Glad to see another salvager. I hate throwing small scraps away and different shaped boxes. I use most of my scraps to check tension when I change the thread and bobbin, or play with my decorative stitches. I have plenty of bigger scraps to do this with too.

Great idea!!! I have this ruler set and figured one day I would sit down and cut for a day. With my shoulder that’s something I was not looking forward to so I have not done it. I have the perfect box to use and I am going to get set up today. I will use up my scraps as I finish a quilt too and only spend an hour cutting instead of all day. My shoulder thanks you and I thank you Laura for teaching hints that make my life easier.

I have something that MIGHT work...general cutting..dont know about with templates...all my cutting is straight line...but...the thing I have that helps my bad hand, arm and shoulder is an electric scissors. Once you get used to a pair they are easy to use. Have had mine for many years. Not dangerous, and really help alot. Be well☆

This is such a simple fix for the odd shaped leftovers. Brilliant! I especially appreciated that you pointed out to do your decorative stitches before completing the whole block. And, I am tired of cutting out squares from my leftovers. This will make an interesting quilt! Thanks!

Hi Laura, I designed the Scrap Crazy 6 Templates for Creative Grids. Love your box idea! The templates do much more than just Crazy Patch. There are 16 quilts featured in 2 different books and several single patterns that all use one, two or more of the templates. In addition, the smallest template "D" is sized to be cut from 2 1/2" strips. It is perfect for using up the ends of a Jelly Roll. You did seem to mention that the "E" portion of template "A" was to divide the template, actually it was created to work with the "B" template to make stars or the "D" template to create additional designs. Thank you for featuring the 6" templates.

The templates are a great idea as it is often difficult to part with a favourite fabric, or use an 'ugly one' given to you. Dividing the box into sections for the fabric is a wonderful way to keep them both. Yep, I like to keep and make use of everything if possible. Many thanks for introducing the template set Laura, best wishes, Jess

I designed these templates for Creative Grids. The "E" portion of the template is designed to work with the "B" template to make stars. If you watch the video on www.creativegridsusa.com you will see the process. The templates actually make dozens of patterns, not just crazy patch.

How clever of you to think INSIDE the box here :-). This is a great idea; having the shapes sectioned off gives one the inspiration to immediately cut up their scraps while they're still flat and not get crumpled up from throwing them in just any old bin. I think Creative Grids should market this set of rulers with an instruction sheet from you or at least include a link to this video.

You just sold a set of those! I thought that would not be a helpful thing for me to have because I make my own crazy quilt Patchwork but if I plan ahead keep the templates available then when I've got a little extra this a little extra that I can go ahead and cut it to a shape instead of stashing it in the unknown designated spot that I will never find again or at least for 2 years! I will have a box just like yours.
@betsyoman7173

Another idea: The templates are gridded off in half-inch squares. You could lay those lines on the edges of a scrap of fabric, then cut on the angled line, so that you get a smaller piece. You could put a piece of tape across the top of the template so that you always use the same lines, although that would make it hard to see through. I'm not sure about that, but you get the idea.

There is another template set available Crazy 8's...makes a bigger finished square...Question: if you use decorative stitches on the seams of the unfinished block. how do you quilt the layers together for finishing, if you can't stitch in the ditch? also, does the raised stitches of the decorative stitching get in the way from doing all over free motion quilting? thanks!
@SewVeryEasy
@SewVeryEasy 4 года назад
For simplicity I definitely would freemotion this and as long as you use a strong needle you should have no problem going over the decorative stitching
