We decided to try a few cable pulling lubricants. Some conventional and some not.

Years ago we had stuck cables in a conduit, and we poured the washing-up liquid in for a time they came out easy. UK spark

I enjoyed your video and appreciate your hard work. Never would have thought of using powder. In the elevator trade, we don't run wires all day every day but most guys would rather struggle than use wire lube. Not sure why. Works for me.

I had occasion once where I was pulling 4 * 16mm SDI through 60 run on a wall. Figured it was a straight run and probably wouldn't need lube. I got about 50 metres and didn't like the idea of pulling them out. I used compressed air to blow powder through. Problem solved.

In the US we need a pull box or pull point for every 360 degrees. Basically, you can't legally do more than 4 ninety degree bends in a row without a wire pulling access point. Then if you have another 5 or more nineties, you's have to put another pull point. We use junction boxes, LBs, etc. As far as lube, I use Ideal brand wire lubricant. I put some on the wire, and keep applying more as more wire is pushed in. I have used it for long runs in excess of 100 feet.

I can't think of a occasion when you would need 360° this is more to show what can be done. Cheers

@@gunsparky It happens a lot here when running EMT conduit (electrical metal tubing) on walls and ceiling in warehouses and things like that for long runs. Often there are obstructions, so every turn and offset adds to the degree count. It can also happen with PVC conduit when coming out of a main panel outside in the back or side yard. Sometimes we need to make a 90 out of the panel, a 90 into the dirt, two 90s around the corners of a house to get to another side. In that case we usually stub up and put a box somewhere in between. Cheers.

If using PVC underground try cheap rv anti freeze. Environmentally safe, slippery than snot.

Cable lube enabled us to pull a cable more than 40 metres through some ridiculous underground twists and turns in a buried conduit. Highly recommended and it dried off within a couple of hours leaving no residue on the cable. The installation engineer warned us that some washing up liquids can eat into the cable covering....
@gunsparky

Yeah that is true. This is just an experiment. I should do another one. Cheers

Which lube would you recommend that won’t eat into the cable covering ?

How about dielectric grease??

You keep applying it to the wire for long runs as you feed it in just like all lubes.
