Using Tape In The Thumb Hole + More! -  

I end up having to use so much of that tape. One day my thumb is falling out early. Another day a little breath in the thumb hole is enough. But one thing is sure get a few different thicknesses. Sometimes you're right on the line between dropping the ball and having it go down the lane with your thumb in it.

I drill my own hole 2 bit sizes larger. 1-1/64 and this allows exactly 3 pieces of white tape. Remember not all white tapes have the same feel. Sides or release edges of the thumb I use smooth texture white from and in the pad I use a tackier white. Definitely a preference on the snugness. If it's really cool and dry and the thumb is at its smallest I prefer a snugger fit. Humid swollen and hot then looser fit. Thanks for the great Vid. I'll keep sharing!

I used to go through about 100-150 pieces of tape per year. Then I changed to IT thumbs and now I probably use 20 pieces a year. I had several different size thumbs drilled for me and I swap them when I'm feeling up or down in size rather than using tape. I also shim my fingers like Phil. TIP: If you use a lot of thumb tape, use one piece in the front like Phil says, and any additional pieces for fit go in the back or the sides. This is so that you don't increase your span when you're tightening the fit. This is also why I only shim my fingers in the back.

I use tape in thumb hole as well using 3 different thumb tapes from fast release, medium and slow release to get the right feel.

I have been using thumb tape on my thumb recently, because I swell nearly every time during a 3 game League, and it is super easy to take it off my thumb, but I also have had white tape inside the bowling ball for grip, particularly during the winter. The shimming of the fingers is something I have seen before, but never really used it.

I used to tape my thumb hole, but if you had to remove the tape, for whatever reason, I didn't like the residue that would be left behind. I now tape my thumb instead. When you use cleaning fluid on a ball during a match, it creates issues. However, just cleaning your thumb doesn't create problems with other bowlers.

Phil, ppl were telling me that I was doing it wrong putting tape in my thumb hole. I did it just like you do. They told me to put it on the top of my thumb and the bottom of my thumb is to feel the thumb hole.? I still do it like you just showed

I don't use my thumb but I watched anyway! I want my finger holes to be loose so I can stay behind the ball better and I'm already cupping the ball so don't have to worry about holding on in the back swing.

You could also use the slithers of tape method for your on thumb tape as well, which i def do not see other than myself doing it

I use ¾ inch tape and it works much better for my thumb size. I also like to have only one or two textured stripes in the front so I can snug the hole up by putting black stripes in the back. Then I put some smooth slide on my thumb so I can use the thumb hole as tight as possible without worrying about getting stuck :D

I'm the weirdo using red Hada patch to keep the thing from sticking completely, plus painters' tape because the texture is between white and black thumbhole tape 😅

I hate my thumb. I’m swollen (width -wise) before I start, I press my thumb sides in until I can get it in the hole. Then as I’m playing my thumb shrinks and I fall out of the ball and need tape.

Where did Phil's pinky ring go? Lost it to Rudy in an action match?
