Fantastic! Word of warning though. Get a S61 Mk2 with Komplete Standard and wire it up to Ableton and your life is pretty much over. Forget socializing, studying or work. 20 hours a day, falling asleep at the desk. It gets you like that. Forget dusty books on Music Theory. You will learn it all on a wet Sunday morning and with the infinite combination/permutation of samples, it makes it a pleasure.
With the S49 All the dedicated buttons such s browse work fine with Komplete Kontrol in stand-alone mode but if you open Komplete Kontrol in your DAW they don't always work. It's got a mind of its own. It's useless!
Great for DAWs and Komplete Kontrol (and to a certain extent - Kontakt too), but as an actual MIDI keyboard controller for external gear - it's kinda useless unless you trick it. For example - Arp and Chord modes are disabled over MIDI - you can only access them with the KK software open. Unlike say a Keystep Pro where you just "plug it in". You can just about get around it by opening the DAW then opening KK software with no instrument loaded on whatever track, set the KK hardware as midi out in the DAW, then route MIDI from the DAW via an external MIDI controller to the external hardware and route the audio from that back into another track... it shouldn't be this hard when there's literally a MIDI port on the back. Even using the 15v power with MIDI - it's just a basic keyboard with mod and pitch wheels when used with external gear.

I wish I'd looked harder before going with Nektar (which i have since returned due to hardware failure). Subsequently started using Novation, but I might just get one if these should i find myself in need of another controller setup. Great stuff!

I use Ableton and Cubase. Is it possible to set it up to where it maps to whatever daw I am using at the time Without changing settings everytime I use it? Basically would like it to work with both and automatically connect when I open either of the daws
Hey I have a question. When I’m in preferences I can’t select Komplete Kontrol DAW 1 like Brian does I can only select KOMPLETE KONTROL EXT-1 or KOMPLETE KONTROL - 1. Is that the same thing? And I also have the push pad mapped out in the preferences so I’m not sure if that makes a difference? And also my keyboard works but all the other buttons like play and record don’t work if I press them on the keyboard. They only work on the push pad (I have the push 2). So I’m wondering if this has anything to do with my preferences?? If someone can help would be great thanks!
I’m not able to access any if my plugins on the actual keyboard. They’re not recognized on the keyboard and I have to manually pull them up on the computer. Anybody have any idea how to work around?
the input selection for me is grey and wont drop down when I click it, I cant get my komplete kontrol s61 to work. My friend tried with her mac, there were no issues whatsoever but on my computer it just wont show up.
Dear NI, what about automatic parameter mapping? The S61 MK2 has 8 knobs, why don't they automatically map to the 8 ableton macro parameters? Also for the quantization, can you use the quantization amount that's already set in ableton? 100% Quantization is unusuable for me.
Komplete control Daw 1 won't come up for me as an option for input and output. It only brings up the controller as an option. Which step did I skip lol?
I just got a new Komplete Kontrol A61, installed all the software the setup page told me to but the "Komplete Kontrol DAW - 1" option under input and output simply doesn't exist. So while the basic keyboard works I can't use any of the advanced functions. I've been searching for a solution but all I find on the internet is the same basic instructions that I've already followed. How would you recommend going about this?
Hello, I am using kontrols61mk2 and when I connect to the computer, the instrument gets disconnected and the computer does not recognize it. So even if I try to upgrade by installing firmware, it doesn't work. In this case, will it be solved if I buy an audio interface cable and connect it instead of the USB terminal? I'm Korean, so please understand if the translation is weird. Please help me. Thank you...!
hey guys, quick question here. Just bought my first Komplete Kontrol S61 and running into mapping issues. My mapping looks exactly like how Brian shows us in this video, but Ableton treats the record, play, and other buttons (on the S61 keyboard) as musical notes. When I press them, they play a note as if they were a piano key. Also, the piano keys make no sound at all when I press them. My mapping "looks" right according to Brian, but I can't figure this out for the life of me. I'm turning to RU-vid to try to figure this out hahah any help here?
Hello, i have bought the Komplete Kontrol a61, somehow iam not figering out how i can map parameters from my daw to to the a61, i found out that the 8 parameters on the keyboard are connected to the velocity of each track in my DAW Ableton., but iam not able to change them, i watched alot tutorials and even ableton handbook.... maybe you can help me would be gartefull for tips have a nice day

