Yes, you need to have internet connection and data roaming is the easiest way. If you're on Celcom, Digi and Maxis, the best option is the monthly RM95/99 data roaming plan if you're overseas for 4 days or more. You can check with your telco on the roaming options for China.

We've not tried with local China SIM. We recommend using Data Roaming so you can access more services including Google, Facebook, RU-vid, etc with no restrictions while in China.
