When you finally hear from someone who actually know about camera and videography rather than everyday smartphone subjected youtuber comment on a camera peformance and versatility. That is what I've been telling people. The photos and videos taken from the auto mode will not be always the best for the scenario, and that's when you need something like the Pro Mode Samsung offers to change a little here and there and get the desired results. I hope Samsung hears from you and further improve their Pro Mode with the features they missed. Then we're talking.
Thank you very much for your comment. Its always fun to see what these devices are truly capable of and I appreciate any phone company that builds in some sort of pro mode.
But how many people who buy these phones actually know their way around the pro mode? Most people would fuck up their shots and footage with the pro mode, that's why Tech reviewers will always focus on the quality on auto because that's how 95% of the people who buy these phones actually shoot.
@@randomvideosxd1330 it's an option on Samsung phones, but i kinda dig Apple's approach to it, instead of putting an option that 95% of people wouldn't use, which can make the camera app cluttered in some way, just collaborate with a very good company and make an app that makes the best use of all that the camera hardware is capable of that people who really need to shoot professional video on their iPhones can download and use, hence the Filmic pro app, everyone can agree that Filmic pro is way better o iPhone than it is on android phones, and way better than any phone's inbuilt pro mode.
Thanks so much! Its definitely a beast of a phone. I think there's more 8K content to come since it seems you're not alone in wanting more. I appreciate the support so much!
Really glad I came across this video, very different from all the videos I watched! I've preordered my Note 20 Ultra and been using it for 9 days. This thing is a beast and I'm very impressed with the versatility of the camera system!
Itʼs amazing how you were able to maximize the potential of the Note 20 Ultraʼs camera. Seeing how other reviewers kind of 'under-reviewed' the camera module of the Note 20 Ultra was actually detrimental to its media popularity among the masses. Thank you for doing the phone justice. I just subscribed and Iʼm totally viewing your content. God bless, man!
You're probably one of the few RU-vidrs who knows what they're doing in a smartphone. Great youtuber with great knowledge.. Clicked like and subscribed!
i was using my old s7 edge to make videos, even we can use dslr for shooting mobile phone is more handy. now im going to buy note 20 ultra. thanks for your reaserch and results. you and Note20Utra both are impressive ;)
@@dagohoyting2417 Chinese is still chinese... The way you zoom any pictures from any chinese smartphones you got that image produced is way cartoonish.
@@initialfocus Looking forward to that Sony video. Building a youtube content/movie creation setup and am slowly leaning towards the rigged phone setup vs dedicated cameras due to budget constraints. Glad I came across your stuff when I did.
Bro, no matter how hard i try to watch camera videos elsewhere. I always come back to your channel because of your simplicity and knowledge and no bullshit 💯 You have earned my respect and sub ❤
I love that you went in depth about how to get good shots out of this specific camera. I actually learned some things while watching this which is awesome.
One thing I've learned over the last year of watching phone camera reviews is this. Don't watch the tech reviewers if you want a good, objective opinion on how good the cameras are or can be. The only reviews I found legitimate and useful and knowledgeable were from photographers using the phones. Tech reviews would just point and shoot in bad conditions and say, "See? Terrible." They never go in depth with these camera. Thankfully I found some good quality videos on the topic and none of them came from the tech reviewers with millions of subscribers driving their Tesla's. (You know who you are.)
Your point isn't actually valid, how many people that you know actually know how to use the pro modes on these cameras? Guys like MKBHD, (who i'm very sure you're referring to with the tesla statement) actually review the phones from the average user's perspectives, and that's where 85-90% of people who buy phones fall into. This guy is a camera guy, so it's normal for him to go in depth with the camera because that's his field. Tech reviewers review the phones as an experience, not just one part of the phone because very little people actually explore and try this much to get things to work.
apart from those fake tech review channels like unbox therapy, MKBHD, or other shit channel doesn't know tech actually. they only know unboxing and talk about simple things that every child can do and they cant talk deep about tech. so I admire this channel effort and I hope your channel group up soon. and don't forget to create valuable content to your viewers.
Your video is way above the ability of most Cell phone users to understand, unless they are professional photographers themselves, or, amateurs with a moderate to high degree of technical knowledge about cameras and their settings. I'm sure it was an enjoyable video for those with the technical know-how.
One of the best videos i've seen reviewing Note20 Ultras camera. I bought Note20 Ultra recently and planning to build my channel totally depending on this phone. Its a challenge, especially for a beginner filmmaker, but its going to be an interesting experience.
