Hey Andy, this was a really great tutorial (as are your others) - thanks! I do have a question I hope you could help me with on this issue. I'm close to completing a dashboard but I'm very stuck on trying to figure out how to get a previous quarter based on data filtered for a specific quarter (with other filters available, like Market, Business Unit and Year) I've tried PREVIOUS_VALUE, LOOKUP and a couple of date functions, but it nothing seems to be working properly. It seems like the trick is that I'm filtering values, so I can't access the built-in YoY Growth calculation that I could then tweak to Quarter. For my purpose, I'd like users to filter on the above variables, so that they could see Totals Units Sold (for example) for say, Quarter 3, Year 2023, US Market, Business Unit X, AND I'd like to show the QoQ Growth by accessing Quarter 2's Total Units Sold for all the same filters. Do you have any ideas on how to tackle it? Many thanks in advance!

I had to do the similar thing instead prior I needed the next month. I created a parameter and bring the difference of that parameter(current month). So of you select July, it will populate June, July and August.

Hi Andy, Is it possible to create a LOB calculation to compare dates. For example, I want to compare sales data from 8/2/2018 vs 6/15/2018, 8/2/2018 vs 6/10/2018, 8/2/2018 to 6/01/2018, etc.

Great tutorial Andy. I'm still struggling to get how to construct calculations in Tableau. Are you familiar with R? If so, is it correct to assume that Tableau as R works with vectorized operations? Meaning that I can consider each variable (column) in my data as a vector and my Calcs evaluate each one of the members of the variable?

Hi Andy, thanks for this video, how if we want to change the measure (in your video as 'Sales') to the list of calculation that we have in parameter?
@vizwiz

You will need to write a calculation that returns the values selected from the parameter and then replace sales with this new calc.

However, you never know what the latest Orderdate is. Hence today() won't probably work.

Simone Magagnini Can you share the formula for both parameter and calculated field? Thanks
@magagsi
@magagsi 6 лет назад
Hi Marc, not sure this is what you need and maybe there are better ways to do it...I am NOOOOOO EXPERT...but it works for me: my scenario: My Actual Expenditure is of course fixed but I need to compare them against different months of Forecast which fluctuates every month...so I needed 12 months to compare (and a filter to do the comparison but only changing forecast keeping actuals as is)... 1st I created a Parameter called "MONTH FORECAST " where data type is Integer then list value where 1 is displayed as January , 2 as February, so on until 12 for December Then 12 calculated fields (I think there might be a better way to do this...perhaps 1 field with all 12 months but I am NO expert and it was a quick fix for me... it works fine though ... specially when I have to compare one month vs another...I also dont have issues with grand totals, etc... so for each calculated field I named each by the month it refers to...this one is named "Forecast January" for example: IF DATEDIFF('month', DATETRUNC('month', [Month]), {MIN (DATETRUNC('month', [Month]))})=0 THEN [Forecast] END changing = 0 to 1, 2, 3, etc...that will correspond to the sequence of the months .. then a final calculated field called "FORECAST" only - using case formula linking to the parameter and the other 12 calculated fields returning values from my forecast column: CASE [MONTH FORECAST] WHEN 1 THEN SUM([Forecast January]) WHEN 2 THEN SUM([Forecast February]) WHEN 3 THEN SUM([Forecast March]) WHEN 4 THEN SUM([Forecast April]) WHEN 5 THEN SUM([Forecast May]) WHEN 6 THEN SUM([Forecast June]) WHEN 7 THEN SUM([Forecast July]) WHEN 8 THEN SUM([Forecast August]) WHEN 9 THEN SUM([Forecast September]) WHEN 10 THEN SUM([Forecast October]) WHEN 11 THEN SUM([Forecast November]) WHEN 12 THEN SUM([Forecast December ]) END then grab the last calculated field and drop into column field along with my actuals...then I show parameter to filter the forecast and start building my graphs.... I hope experts dont see this...as I mentioned I am pretty sure there are BETTER ways but until I find that better way... this works good :) hope it helps you!
