Had a roof problem and water was getting in. Went up on the roof and we had the older 2 tab shingles. Took the spray and coated the areas between the tabs and solved the leak and it only took 4 cans of spray. 4 cans of spray instead of a new roof and it lasted for 4 years until we did actually put a new roof on the house. Great stuff...

I also used Flex Seal on my roof around the chimney area. It worked REALLY well for two years. Hot summer sun along with usual weather elements will break down if used outside and especially on an exposed roof area. I was happy until I wasn't.

Flex Seal is not what most people think, just like i thought. It is a temp fix only. There is another video showing a guy who sprayed his vent rubber roof boots just like you did and 6 months later the Flex Seal was brittle and crumbling. Definitely do not use flex seal on roofs but thank you sir for your trying to help people. Thank you. I was going to use it on my mortar chimney cap to seal it. I am so glad I did not do it. CrownCoat is the only thing I will use for now on.

I can’t speak for flex seal but I live in central FL and I’ve used the gorilla glue brand rubberized spray for things like gutter leaks and small roof repairs. I’ve never had to go back because of a failure. I check on the repairs at the end of every year and no problems yet after 6 years

Black knight (and other brands) has a paint on tar which is extremely better than flex seal. It is also around the same price. Flew seal doesn't hold up to the weather.

I happen to agree with you, the replacement boot is the better way to go. For this video I was reviewing a product that was sent to me for testing and I chose this as my test. I hate to hurt this guy's feelings, but that flex seal probabbly isn't good for anything but maybe better than used chewing gum, it belongs on late night t.v. infomercials hosted by Bill Mays (R.I.P). If you want it done right the first time/last time use Henry's "extreme" rubberized wet patch (the most expensive version of the Henry's wet patch) Home Depot on the shelf stuff. Comes in calk tube for small jobs like this. The "extreme" rubberized version has UV blocking additives to prevent harsh sunlight u.v. rays from shrinking and cracking (lifetime warranty if you use the backing mesh sold separately). Last weekend I used the gallon size to re-tar the flashing around my chimmney..it's quality stuff, user freiendly, doesn't dry too fast and does stay flexible but has a dry feel after curing. Do read all instructions and on the can. Wear proper gloves. I used charcoal lighter fluid to clean off tools plus a few areas that got on my skin. The Henry's is not too thick to use a brush to spread and smooth it. As a side note, I noticed H.D. sold replacement boots, so you might also want to consider replacing the boot, than tar it. If you use the backing mesh you might want to follow up with a second coat the next day. This may sound too intensely laborous and expensive, but over time it is cheaper and of course much less labor (d.i.r.t.f.t)
@burbbilly

Henry's is good stuff I used it all the time and it never let me down, the cold ap was my go to. This was a can that was sent to me for testing. This vid was the test I also have a follow up at 6 months uploaded that shows how it held up

We had an EDM Commercial roof at my job that was notorious for leaking. I had gone up on the roof to do some HVAC work, and noticed several bad leak potentials, especially in the Mansard Vertical Areas. Got a couple cans of the stuff, and went over everything that looked bad. Had a Flash Flood Storm that night, no leaks whatsoever. Also it held up, through the seasons. Boss told us to stop using it, we went around him, especially when he went on leave. The stuff was absolutely amazing.

we installed a covering over the back porch, with metal sheets, and there are places where it leaks, likely due to position of the screws, obviously we need to make a patch for that but will this stuff seal the holes? the metal is that roofing tin that comes in 38 inch wide sheets with ridges

I own a Roof Repair company and ive seen this used by a home owner on a pipe flashing boot, but this stuff even if applied correctly does not last for very long, I would consider this a temp roof patch, nothing permanent, this can be fixed permanently by replacing the pipe flashing that's all the metal and boot around the pipe

Ok good to know. That was my roof in the video btw. I usually just pull the boot and put a new one on unless the roof material around it is in bad shape, brittle or it's really cold out and then it's time to do the quick fix to get them through till spring or their new roof whichever comes first. lol I had high hopes for this as they advertise it fixing gutters and outside items but after seeing how it performed I will not recommend this for anything but a temporary solution.

As a roofer. I Hate hearing that someone put flexseal down to patch a leak or flash a pipe. It doesn't last. And when you do go to fix it correctly the next time it can actually keep your repair from adhering. Causing the leak to continue.

I don't know who did the roof, I was up there to test a product not inspect the roof. If you think water is still not going to slide into that shingle and hit the nail your fucking idiot you're supposed to nail 3 on the top and one down at the bottom in the middle and you put caulk over it only reason why I consider this one installed incorrectly is because the metal flashing other pipe collar is going past a whole shingle itself that shingle supposed to be over the pipe collar with just a little bit of the pipe collar showing from being on top of the previous shingle I've gone behind roofers like you thousands of times who like to nail on the sides yeah those pipe collars leak within than 5 to 6 years

What a waste of time. Do you know that the neoprene boots can be bought at your local roofing supply . Caulk the top of the old one and then pull the new boot over the stack pipe. $3.00 versus 7.00. 5 minutes compared to 15 minutes . The boot tops never last more than 12 to 15 years. If the original install had been caulked on top with a urethane caulk then the sunshine UVRAYS would not dry the top out and crack. Larry Crookshanks 45 years on the roofs.

Flex Seal is horrible. It cakes. It dries out. It flakes off. It leaves voids...like dried bubbles. I would sue them, but it would mean sinking even more money into dealing with such a bad product. It splits, dries, cakes, and does not work. It does all of the bad shit it was not supposed to do.

you need to put a tiny piece of paper over the little holes so the Flex don't drip down it don't dry instant. If not applied with some common since it will not be full proof. It may look like it covered at first and you may say great it worked then never coming back to check your work then come back later and claim Flex is no good. Sometime a smart person will come back to check on his work especially when working on roof. Like the say when your cutting wood measure twice and cut once....

You never want to spray over a boot you need to replace it. Flex seal on shingles is no good

Flex seal does NOT work , I used it on my roof and less than a month it was all cracked and peeling off ! I used 3 cans of it.js

Don't make the effort of going on a roof just to put this crap on. Put a glob of silicone in the void. It will last MUCH longer! And don't listen to those people who saay it won't work on asphalt. Get the best stuff with superior or 7x/ lifetime adhesion. It works!

Just spray around crack or even better put roof cement around the crack. Advertising does work.

What you pay for a can of that stuff you could have bought a new boot. Do it right the first time.

Flex Seal if that is all you got but Silicone Caulk would be much neater and last much longer IMHO.

I agree, there are a lot of ways you can do a repair. This one I am not so happy with. I did a follow up review of how it held up after six months if you would like to see it just check my channel videos

Glenn Kayea Silicone will not hold up on a roof either but it will last longer then FlexSeal, but any homeowner doing a temp repair will end up costing more later by a professional needing to remove all the stuff you tried to fix the leak with

take a pick or cotter pin extractor and gently pull back the rubber, put butyl under such as liquid nail, then take a metal pipe strap, screw tight, clean off excess oozing butyl with acetone, then caulk with urethane like sikaflex. last 10+years available at hardware stores.

WWAAAAYYY to many words 3 minutes for a 15 second show. It says on the can to hold 12-18" away. I used it twice on gutters. Didn't help a bit (just a short time)
