What do you think of the Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge? Were they underrated? Was the hate justified due to the removal of so many classic features? Personally I understand why fans were mad and I think it was a good thing with the S7 bringing a lot of stuff back like expandable storage. In the very least though the S6 Edge is a gorgeous smartphone and it was fun to take a look at it so many years later. Join the discord! --- discord.io/91tech
The gold s6 edge is the prettiest phone I have ever seen, period. I don't care about the bezels. The gold and the glass design are stunning. But I guess a gold s7 looks identical while being superior.
@@seanlee1355 imo only for some phones. like for iPhones, I'd much rather have the bezels. but a lot of android manufacturers made phones with ugly bezels. personally I still think that the gold s6 looks nice with the bezels.
Ya but the peel app is absolute garbage now. It literally secretly used over 30 gb of data in a month. Which makes me think it was just constantly sending out my info to advertisers
The S6 Edge was my 1st Android phone and when I switched to it from an iPhone 6S I was blown away. I loved it SOOO much and once I switched to Galaxies I never went back to iPhone. The S6 edge is responsible for that.
I did the same only I went from iPhone 4 to S3. However once I used Nexus phones and eventually Pixel phones I came to absolutely loathe Samsung’s software experience.
I remember testing the s6 when it came out in stores and was pleasantly surprised to finally see a Samsung phone perform well and not lag. The UI was also much nicer. Got the S7 next year and that ran really well as well for a while, but the phones still didn’t age too well when it came too software updates and once the battery got degraded the phone felt extremely slow. Still S6 was a good turning point and I could finally recommend Samsung phones for those that liked it’s features and still wanted a phone that performs well enough. Also had a S8 and S10 and those aged much better
I got one installing hadesrom (android 9.0) and surprisingly it runs well indeed. All the functions work fine (except camera, it still works but sometimes it opens slowly and can't be used in some apps like messenger). It even has Dex support too
Tbh no one really installs custom roms and it's headache using them. No one wants to waste time trying their best to modernise their phone, they'd rather use their time on their kids or leisure and relaxing in life.
@@MrIDGAF speak for yourself, try saying that exact same sentence but substituting “no one uses Linux“. Some people like tinkering with this sort of thing.
@@jdatlas4668 True, but it’s such a small minority. I’ve never met anyone that does tinkering bs. You hear about RU-vid commentators doing it, but nobody in rl. Me and defo others don’t want to install custom Roma every like 5 months because I’d rather be spending time with my family or relaxing
@@TomerShemesh Yeah the outdated design, Micro-USB port and power-hog components make this a redundant phone. The specs should still make it usable, however.
@@Generationalwealth94 Naa, outdated processor, diminished battery, small screen, no water resistance, only one bad non sterio speaker at the buttom, no expandable storage, only 1 outdated camera, it's stuck on android 7.0, low peak brightness no 5G, no 120hz... Should I go on?.. Sure it's usable, but heck, you can say that about the galaxy S1 too... As long as it's working and it has access to the internet, it's usable, but it ain't going to be a fun experience
I had s6 edge few years back, the best part about this phone was its beautiful and unique whenever i took out the phone in public people would just stare at it
I owned an S6 edge back in the days, not that bad. But as soon as S7 came to the markets, I was so intrigued to switch to that, that I bought a used one from one of my friends.
You can always replace the battery. I had that same problem with my s7 edge, it also overheated alot but after i replaced the battery it solved all the issues i had.
Bought the edge version of this bad boy used in 128GB and used it from 2017 (put a new battery in 2018) to 2019 and loved it. Swapped it with a Pixel 3 which died so I used it again for a few months this year. Thing was awesome (it's my favorite design although I wish the back was curved too) and easily the best android phone from 2015. Battery life was subpar for a while and it definitely fell off when I used it this year. I did drop it in a toilet once on a drunk New Year's but it ended up ok since it was in a battery case. I replaced it since Google Maps and Spotify together were too intense on it in the car (didn't reset it much). I upgraded to a Pixel 4a 5G which is an outstanding phone. Also remember that 2015 was the year of Qualcomm's TERRIBLE Snapdragon 810 chips which made every other flagship android phones horrendously hot with terrible battery life.
mine s6 died years ago because of little bath on table with few splashs of Coke . however , till this day for me is still one of most beautyfull phone designs ever .
