macmost.com/e-2654 The Ken Burns effects adds movement to your still images in your video projects. But picking a start and end crop area inside the photo, iMovie will move the photo over the duration of the clip. You can use more then one Ken Burns effect in consecutive clips in creative ways.

Right now, my main problems with my vid's are thumbnails and clips to hit with the music beat. I'm Hoping to find a Tutorial on those subjects on your channel. But, i want to say THANK YOU. Great tips and tricks for getting various effects. Any tips for using Ken Burn effectively for vertical photos? Wish there were vertical rectangles....
@macmost
@macmost 3 месяца назад
If you are using vertical photos in a horizontal video then you don't have as much room to move it around as you have to cover the frame. You can't have "nothing" behind the main timeline. However, if you put something else as the main timeline and then show the vertical photo in a picture-in-picture overlay instead, you can use keyframes to animate it as you like. I show this in ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-esz_6A6oHkM.html

@macmost

You can't crop to 1080x1080 (1:1) if the video project is 16:9. That doesn't make any sense since everything has to be in the 16:9 video. The video can't change ratio while being played.

Thanks Gary! Could you help with a resolution query? I'm adding a 4k video to a 1080p project and when using Ken Burns to zoom in on the 4k clip, I don't want to end up with a scene which has a lower resolution than 1080p as this would impair my final output video quality. Great information! I've got a question about the Ken Burns effect. It has to do with the speed, and not exactly the speed you explained in your video, but rather the constant speed of ken burns from start to finish. I want to have the ken burns start and finish using the same speed, however, for what ever reason when using the ken burns on a single image, it has a slow start, then ramps up faster, and slows down again when it gets to the end. I don't want it to do that. I just want it to have a constant speed from start to finish, no ramp ups and downs. Do you know how to fix this? Or is that just a standard thing ken burns has that you cannot edit?

This is all informative but what about prepping the images and working with a predetermined finish. Example-I want a 4K output using files from my camera that are mostly 5700px on the long side. Can I crop tighter than 4000px and still get a 4K output? Another question...if an image I have is say 3000px on the long side and I want to crop in to say 2000px using Ken Burns, this is half the size that iMovies needs to have a 4K output. Do I 'up' the size with the 3000px to say 6000px and work with that image? I think I get too particular but images prep seems important.

That's why people are interested in shooting 8K even though monitors that display that resolution are rare.
@macmost
@macmost 2 года назад
Recording at a higher resolution is what counts. Converting from lower to higher just to zoom in won't help at all. If you zoom in you will lose resolution, of course, but look at the result and see if it is acceptable to you and your final use.

@@macmost Hi- Im trying to get a more vertical effect. Start long (not wide) and go in, or vice versa. I've watched a lot of these videos on how to use Ken Burns. All I'm seeing for KB are examples of it on horizontal pics. In iMovie, I can't get the 'start' and 'end' prompt boxes to go vertical. I really want to incorporate the effect on some pics and import into Keynote. That is, unless you have a cool way to achieve a KB effect in Keynote that I don't know about. Does this make it any clearer?
@macmost
@macmost Год назад
@@GuyFromGeorgia So it isn't that the KB effect needs to be vertical, but the whole video needs to be vertical? Video you make in iMovie is horizontal, usually 16:9. There are tricks to using vertical, but not for 5x7 if that is what you want. You'll need to go to a different video editor (FCP, DaVinci, Premiere, etc) if you want to produce 5x7 video.

****AAAAARRRGGGHHH**** I am NEVER going to find the answer to my question! How do you do what you're doing with the Ken Burns effect except with a MOVING VIDEO? Here's the video. I'm showing a short film of a wasp feeding on some honey on the balcony, shot with my iPad. Now, in iMovie on my Mac, I just want to zoom in on the wasp, hold that zoom, and then zoom back out without having anyone see the transitions. I suspect it has something to do with copying the clips but it's not working mentally. I can zoom in and out till there's no tomorrow, but I can't zoom in, HOLD IT and then zoom out! And I don't know how to put that in keywords so Google will show me the answer! I keep getting IPHONE/IPHONE/IPHONE . . . !!!!!!
@macmost
@macmost 9 месяцев назад
You would split the clip. Split it twice, once where you want the zooming in to stop, and once where you want it to start zooming out. Then apply Ken Burns to the first clip to zoom in, then the last clip to Zoom out. You can then just crop the middle clip, or use Ken Burns there too but with start and end at about the same amount.
@kamakirinoko
@kamakirinoko 9 месяцев назад
@@macmost Thanks for the reply, MacMost! Wow, a reply in one day-it's unheard of! Much appreciated. The problem is that in the last clip-the one where you have to zoom out-you have to somehow match the exact position of the zoomed-in portion that you wanted to "hold" in the second clip because once you split the second clip then the Ken Burns effect is lost in the third clip. Or is it? Does the third clip (I haven't yet tried this, but it sounds like it couldn't work) maintain the exact zoomed-in position of the middle "hold" clip so you can just do a reverse Ken Burns and then zoom out? It's that *matching the zoomed-in position* of the middle clip onto the beginning of Clip 3 that's screwing me up. But Hollywood *must* have a way to do this after the film is shot, that doesn't involve all these machinations, mustn't it?
@macmost
@macmost 9 месяцев назад

Yes, earlier I discovered the what used to be called "Paste Attributes" command, but iMovie's equivalent. So copying one clip and just pasting the "crop" into another clip will confer whatever modifications (I haven't tried anything except "Paste Crop attributes" yet, but I'm pretty sure one can copy color/contrast attributes and paste those as well into a new clip.
