That pg 38 piece at the beginning always reminded me of Miles Davis or Wes Montgomery's version of "Surrey with The Fringe On Top"

This is really cool! It deserves going viral. Plus, you’re getting a real good sound from the V-drum. That’s amazing. I’m sure you’re a good player on the acoustic. You’re Implementing acoustic touch and technique on V-drums, while many just hit the hell out of the Poor v-drum and sound awful on the acoustic Syncopation is such a Great book! Thank you for your awesome video. I’ll be looking forward to seeing more Ted Reed Syncopation videos from you. Cheers!

Thanks. I may do more videos like this. The majority of my videos are on acoustic drums.

Very, very nice, Joe. I especially liked when you used it as accents on triplets, which became, in a way "sixteenth note triplets." It's like what you did at the finale of "Sing, Sing, Sing." BTW, I knew the author Ted Reed. Visited him in Sarasota, Florida with my drumming partner Russ Moy. Ted was a disciple of Billy Gladstone, the great Radio City drummer and drum inventor. Blessings tovyou on your Billy Joel Tribute Band gig. Sounds fantastic. Anyway, Joe... you executed this cleanly and crisply. Beautiful playing.

Wow! Knowing Ted Reed is pretty cool. Guys like him, Gladstone, Moeller, Charlie Wilcoxon, George Stone, Jim Chapin & Joe Morello laid the foundation for so many drummers and their books are like drumming bibles. I met Joe Morello a few times who I admired so much over the years. A real nice guy. His left hand still amazes me.

I feel you bro! It’s hard to find a decent spot for drums but in the closet, without to get anybody angry at you 😅.

Clean playing. Clear and uncluttered video presentation. Great job. I'm just a hobbyist and have found that a good way to initially start out this kind of thing is by isolating a single bar and repeating it. Using the rhythms on just the cover alone works nicely for that purpose. My example is doing a straight 8th note cymbal ride with chick-boom-boom on the bottom and using the rhythms to cross stick on the snare to develop a fair to middlin' ability to riff and noodle a bosa nova feel. P.S. I love my Roland TD17 e-kit too. I hadn't considered using my laundry for acoustical purposes but I might check it out. ;)

Thanks for your comments..This Roland kit provides an easy way to record and present drumming ideas and exercises. I wish I would've cleaned up my basement area before recording this video..lol..I kinda rushed to get this video done right away. I've since got rid of the mess....Thanks for watching.

Hi Joe, awesome video! I was wondering if you had any copyright issues with using the Syncopation book in your video? I'd like to reference exercises throughout a video series that I'll be doing and am worried about running into problems.

I have not had any problems. Since it’s only one page, I doubt there will be any issues. I’m actually promoting the book. Thanks for watching.

Great playing, what are you doing with the bass drum at 1:19-1:21? Sounds great and trying to replicate? Is it notated somewhere? Sounds like a drag/ruff..... super video
@JoeNocella
@JoeNocella 4 года назад
Thanks..I believe you are referring to measures 3 & 4 on the top line. I'm not hitting any extra notes with the bass drum or anything, I'm just playing the bass drum on every other note. The first few notes of measure 3 are: "1, 2, 3& " I'm playing the bass drum on "1" snare on "2" bass drum on "3" snare on "&" of 3, then the bass drum on the "&" of 4. Just alternating every note between snare and bass drum to change it up. You can always slow it down if you need. I use it all the time on Buddy Rich videos..On the bottom right of the video, go to Settings - Playback Speed then either ".75" or ".5".