Loved the S6. Used it until late 2019. It was great, but the battery wasn't too good. The S7 may have been a great upgrade, but I got the S6 since it is lighter and I really liked that blue color.
S6 really changed the game for Samsung, but it was hated because it removed a lot of features that Samsung had before, and bettery life was never great. It's the first ever Samsung phone that moved away from plastic and that design was just beautiful at the time. I remember that I wanted it so much but it was so expensive here and I never got it.
one of my all time favourite phones, used to be my dream to buy, looking at it being sold for 60$ used online from retail price of like 500$ in my country is just, fascinating, feels like yesterday man, watching this phone's promotion on TV
My best friend had the S6 till earlier this year and she used to love this phone. But as the time went on, she started to hate the phone more and more due to the storage not being expandable as well as the battery life (Which really was awful at the end. She managed to kill the phone in literally 15 minutes.) Personally I also hated the S6. The phone was so bad, because it removed the features you mentioned, but that's not all. If you take the same picture on the S5 and the S6, you notice, that the S5's photo looks better than the S6's. Yes, you read right. The S5 has a better camera, USB 3.0 (The S6 went back to USB 2.0) and so on. The S5 was the better phone by far in my opinion. But what I really like about the S6 (And in this regard also the S7) is the design of the phone. That's great.
I had this one! I loved everything about it other than the battery. The battery sucked to be honest and ended up getting the iPhone 6s which was fun talking about two. I had a 6s and a s6 😜
i own my s6 edge plus, bought it at release with the vr heaset and it still holds to this day, had to change the battery but it wasnt a expensive fix since i dont plan on changing phones any time soon
I had this phone from release for about 3 years. Still my favourite phone I have ever owned. I had the gold standard model and always loved the design and screen, people would always comment on it all the time. I dropped it in some hot water though and it was toast after that. I was surprised to find out it got so much hate, but in retrospect I can see why it did.
My uncle is still using this phone without any problem and its camera is very superb while comparing with the latest flagship phones such as Oneplus 7t,Iphone 10 etc ... High battery draining is the only problem which my uncle have faced from that phone. He owned s6 before 6 years. But i think s6 is not still outdated.❤️
still using the s6 in 2023 been since it came out in 2015. still preforms great it is very fast and actually has a good battery life. I am happy with it and have no intend to replace it still
This S6 has served me perfectly since 2016, only the battery is not as good as it used to be, so I often have a power bank with me. Despite its age, the Galaxy S6 has a very good camera that is even comparable to the 2021 mid-range smartphone cameras.
I had this phone for a long time since 2016 all the way to early 2020 then I saved up money and bought myself a OnePlus 8 Pro, have never regretted the decision since.
Well, I´m currently using an S7 edge (don´t like the edges neither, but the phone was for free from my grandpa) and stil this thing makes it 1 1/2 days, but coming from my grandpa tells how the battery still is so good. I´m also looking into xda for third party software upgrades, the hardware sure has quite some life left in it.
I never liked the curved sides either! This year made me sooo happy when the s21 plus was released :) I missed the flat screen of my s6 sooo much, and I'm glad samsung returned to there roots giving us a choice once again!
It's crazy how good the iPhone 6s is today, despite releasing the same year as the Galaxy S6, the iPhone 6s is still on the latest iOS and is actually really good speed wise. I'm not an apple fanboy or anything, but comparing the S6 to the 6s is laughable, it's just embarrassing.
yeah i agree on the updates part but samsung seemed to have fixed the updates on their phones since 2019, also if someone wanted to use their phone for like 6+ years, i recommend they install a custom rom, the ip6s wouldlnt stand a chance against it in that case, also the s6 should be compared to the iP6 (which just got one more major update after the s6), not 6S..
