs you can remove sounds you don't want kind of like noise suppression does (( just adjustable )) as i know a few people who one of the earphone cords that have a plug on both ends to plug from there sound card (( witch can use noise suppression on mic audio )) to his pcs main mic jack then uses windows sound control to make it play back on the mic witch is being looped back in to the headphones and it has no other sounds then the presets he uses (( aka voice and foot steps )) sadly i can't test it for my self as i don'y have a sound card (( also he edited his quite a bit so idk if others could copy it )) i just know i works as he was able to hear my foot steps in a game we both own anyway also anyone know why the built in noise suppression on discord and it picks up my voice and sometimes my foot steps? (( would love it if anyone has a idea why it picks up my foot steps some times ))
Hey is there also an option to get an more sound detail? ( distance and location) I got a high perception skill so I can hear ppl jumping into the 3 story dorms a while im behind the 2storey… I got too much sound informations I don’t need and that’s the bigger problem at least for me .

What do you think about volume levelization or volume leveler? Ive been messing with it on tarkov and it actually seems to work really well with tarkov because the sounds are not the best. It levels out all the noises in game, making the quiet stuff louder and making the loud stuff quieter. Been using Razers software as well as DTS software (dts programs comes with my motherboard) and Dolby Access.
