I have the same Trailer Valet XL. I got it very inexpensively second-hand. I can understand people's negative comments about it. Every time I use it I feel like I've been on a treadmill for an hour (and that's with a drill) but in some circumstances (extremely narrow driveway and street) it is actually very helpful in getting a trailer where you want it to go. I envy the guys who grew up towing trailers on the family farm who can back a 5th-wheeler through an obstacle course blindfolded, but if you are just someone who tows a couple times a year, a trailer dolly can really help you make your camping possible.
Yup have to agree it works for some of us. It was worth the money. Let the others laugh…. It’s not for everyone. The drill attachment makes it doable and the best way for us to move the two trailers we have.
That’s why I only use the drill. It’s hard enough wrestling it even with the drill, but it works. My drill is no worse for wear so far and I’m moving a 6200 lbs RV trailer. Yea not for everyone, but it works for those who need it. I’ll never use the crank if I can help it. 😜
A year later and he's finally worked up the nerve to put it back in his driveway...lol How do you close the garage door with the trailer tongue in the way?
Are there regulation that don’t allow you to back it in the driveway? I guess only benefit is no one can steal it. How long does it really take to get in in the driveway?
Great job, it worked. I used the cheap HF 10,000lb winch for my boat, it worked out perfect since I don't have help like you do. Suggestion, tie chock blocks behind wheels so it drags it along for that "just in case" moment.
@robbob4872 hang them from the body behind the wheels. They will hang down and drag behind tire only when using dolly and when you travel you can remove them and stow them in the trailer.
I think I'll opt for the motorized style if I get one, man I am wore out just watching. But, very cool indeed! Atleast this one is immune to an EMP attack.
Hahahaha this is hilarious!!! This poor kid is going to get beat up by the grumpy neighbor when he has to wait 2 hours to get in his driveway because he’s backing the camper up 20’ 🤣
I have so many fun ideas with this, like hooking it up to my utility trailer and making it into a slow speed golf kart without a steering wheel and pedals 😂
That thing looks like a nightmare. I really appreciate the demonstration because I was about to buy one. I feel sorry for the kid. The workout was more for the kid you killed him lol
Omg!. Easier to back it in with a vehicle. It's a neat concept. I have used a snowblower tractor attachment to do the same before which also has its challenges, much less effort. Or if you need to go in reverse maybe attach a removable tongue on the back?
I am so confused by so many things here. First the dolly company states not to use it up hill but hey you have to do what you have to do. Why the trailer is not backed in is beyond me. I see many wrote someone could steal it and I suppose that’s true but what are the odds a good lock and a few other gadgets don’t prevent the theft. Plus if stolen that what insurance is for. How you get this back down the driveway has to be just as entertaining as getting it up the driveway. I dam near lost it when I saw the floor attached come along being used to help assist it. Why not try an impact drill that would have to help. Honestly my hats off to you for going through this every time you camp.
If I had to spend more than 5 min parking one of my trailers, I would never go camping. The work, effort and costs involved in parking that little trailer in that little driveway would not be worth it. I'm SO Glad I did not buy one of those trailer dollies. Just the thought of going through all that turns me off to even wanting to go out RVing. What I did was install full air bags on my truck, replacing the rear suspension, allowing me to drop it to the bumps and raise it to the clouds. This allows me to "hook n book", less than 1 min, including connecting chains and plug. I also only buy homes with large parking, and I recently bought a 5 acre lot to park my trailer collection. I'd rather spend ~$60,000 than go through the pain and misery you just suffered through. I've very glad I saw this video, as I was looking at this dolly. I'm going to just buy a ~$30,000 small tractor and use that to move my trailers around. I wish you luck and faith each time you must Indore this pain. I'll bet more than once you guys decided to not take the trailer because of the work involved in moving it. :/
And the quad will fit in the garage and you can remove that floor mounted winch. On boring days you can ride the quad around the neighborhood. You get two for one.
