The time-based motion sensor charting method is brilliant. I’d love to see a chart overlaying door sensor data with temperature, for example, garage door and garage temp on the same chart. I’d love a video about embedding graphana charts in Lovelace or how to publish them to web pages (with and without controls to configure)
I love your videos. I installed the ESP8622 for checking the temperature in my freezer using your video. Amazing I got it on the first try. I was so happy I got it working I wanted to install Grafana and InfluxDB. I got lost at the 3:33 minute mark on getting into the terminal screen and editing the YAML file. How did you add the InfluxDB section in the YAML config file. Otherwise you are amazing, great work on helping people with HA. Being a ham operator myself I should know better. Thanks for any help..... HI, HI! 73's.
I am running home assistant on yellow. I want to install grafana but I don't have supervisor tab to go to. Do I have any option to add it to my system. I assume that InfluxDB and grafana ha to be installed on the pi that home assistant is on. Ray Knapp Thank you for your time.
I am just starting with HA and this is a bit over my head. There is just to much "I already did that" for the raw beginner. Granted I probably shouldn't be looking at Grafna if I am a raw beginner. So I hope you have some videos that are a little more basic step by step. I watch a couple more times and maybe I can pick it up. Also it would be helpful if when you mention something (like the weather station) you put a link in the description. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the comment and the tip. I definitely need to add links for things I talk about. The weather station is this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O9YIEJW/ Are there specific things you want to to in HA to get started? There are so many different ways you can go with it because everyone's setups are so different. Let me know what you want to do first and I will do my best to help with that.
I use the flume sensor from flumewater.com. I have the model that straps onto the water meter so I didn't need a plumber. It's been within 1 percent or less difference from what my water utility bills me for.
Awesome video!!! I got started with Grafana after watching Frenck's speed-run, but now I actually have some good looking graphs. There's one thing I can't figure out. If I follow your "outside" bar graph example, your Y axis has temps in 10 degree increments. What setting do I utilize to change the increments to e.g. 5 degrees?
I'm looking at my current temps on the graph and they are in 5 degree increments. I think this is all to do with the scale of the graph relative to the range of the values being displayed. You can experiment with Y-Min and Y-Max to also change the scale displayed in the y-axis. For example, if min is 10 and max is 120, my y-axis ends up being in 20 degree increments.
Your timing is great. I just published a video a couple of hours ago ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HQRIYMEXeHc.html. I talk about some sensors I get by calculation.
Really depends on the situation. The automation and other UI stuff in HA has come a long way. However, there is still some stuff that requires a little work with yaml. This video was made a bit ago so there are certainly some changes to the way I do things. Technology changes so fast. This is a case in which I need to do an update to see how different things are now.
@@mostlychris yeah awesome thanks. I'm fairly new to the whole home assistant stuff (Less than a week) but videos like this really help kick start nooobs like myself. Thanks heaps!
@@troyd-motorsport9933 You're welcome. Good luck in your journey and just remember to take it slow if you need. I built up my HA stuff over time and I learned as I went as well.
I'm a newbie to all of this, been at it for about 2 weeks now. I was trying to use Grafana with MariaDB because I had installed that for traccar and didn't see the point of having 2 different database packages. I didn't get very far so am now trying the InfluxDB. I'm getting stuck at restarting the HA server after editing the configuration.yaml file with the influxdb: entry. Getting this message in the log file: Invalid config for [influxdb]: some but not all values in the same group of inclusion 'authentication' @ data['influxdb'][]. Got None. (See /config/configuration.yaml, line 60). I'm wondering if the problem is the host: where I've just got that bit from the URL when in the InfluxDB dashboard. Everything is running on a Raspberry Pi4. Grateful for any clues. Thanks/
@@mostlychris. I'm still stumped. Here's the code block influxdb: host: a0d7b954-influxdb port: 8086 database: homeassistant user: grafanauser password: !secret influxpwd max_retries: 9 default_measurement: state The error message mentions Authentication - none of that stuff is here though. Thanks for looking. Graham.