10:34 I wished you had a Moment lens clip mount and the Moment anamorphic lol that taped up contraption looks crazy. Best in depth phone camera review i've ever seen though.
I like seeing how far a phone camera and Video can be pushed to its limits. The list has what you can't do and what is amazing and possible. Great Video 🙂😎
You just earned a subscriber. This is a fantastic, slick video. Really enjoyed your work, along with the surprising Note 20 camera. The cinematic videos were mouth-watering, gotta give you that. It is nice to finally talk about such stuff in detail as you did. Overall, a really nice video. :) Good luck with your future endeavours. You have some serious skills. ;)
This is a great video man, this camera is insane, I've been shooting with this camera a lot lately, and like you I have higher end cameras and lenses but it's been refreshing using a camera that fits in my pocket and gives me the control I would get from my mirrorless. Definitely knowing how to dial in your settings makes a difference, a lot of people expect a lot from auto modes but you're not getting the best out of it that way.
Thank you! I wish I spent some more time on the stills aspect. the two photos included near the end of the apartments and my car interior are both shot on the Ultra but yes!
Came here to see decent 8k samsung, came out learning about cinematography and overall video filming tips. i am not disappointed. Please keep making this type of content 👍
A class quality talk Mike - just stumbled upon this and it summarizes nicely data on what cine image is (good photography in film). This should be shown as cannon for all those kids shooting high sharpness high shutter speed "cinematic" tests that look like camcoders. Your 24fps 1/50 shots looked so velvety. I subbed. I wanna dig further info on raw cine footage. Btw, do you think BM pocket 4k is a good camera to invest in for short films? I got Nikon good primes but I've done a lot of photography. I wanna develop my DP and film director skills so I need a capable camera. I knew something about BMP4k but you're really making me think I should buy one. "An iPhone in R Deakins hands" - yes, that's what I wanna achieve with this purchase, an inexpensive pro(ish) tool that paired with some good lights would give me a basic full on studio to play with (and gear to shoot ideas on until I get stupid good at it - I've had this approach with photography and it seems to work: being "getting good" oriented vs "when do I make money")
The cinematic B roll footage you took with the phone looked almost as good as footage taken on a Arri alexa camera. How could you take a cinematic footage that good with a phone? that was a great LUT indeed. jesus
I wish that Samsung had carried on with the Samsung branded phone cases which allowed the samsung branded lenses to be screw attached, this I think was only phone that did that the S7, I brought 2 of these lens kits one for the S7 and one for the S7 edge. I currently use a S10 Note+ and think I will skip the S20 Note Ultra and wait for the next one, but I have noticed I do not used any of my Sony DSLRs any more for video other than videos of the Planets and the sun spots (which are in short supply at the moment in solar minimum).
I absolutely loved this video! And I've never watched you before, but I would love just lessons on videoing from you. I would also like your opinion about how this was in 4K. I definitely think it needed to have a video about its 8K, since that is the hottest thing about it. But I would really be curious since most stuff would be done in 4K. How this really does stack up against Apple or Pixel. And against a inexpensive DSLR. I would really be excited if I could use a phone in lieu of a DSLR. Even if it's just for a RU-vid channel, where I would probably be speaking in front of it more and maybe have some other videos from scenery or children playing or sporting events from my kids.
Pro mode is the way to go. I use the 2017 lg v30 for my videos, and when in log mode you can get stunning results. You can also film in 4k with high bitrate. I got that phone for $90 btw
Very good video! Much more in depth and informative that what I expected going in. You definitely know your stuff when it comes to taking pictures and video.
This was very well put together. I love your videos. Can't wait for you to get hands on S21 Ultra. I am selling my DSLR to get it when it comes out, main benefit of the form factor means I dont need to carry around 1.5 kg camera vs 635 grams for all, the gimbal and 3 lens options phone offers. Please if possible could you do some mobile cinema in night mode, and help us understand how to get the best possible image on a smart phone like Note 20 for night cinematic look, also does 108mp camera generates some shallow depth of field at all or not, could you test that out? I love how you give software details in your videos. My question would be, would you for the most part recommend shooting in 4k vs 8k, 60 vs 24, as there might be some other then zoom-in benefit of 8k... Right now even on hyper optical cable iMac still gets jerky at 8k, playback looks bad, might be with chrome not loading timeline ahead, but only wants to stream, cos even if i pause I can't play it, at 5k retina I dont think is able to even down sample 5k so it can either play 4k or it becomes choppy.
just got my note 20 ultra. i love it! takes amazing pictures and viideos! yes please make more videos likes this one. possibly showing tips and tricks to get good resuts.
