I have this on a Dell laptop with a 1 TB hard drive & 32GB SSD. It's amazingly fast! At the current price of SSD's I don't see a good reason to have an "SSD only" system unless you have unlimited funds or power consumption is a major concern. Once the system learns the programs & data you use most often, it will blow your socks off. Almost everything I load takes less than 1 seconds. GET THIS FEATURE!!! (I'm not a shill, just a satisfied consumer)

Well, it depends on if you have an mSATA SSD or non-SSD. Also, if you only have one hard drive and it is an SSD, then Smart Response won't really benefit you. Smart Response is for using the speed of a solid state drive combined with the large storage space of a mechanical drive. So when applications are open and the same files used often, the SSD is in use, but when you are saving personal files and installing new apps, that is stored on the mechanical drive.

I'm getting two new drives in a couple days and just want to be sure of this. It is fine for the OS to be in the SSD and the HDD to be blank and ready for caching, yes? I don't have to do anything differently?

So question, if I got a 256gb msata, could I have it use the 19gb for the smart response and use the other 220gb or whatever it ends up being for file storage? Or does it all become unusable when it is setup for smart response?

I'm trying to add 32GB m.2 ssd as a hdd cache using intel rapid storage / intel smart response. Both drives (main hdd and ssd) are visible in bios and in device manager, ssd drive is not partitioned (as it should be) but caching option isn't available. I believe sata mode needs to be changed in bios from AHCI to RAID before caching option becomes available in Intel Rapid Storage Application. My problem is that the only option available in bios is AHCI (no IDE or RAID listed there). Probook 450 G2, k9k47et, bios version 1.16A1, Windows 7 64bit Any Clues?

You need to have a Solid State hard drive for the 19GB part. Smart response balances the mSATA drive storage with the SSD speed of processing.

I believe your processor is compatible, but it also depends on what chipset you have and if you have both a Solid State Drive and a mechanical hard drive.

Wait really? But the video says it uses the hdd for storage and msata for the speed and smart response functionality doesn't it?

The whole smart response thing is for a system with TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT Hard Drives.1 Large, Slow, NON-SSD Storage Hard Drive & 1 Small, Fast, SSD Hard Drive This technology tracks what app's from the SLOW Non-SSD Large Storage HDD are used most and stores them in the FAST SSD Very Small mSATA drive A 256GB SSD mSATA you just install your O/S and all program's to it. You don't need a 19GB partition. That's for ppl whose O/S is on a Slow HD but have a 2nd Fast but small SSD HD (eg. 32gb)

I believe Intel Rapid Storage Technology (or Smart Response Technology) is causing my data to be unreadable. I bought an HP Laptop in 2021, the HP Victus 16.1" 11800H / RTX 3060 (d0097nr), and it came with an Intel Optane H10 512GB SSD. This is a hybrid SSD that uses a 32GB Optane cache with a 512GB SSD, and it came with Intel RST pre-installed on the laptop. After less than 2 years of use, the laptop began to freeze and get BSODs, until finally the SSD just stopped being detected. I've tried using various data recovery methods and apps, but no matter what computer I install the Intel SSD into, it only shows the Optane cache part, not the 512GB data. I've asked HP for support on this, but they told me repairing it would cost me $500, and I absolutely cannot afford that. I know there has to be a way to recover the data somehow, but I just can't find any way to get a computer to detect the drive because this Intel RST driver thing just isn't working. Can anyone help me?