I remember how horrible the battery life was on my s6 back in the day, really ruined my experience with the phone which was a shame cause it's such a beautiful phone
I had an S6 back in the day and loved it for the screen, fingerprint sensor, the camera and the looks. Later gave it to my mother and she has had it until last week. Got her a new mobile since she found that the battery was lasting too little, which ironically it is something that many already said at day one of ownership back in 2015... I got the S6 back to have it as a spare and good thing that long ago I bought a case with battery (which my mother never liked nor used) and now I'm sort of enjoying it so many years later. The QHD AMOLED screen is quite nice and it isn't very fast but fast enough to use with a tiny bit of patience, it still is more powerful than some low range mobiles that you can buy new today. Software certainly is outdated, Android 7 and even worst a security patch from June 18... Hard to understand a security patch that outdated in a flagship phone when the very same Samsung released last security patch for their low range tablet TAB A6 (2016) in April 2020. They gave a low range device an extra year over a flagship one, makes little sense. I installed the Nova Launcher with a modern icon pack so at least looks fresher.
I had the s6 when it first came out it was a good phone but sold it in 2017 since then i had the s7 s8 s10 plus and now 2 months ago i got the samsung s20 FE thats the phone i use now.
Why add a feature and then take it away? Water resistance, in a prior model but not a newer one? That aside, the main reason I stray away from Samsung is due to their lack of long term support. This phone shows my point exactly. Also, my ex had one of these, maybe the "active" model? It wasn't terrible, but tended to get hot, and also screen burn-in was obvious. I could see where the notifications and keyboard sit quite clearly.
I had both a samsung galaxy s6 and s6 active and the were both very nice phones but, I have to say samsung could have done a bit more with them. But, I loved both the s6 and the s6 active. I actually loved the old version of the phones but, it's pitty that they couldn't have upgraded to the latest versions like the iphone but, I love samsung they are fantastic and I think that they do much better today. The weird thing that I didn't know is that they had that cool green color. I had the Golden s6 and I had the white s6 active so, I think samsung also does unexpected things. But they are great. Thanks for the video man. I'm not too happy to hear that it wasn't as good as the s5 but, it's technologywise. But thanks Josh. Your videos rule man! God bless.
I remember I was still rocking a Galaxy S3 at the time and desperately wanted that S6 edge. I’m so glad I couldn’t afford to get it and instead got introduced to the Nexus line. After using a nexus I hated Samsung from that moment on.
My S6 kinda died today .. and a little bit of me died too! 💔 Thinking of replacing it with the A13 4G but I'm so worried I'm somehow 7 years later, going to be disappointed! 😥
Had one of these back in 16. Sold it about 3 weeks after I got it. on my 2nd S21 now..... First one just randomly stopped sending power to the screen in any way shape or form... Thanks, Samsung.
Well, if you install a custom rom with good battery optimization you can actually use it as a daily driver since it's hardware can handle android 10 perfectly fine and smoothly.
I just bought a refurbished s6 from eBay for $80, and it gets delivered tomorrow. I know it's 2021, and you guys may think I'm crazy, but I'm coming from a Moto G 2021. So that's an improvement for me. Plus, it was only $80
I replaced my bricked S6E G925A with a S20FE in 1/21. That said, I liked the camera on the G925A. Swapping batteries is difficult but not impossible. The charging port is prone to failure over time, but the daughter board is easily replaced, once the back glass is off. Good thing it has wireless charging! It is a shame that it is stuck with 7.0 OS, because some apps are no longer compatible. The above said, these things are cheap today, and still useful, especially as a spare.
I still have the s6 Edge gold it's beautiful to look at, the right size and weight for a phone. I love the led lights to show you messages which are not on any phone in recent years.
My first android phone. After I realized that the 5 C's in the iPhone 5C meant; cheap, chintzy, crap, crummy, and cheap, I burned my bridges with iOS and haven't looked back.
This is one of my favorite phones I loved how it felt in the hand, how it looked and the screen was amazing. I am thinking of picking up one just for fun and to use my Gear VR again. They go for about $60 used.
Was still using an S6 until 6 months ago. Upgraded to a Galaxy A12 for cheap. The S6 still works great but its software became too dated and the battery life competes with a Gaming Laptop.
I loved my s6 edge but the battery was SO BAD it would last like 2 hours on a full charge. Switched to an iPhone XR in 2019 and I’m still using that. The battery is SO MUCH BETTER.