I'm picking up the Note 20 Ultra at the end of the month and I have never been more excited for a phone camera in my life. I shoot a lot of video on my Sony a7III but having this as a support camera will be a game changer for sure. I'm super stoked to see what it can pull off!
I love that you used pro video mode for this. So many youtubers only use auto mode to make it 'fair' when comparing with other phones however they should be using the camera to its full potential.
1st time bumping on this channel and wow, what a detailed content I sure learned what this phone can do what a beast indeed, not just like other plain youtube reviews which cameras are on auto.
Hey Michael, thanks for very informative review. Have you seen specs of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra ? I'm seriously thinking of getting it based on very good reviews of the Camera & DXO score. Do you have thoughts on this Phone Camera ?
Would you recommend the video camera on the note over the iPhone w filmic pro? Very interested in this phone but I utilize video on my phone frequently.
That 8K is beautiful, I did some testing videos on my channel but there is no stabilization so it looks good only when you are not moving.... otherwise you can see that "wobling" on image... still I'm amazed how amazing quality can come from a mobile phone... ;-)
Did you film this in the Pro Video mode I know there you can use all the settings but not on standard video mode. Love what you did with the dji filter I gave it a go myself.
I'm really impressed with the quality of the pro mode on this phone, shot in 8k in 24fps with controlled shutter speed gives that cinematic feel, good work men! I'm happy with my Note 20U
Nice video, I just received mine and while I am more into stills (actually wanted the note for editing photos to be honest lol) I was excited for some small video projects with my phone just for product intros.
What did you use to mount the phone to say a tripod or something to do videos/webcam stuff using the phone? The Samsung note 20 ultra is a bit big and trying to find a standard mount for it is a challenge
Can it be trusted? Before this, dx0mark was owned by Sony and they always put Xperia on top score even tho its camera performed poorly. Just after it's no longer under Sony, so Xperia no longer get top score
@@rrsharizam Can it be trusted?.. Absolutely not. If you pay more attention on their results closely, and analyze different samples with other phones, you will notice they're actually manipulating with them. For example, take Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro, they take the best samples from Mi 10 Pro, and then compare it to the worst ones from other phones, and in reverse. Here're some examples; ibb.co/jkpKqmc ibb.co/fxMr4yJ ibb.co/bLZp9gx ibb.co/mqGdBpF Mrwhosettheboss actually has a video about dxomark scores. It's all marketing. All companies (except Apple) pay dxomark to make their cameras look good, Huawei and Xiaomi giving the most of it. And the sad thing is, that most people believe them.
I used s10 plus with filmic pro and its amazing not it the same like my a7lll but is close like a6500 you can't have the deep of field because the sensor its so small but for landscape or arquitchture its amazing great detail and enough bit rate 120mb to do something in post
Great video, I don't see why anyone wouldn't like this. You are very detailed. Nothing was rudimentary about video 📹 Please do more comparisons, because I'm a tech head and love them 😆 I also love my Note20Ultra
How were you able to work with the footage? I can't get anything to decode the 8k video files from my Samsung Note 20. I tried VLC, Media Player, and Resolve.
I just saw a Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom from 2014. It had a telescoping lens much like many pocket cameras, and it did not have much more of a bump than the Note 20 Ultra when collapsed. The bump would be worth every mm if it had such a lens! Maybe it could even be interchangeable if it took a hint from the Nikonos V, which could do lens swaps while under water. Just imagine how much sensor you could put under such a lens! Now that would be a setup that feels a lot more worth the cost and bulk than my Note 20 Ultra does so far. That's not to say you could just swap that sort of a lens in though. Something that expands that much is going to be impossible to waterproof (and hard to dustproof) without some kind of pressure equation system, so maybe it would need to come with 2 lenses, a very thin wide angle lens for less than perfect weather and the telescoping zoom setup for normal conditions.
When making videos with a phone, if you are bothered that you can't see if it's recording, a cheap fix is one of those little $5 dollar round tilting vanity mirrors, just set it on the other side where you can see the reflection
Loved this...thanks for a superb video...makes a change from the hundreds of other videos all about the Exynos vs Snapdragon debate on this phone... People need to just get it and enjoy what this phone has to offer in terms of its cameras.. The 5x optical zoom is pretty sweet too 😃
Thanks so much! I’m really bored of regular phone reviews so wanted to focus on something different! Just released another video comparing it to my pocket 6K this morning if you want to take a peep! 😬