Hi, a quick question, I forgot what scale mode was selected but if I select the scale mode that plays Chords with one note, will all the notes be recorded as MIDI in Ableton or just the one note that I pressed. The same with only playing the notes in that scale? If I hit a wrong note but the Keyboard plays the right one because I’ve set it to scale mode, will Ableton record the right note, or the wrong one that I pressed? Thx in advance!
I love it, but with the amount of instruments browsing via the keyboard needs to be updated, it takes too long to scroll e.g. to Noir. There has to be more prefiltering than comoany/type.
How do you drag out of komplete kontrol onto a new midi track in ableton? It won't allow me to do that for some reason. I've been using a new komplete kontrol on every track. Is that overkill?? Thanks!
Just got lucky to find the ultraviolet one in a store. The first one had quality control issues l, the second one is better, but a few keys are loud as hell and the mod wheel scratches . Curious what the answer of support is. Either way I love the keyboard. Now the big question: Do I still need to load the ableton rack like the manual says ? I did everything like the manual says but something’s off. You don’t talk about any of the steps in the manual ( the rack and the scripts whatever they are called ). Does that mean these steps are not necessary anymore in live 11? Also the tracks are not arming automatically when I select them with the rotary knob. Also how do I get the light guide to keep the color I like and I set and save in the standalone kk? It only works when I press midi mode on the keyboard. Is that supposed to work like that ? Like I have no way of setting the light guide to other color than that blue? My eyes have a problem with blue light. Please answer this if it’s possible as im confused, more than anything about the scripts and that live Rack. Thanks.
Thanks Brian, I was about to get Ableton with 'Push'. I've been without a working DAW for over eight months or so. My laptop with Cubase 10.5 had to be repaired around June '21. It came back without Cubase 10.5, and so I took the laptop and a new desktop into a store to get Cubase 11, the s-88 Komplete keyboard and the Native Ultimate Collectors Edition, so I had the most complete selection of sounds, orchestra, ethnic etc with multiple string articulations etc. As I had free assistance with the shop staff two years ago using remote viewing over the phone, I asked if the shop could download the many Gigs of data for all of this, as I live in an area where the Internet goes off with a rainfall. After nearly three months with the laptop and desktop in the shop, a bill of $480 came for the work done [over the costs for the hardware and software.] I have disabilities and wasn't well enough to do this myself. My computer 'nerd' friends had gone. I tried to set it up for Christmas, but the heat in Brisbane, Queensland Australia only brings me narcolepsy even with a fan on. When it cooled down, I found I couldn't get all the free VST with Cubase to come up, or get the Komplete instruments up. With Covid, by new year, I had near zero friends, no-one could handle face-to-face visits etc. Most of my family and friends had died. A friend, by phone, who could sing, said he was interested in music again, but his widow rang me two months after his funeral. I was then stuck in another state on my own, having a second attempt at keeping a class at university before it shut down for Covid, or floods. This year, I had to wait seven days after a second vaccination before they let me on the university grounds. However, the only course is with Ableton Live. I missed the beginning of the first class and from then on never work out how to assign Push to Ableton, get the second view, etc. etc. Was it Apple or Ableton that was so different in appearance from Cubase. I have to take in my laptop [ and maybe desktop] computers into the shop again to get Cubase running with the keyboard and UCE. And to keep my university class, I'm buying another laptop with Ableton - but in a different shop. I was about to get a bundle with push. I don't know if I can get a student discount with Push. And I will also get a new Cubase 12 - without even getting to use Cubase 11. I'm wondering if I can get a third copy of Komplete for this laptop. I have [hopefully] the whole UCE library on a two Terabyte external SSD. Thanks for showing me the 'simplest' of things - that I could not work out. For example that there is a hidden pulldown forgetting the preferences. The university course tutor would only show us once and just emailed me to say that I had to be attentive in class. I have continuous micro-sleeps, visual difficulties [need the ceiling lights off], am on the autistic spectrum [can't handle one student banging loudly on his Push - it doesn't need such a banging does it?] ADD, PTDS, life-threatening illnesses and I'm 61. The last Covid vaccine has almost made thinking impossible, exacerbating my iatrogenic auto-immune conditions. I read before Ableton opens that there is a 'help' suggesting that appearance changed can be made to the screen. Another student brings in his PC, and it isn't that plain grey, but a darker colour. In Cubase, I though we could personalise the 'background' colours etc. Does Ableton have something similar. Compared to the appearance of Cubase views, Ableton just looks very grey. For some, colouring various things, such as different tracks in many shades etc. is helpful - when there is an orchestra of instrumentation.
In case you read this, NI, for the next Kontrol keyboards I would greatly appreciate drum pads on the keyboard and sliders together with knobs to have more options for adjustments. Maybe you could also recreate the different weights of the keys on your next keyboard?
when i try to load a plugin in komplete kontrol* it says: "plugin not found. Please open the standalone app to rescan, or rescan manually in the plugin preferences." done that nothing changed! any idea how to fix that?
Brian, I am on a 90 day trial with LIVE I now only have 70 days although I have been able to get my MK2 set up to live , am totally lost as to laying down drums etc that Live holds , as I am very new to all of this I'm am lost , and the videos from you are good they seem to assume you have some basic knowledge of both DAW and or the keyboard, I have neither , I am hoping you could or have done a more total beginners series please ?!? Also I am using windows 10 not apple !

Got my new s49 mk2 today. Out of the box, following your tutorial serval time I simply can not get my kk to switch between different instruments in tracks, click left or right visibly select different track but Ableton is not arming selected track. Are you able suggest what is wrong please? I have checked firmware & confirm it’s up to date.

Go to Ableton's preferences and about 1/2 way down you'll see a tab labeled Plug-ins. Make sure the VST2 and VST3 Plug-in system folder is turned on. It make take a minute for the plugins list to populate as Ableton scans your plugins folder.
@@NativeInstruments tried for the m32 running Big Sur if you could specify what operating system for Mac and version of protools it was tested on that would help. 👍🏾
hi, when i'm using chord mode in komplete kontrol - how i can capture all of the midi notes in ableton instead of just seeing the played trigger notes ?
@@Btone33 honestly I’d recommend just buying Scaler 2 as it’s a fairly cheap plugin and wayyyyy more flexible and does 100x what komplete chord mode does
@@Btone33 do you have scaler or scaler 2? They added way more to scaler 2 it’s worth the upgrade. Takes awhile to learn all the features but there’s lots of good tutorials on RU-vid
