Thanks, for the explanation, very thorough. My only suggestion would be to add the ability to hide the notification when the speakers go into ISS sleep mode. Small issue, but thought to mention it. Excellent guide and the new features are greatly appreciated!
Can't wait for my 8331's to arrive..... Bit worried GLM will not compensate the problems i have in too much level between 2.5 and 4khz. when i sweep with my current 8030c's those frequencies become really loud and maybe 6-7db or so. i dont worry about the low end as thats already pretty flat...... Lets find out soon hahahaha. Anyway my aim is better imaging as my ears are extremely sensitive to phasing. And truly hope point source will give me the same result with high frequencies with my head upright/straight while listening. Now when i lower my head to look a bit downwards the top end is truly amazing and i believe very accurate! but when i look forward/straight again lots of level above 7KHZ is lost and being smeared again........ Cheers and thanks for the great Video!
Thank you for posting the comment, and nice to hear about the 8331A's. We would appreciate if you can send us e-mail once you have listened them for few days, and hear about your experience. We can also help you with any tips for fine tuning the sound to your preferences, if you can send the setup to us as well. Our e-mail is support@genelec.com 🙏
@@genelec Sure i will do that……. I just want the “truth” with the sound, i don’t have a preference but just need to trust in what i hear, as now i hear so much that i cant believe for example that some songs from Celine Dion having such harsh and loud vocals! Also the level of details in my Room with the 8030c’s is already the same as i hear on My Sennheiser HD800s with HDV820 Amp……. So i wonder what “The Ones” can do even better 😂 I already can mix in Binaural as easy to hear things behind me like on the headphone. Thanks a lot for wanting to help me! Getting the best out of Home Studio! P.s I Don’t like, Dirac, sonarworks, Arc3 as they all sound unnatural. Only Trinnov Hardware has incredible natural corrections to my ears. Lets see what GLM will do…….
You are absolutely right! Why does neither the company nor anyone else tell the truth? The GLM program does nothing above 400Hz! What is the point of paying for all this (and separately for GLM)? What do you think about this friend?
@@sergeyleps8492 Hi, yes I understand your point! For me i have to say i trust Genelec and their decision not to compensate above 400hz as their is a technical reason probably why they do that. It seems they are not convinced with correcting above that frequency, so then don’t correct it! So i fully understand! When I sweeped my room with REW all seems pretty flat, but when just sweeping and listening myself from 2,5 up to at least 4khz becomes way louder to my ears. Could be fletcher munchen effect. My order will be delivered by the end of upcoming week so lets see what GLM measures……. Cheers bro!
@@sergeyleps8492 GLM is setting filters above 400 Hz, if it makes sense and is needed. We stop setting filters above 1 kHz. If you start compensating the upper mids and highs, your sweet spot will become very narrow, just because of the wavelengths of the frequencies. 100 Hz is a wavelength of 3,4 m - 1 kHz 34 cm - 10 kHz 3,4 cm ... So a single movement of your head would give you completely different results. GLM is completely free to use, only the GRADE report will become a paid option (if you need more than 12 reports). I wish ISS was more intelligent when it comes to digital input. It does not really work regarding audio/no audio, since most digital equipment leave a clock signal or similar on at all times. I have to cut the power to my bluesound node in to get ISS to activate sleep mode.
This is how it actually works - a clocking signal is seen as a signal and is not differentiated from the audio signal. But we'll share your feedback with our team. You can actually now use the new "Enable ISS with GLM online" function. This will only monitor the digital audio signal while GLM is running. Greetings!
Hi! The data rate on the GLM network is low, so all of these will work perfectly fine. Greetings! support.genelec.com/hc/en-us/articles/360013406619-Can-I-use-standard-CAT5-CAT5e-or-CAT6-Ethernet-cable-with-SAM-products
I'm happy to inform you that the 9320A also functions as a GLM interface, with many other features as well. However, unfortunately the 9101AM-B is not compatible with the 9320A. ☺
@@genelec Yes I recognized that when the update was released, that's great. But can you tell your developers to have a closer look at the code once more because sometimes it appears that the feature is malfunctioning and the volume does not match the volume knob when the system boots up. It's happening randomly and just started about two or three weeks ago. I had to check a few times whether the "Startup Level Enabled" feature was accidentally re-activated. But it wasn't. I am running Windows 11, latest version.
@@genelec Thanks for taking note of my comment. I did already contact the Genelec support over a month ago, but the issue is still pending. I think it's not a big deal for the software team to put an on/off switch there. As much as the 9310A impresses me, it's simply out of my budget for a "volume knob". So I am depending on the 9210B and I think there are more of my kind out there.
Just tell me please - if your GLM system can't compensate and equalize anything above 300/400Hz - then HOW to fix it? It's visible in your video (almost perfect graph from 400Hz to 20kHz). But in 98% of real people's rooms there will NOT be such a level situation. And all you suggest in your video is: "1) you should put the monitors on stands. 2) Look for other positions for the monitors. 3) Make more "traps" for reflections. It sounds like you are throwing their real problems at people. Then what can people really do with such expensive monitors? You didn't say anything - can your program (in manual mode) correct the ENTIRE spectrum from 400Hz to 20kHz? This is extremely IMPORTANT for buyers/users.
What AutoCal is doing is following the principles of physics. No calibration system will ever be able do deliver you a flat line from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. Because you cannot influence the time domain using filters. If a room is too reverberant, you must add absorption and bass traps, for example. What we suggest here is exactly what should be done: optimise the placement and add room treatment. Unfortunately, there is no other way of doing it. ;-) Our GRADE report gives you a detailed insight into all the different fields. Please feel free to contact us under support@genelec.com for further information! Greetings!
@@genelec Thank you for your detailed answer. I have another question (as do most new customers and users of your products). 1) You did not cover the topic of VOLUME. I also could NOT find this on your website. Namely: What volume should you set for your monitors - before starting to calibrate your GLM? No one says this. And your videos do not talk about this. After all, people can have COMPLETELY DIFFERENT volumes before starting the GLM calibration test. And this means that the tests will be completely DIFFERENT ! And the calibration will be DIFFERENT - because the effect on the room with different volumes will be different. HOW to choose the right volume before calibrating the GLM? 2) I couldn't find any information about which subwoofer is better for the 41 series and which for the 51 series? 3) Can we connect the subwoofer and monitors with separate cables from the audio interface? So as not to take the signal from the subwoofer to the monitors. And also - can we send a mono sum from the audio interface to 1 subwoofer? Will this be correct? 4) You don't talk about - HOW to correctly select the subwoofer volume in relation to your 41 and 51 models? How to understand when the subwoofer volume is sufficient? 5) What volume should be set on the subwoofer before starting calibration with the GLM system?
@@sergeyleps8492 I believe the calibration volume is set automatically by the speakers. Moreover, if you’re using a SAM system, GLM will take care of the sub/speaker balance. You simply use the Sound Character filter. As for the mono LFE signal, there are specific subs that have an LFE input. Simply check out the connectors.
@@thisiswhereiwatch Yes - their subwoofers have an LFE input. But I still do not understand WHAT it is and what is this input for? I read all their documents and there is nothing DETAILED and in normal Simple language does not explain what it is, and what it is for, and how to use it. A lot of their documents are misleading (for an inexperienced user)
@@sergeyleps8492 Hi Sergey! Would you be kind and send us e-mail at support@genelec.com and we can get back to you more in details. Also let us know what sound source you are using, and we will do our very best to help you.