I was concerned about the unit sliding out from under the hitch since it's not braced. The tongue on my trailer is too short for the 5X version. There is no way I can do this. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the demo. Questions on your "custom bracket" that attaches to the jack post: 1. It looks like you attach to the post and the trailer valet with chain link fence brace bands, correct? 2. have you noticed any undue wear/tear on your jack from the tension of pulling with the Trailer Valet?
I haven't noticed any wear on the jack. The brace only really works when you are pushing straight forward or back. Doesn't provide much support when turning. I now remove the ball from the trailer valet when attaching to the trailer. The connection is much more secure using this method.
Thanks for sharing the use of this contraption. But all honestly I think if I had it lined up straight up the driveway what are used to block and tackle on tied to the back of it truck.
I gotta tell you. I haven’t laughed this much in I don’t know when. Just when I thought comedy was gone forever. Seriously I hope they don’t pull this video down before I share with all my friends. Right now I have to decide whether to subscribe or not. Don’t know how they will top this.
You have creatively overcome all of the obstacles but it seems extremely complicated. Seems like you could simply attach a tongue jack wheel to the trailer and then simply push the trailer into position, then mount a cheap harbor freight winch to the tongue and create a tie down in the garage to winch from.
I have an RV that weighs 7500lbs and I need to get it into a driveway through an ally! Can you tell me exactly what you are saying to buy that can replace this? I looked at a Winch that cost about $100 that pulls upto 12000lbs. But what is a Tongue jack wheel and where can I find those?
I think this has a option to put the special socket to a good cordless drill and let the drill do the work, for God sakes everyone has a cordless drill let the drill do the work that's what hand drills are for make your life easier, but in a pinch this could be used. Get the hand drill, Milwaukee fuel or Makita 6 amp hour power batteries would be the ticket 😉
This is actually really good for us food vendors at events when you show up late to setup. Sometime your neighbors will get there before you making it impossible to get the trailer into a spot, this would be perfect
A lot of criticism I noticed in the comments, but I appreciate the safety redundancies you have here. We have the smaller Valet, and a smaller camper, and it’s more than challenging to crank it uphill. Going downhill, forget about it! I’ve considered a winch for taking it out of the garage for maintenance rather than hitching it up just to go 20 feet lol.
Looks like it's more of a PITA than it's worth, lol. My wife and I rented a storage unit for our boat- not realizing how heavy our boat is (usually move with pickup) that getting it up the incline into the storage unit is harder than we'd originally thought it would be. There's not enough room between the rows of storage buildings to properly back it in with the truck, and the door to the unit is barely wide enough for the boat. I can see that this is not what I am needing- I need to be able to get the boat out and in a LOT faster than this, haha. Thanks for sharing!
Nice video. You show what’s possible with hard work. To all the lazy dudes, get in shape and stop going to McFats every day. Question- do you think it’s possible to go up your driveway with the Trailer Valet pushing (vs pulling)? I’m thinking no, but look forward to your experienced response.
Line it up putting the truck in the the driveway, leave yourself just enough room to disconnect and pull truck out, finish with your contraptions. Probably only take you about 15 minutes instead of an hour
Thanks for the share - Good tool to have i would definitely buy it - and modify it using a power drill instead of the crank shaft handle easier and quicker- to pull a good power winch can be found at harbor freight for 129.00
Wow, unless you own a trailer and the wheels to move you know and realize what it takes to move to a specific parking spot. Personally, I would not use the wheel and the crank. Bending is already a stressful operation. There must be a tri wheel motorized dolly I assume. I admire the gentlemen putting forth the effort cranking, good job.
If I owned a trailer valet I would never use the trailer and I would throw in the trailer the day I sell the house trailer valet is free with purchase.
I would take or cut that crank handle off that thing and fix it to where I could put my big cordless drill. If it burned up the drill like you said use an impact on it and do it right. Otherwise it's easier just to hook up the truck and move it. Lol
