Using the Heat Transfer Method ~ Making 2 Soaps & Almost a Soap FAIL!

Today I am bringing you 2 soaps using the heat transfer method. This method of soapmaking is not my favorite, and I have no good reason why LOL. But it is very handy to be comfortable with it so you can make soap "on the fly" without waiting for the "perfect" soaping temperature!
I love this Apple Cider + Oak scent from ‪@MidwestFragranceCompany‬ - midwestfragranceco.com/produc...

Tammy.... I have learnt sooo much from watching you, the oooopsie mistakes and the oh so beautiful creations tooo. I've been soaping for one year and the one thing I do, so as not to forget my FO, is to put it in my mold, if I should forget, when it's time to pour that will surely be a reminder... Thanks for sharing, appreciate... Take care 🤗 🤗

Ooh goodness me you're so funny. First of all the heat transfer method, I completely agree with you I think it's far more of a pain to stand and stir everything for ever than just make some lye etc and leave it. I seriously don't know how you missed that fragrance oil, especially when you were wiping around it. It reminds me of something funny I read in a facebook group one. Soapmaker 1 said 'Oh no I forgot my fragrance oil, I do it so often' Soapmaker 2 says 'Oh I always sit the pot in my mould as soon as I've measure it out' - Soapmaker 3 'What, like an embed?' He, he,he it made me giggle at the time.

Tammy, it brings me so much joy to watch you!! I can relate to so much of what you do when you’re making. I laugh at myself all the time! They joy you get when your products turn out is contagious for sure. As for the heat transfer method… It took me a long time to get comfortable with it. Now that I am, it’s my chosen method. I will still pre make my lye on occasion, but I really like the quickness and ease of the heat transfer. Can’t wait for the next video!!

I love the top on the marshmallow soap! And the ones that got some streaks of black on the inside look pretty cool. We need to get you a tray or something to put everything on that you're using in the soap. With a big sign that says, "Tammy, don't forget me!" 🤣

You are so funny, but good recovery! I have done heat transfer, but don't like it. I like to soap 80-84 F. No problem with lye cooling, as I put the container in cold water with a few ice cubes, while I work on color or something needed for my project. Always (!) have good temp and timing. So I never do heat transfer any more. I don't like standing there stirring. But you seem to do well with it. Thanks for sharing. Cheers & Blessings 👍🤗
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Год назад
Thanks for sharing Cheryl!! I also will put my lye in a bowl of cold water to cool faster - I don't put ice in it because that is ANOTHER trip upstairs LOL - my legs kill me by the end of the day. I also started freezing my distilled water into cubes, that helps some as well. I think I need to think about a very small fridge for the basement for these things 🤔🤗

It made me chuckle how you were practically touching the fragrance oil the entire time. I'm sorry that happened, though. We just have to laugh at ourselves sometimes! I've done things like that, too. I thought it was funny at the end when you weren't sure what loaf of soap it was when it was time to cut. Take care, Tammy 💕🫧

If I didn't laugh at myself I would probably cry LOL (not really but you know...) I'm horrible with remembering things - especially when I do too many in one setting. I used to think that was ridiculous when a YT'er would say they couldn't remember what swirl they did, and I'm like , how can you forget that in just a day or two. Now I know, you CAN LOL💞

Okay I want you to repeat after me: A beautiful bar without any added scent is not only okay, it is really good for some people! Also, great save since you really wanted to put the fragrance in. I've rediscovered heat transfer method and currently liking it a lot. But last year when I first tried it I didn't like it at all. Go figure!
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Год назад
That is so true PaulaLyn - but you are right, I really wanted to give this fo a try. That also reminds me I only have 1 unscented bar left - I need to get busy making it. I love and use the heat transfer method with every batch. I am way to impatient and impulsive when I make soap lol. I do like you in this video, with putting it in my hard oils and butters first. Takes less time that way. Then add my other oils and additives. I haven't tried the Apple cider oak yet but their (MWFC) marshmallow fireside is great mixed with Lavender. It was a fav in fall/Christmas.
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Год назад
ohh, Tonya - that sounds like a both weird and interesting combo...I'm intrigued - I never would have put those two together. I'm out of Lavender, so looks like I'm off to MWFC to place an order!💗

You crack me up! I adore heat transfer. I cheat though and put my hard oils in the microwave for a quick minute. Usually it only melts the coconut oil, but it gives the butters a head start!
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique

I enjoy your videos 😊 I use a lot of cocoa butter in my recipes. When I do the heat transfer method, I have to add it to only butters/hard oils at first. One time I added all of the oils and butters and some of my cocoa butter didn't fully melt 😮‍💨 lesson learned! Oh, and I've forgot the fragrance oil too many times! It's still a pretty grey.
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Год назад
Thanks so much for watching Aime! I am going to start adding a butter to my recipe soon. I have made it too complicated currently. I will watch for that though, last year when I did the heat transfer I used all the oils/butters and I didn't think it would ever melt! 💖💖💖

oh shoot!! I didn't even think of stamping it - dang! LOL I'm so mad at myself right now 😆 oh but I am planning on making a solid color soap - maybe I will stamp that one. It is going to be yellow, and I'm adding blue cornflowers to the top. Now to think of a hummingbird color, if any. That is the only stamp I have right now.
@CL-we8tn
@CL-we8tn Год назад
Emerald green breast, almost metallic purple wing tips. Take that white shimmer and disperse in green, purple, brown black, maybe in the bright blue cornflowers too. Kinda like make everything except the edges and inside of the soap shimmer. I love that idea.

What temperature are you supposed to be pouring at. Is there a high temp and the lowest temp? Do you cover them?
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique
@WalnutCreekBathBoutique Год назад
you know Penny, I hardly ever take the temp at pouring. I try to make sure I soap at around 90 normally. With heat transfer that is all out the window though. The biggest thing when pouring is to make sure they are past emulsion. I like to have a bit of trace when I pour, I think that it makes for prettier swirls. I do try to cover my soaps, this can help with soda ash. If not with a lid I will try to drape a cover or towels over them to keep the heat in.

I do not like the heat transfer method at all. Maybe I am just too used to AZ heat and melting my oils just under the sun, lol. Anyhow, you are just too hard on yourself I told you before. Not everyone is into crazy colors, designs etc. Believe me. It’s an amazing good quality handmade soap. Period . And I am sure most people that you think will be looking even for an unscented one. Right now I have plenty of my OMH soap. What is totally sold out? My unscented, uncolored one. I took a variation I made also unscented but with added cocoa powder for some design and people were asking for the plain one. A lady was just driving me crazy( on a good way) she wanted to know when was coming back. And I am told her “it’s right here , this one is unscented too. But nope. She wants her PLAIN one, lol. Thank you Tammy. I laughed so much with you😮
