Using Your Time Wisely; how to stay productive by maximizing small moments throughout the day!

Rajiv is often referred to as a modern-day Renaissance Man and today he shares his approach to juggling many practices. Small segments of time can be utilized to great effect-a few minutes here and there add up significantly. Knitting and sketching may not be your thing, but Rajiv's approach can be applied to many other practices and hobbies.
Rajiv values the small moments throughout the day as vital to both his physical and mental well-being, and he attributes many of his skills to effective time-management.

As I was watching, I had convinced myself that he would offer suggestions on how to spend time on your lunch break polishing your resume, and that waiting in line at the grocery store is a great opportunity to answer emails and reply to texts. My poor broken soul is still recovering from the relief that it's perfectly OK to just think and breath. His productivity *goals* are indeed just: think and breath. I'm weeping.
@rajivsurendra

My hope is that you realize that while you're waiting in line, thinking and breathing are both much more beneficial to you than answering emails.

This is so so refreshing. I’ve been watching a lot of productivity videos on RU-vid. All of them - ALL of them made me feel anxious because they’re either filled with theories, techniques, lectures, guilt trip, “over-engineered” methods, or just pretentious. But this right here, pulls me back into my present moment. Rajiv somehow can calm me down and talk to us like a friend would. His sharing is so grounded, simple and genuine. There’s no guilt tripping, there’s no fear mongering theories of I’d be left behind if I am not productive. I feel that I can just… be. I think it’s true that life can be as simple. And there’s also one key takeaway from this, always be in the present if I want to better use my fragmented time. Doom scrolling on my phone is my number 1 time killer atm. I need to get back to just breathing, crocheting and sketching ❤

This was exactly how I felt approaching this episode!! The word "productive" made me tentative to click on it, but my trust for Rajiv immediately outweighed by apprehension and I am so glad I had trust. I really appreciate that productivity for Rajiv means more that you are living a holistically satisfying life by making valuable use of your time instead of being motivated by what you think you "should" be doing or the amount of work or profit that is getting done. Once again I am so grateful to have found this channel and other like-minded people.

Breathing.....I take very shallow breaths. There are times I find how bad it actually is. I cannot say this enough to you...THANK YOU. I work retail and today was actually a night when I was home at a decent time. I fell asleep. My 13 year old reminsee me that I had waited all week to work until a decent hour. I didn't even eat dinner. Determined now to go into the kitchen and make us both something light but filling and enjoy some time catching up. Tomorrow is Sunday...no school a n d I dont have to be at work until 3.

Listening to your video has made it apparent that I am really great at wasting time and feeling very guilty and lazy about that for way too long. Funny thing is…is that other people perceive me as very productive! My daughter whose self image photos is a sloth which speaks to her self denigration sense of humor…said yesterday the she was “Behind in Life”! I thought this comment to be very amusing and what I love so much about her! She is wonderful and brilliant and yes…gets very messy and disorganized at times…but then she can gather herself and clean up amazing well. Our favorite thing to do is go to IKEA together and complete great storage and home improvement projects. I could go on…but just want to Breathe and say a huge thank you for sharing so many wonderful you do and how you value quality and all things beautiful and made by hand. I think we have a lot in common…I learned Chopin’s Nocturne #19 for my sweetheart in preparation for his visit..who I ended up marrying 38 years ago. And I too am a pottery and art collector. I know if we were neighbors in a different life, we would go antiquing and enjoy cooking and eating! Not to sound creepy in anyway but the company you keep can be inspiring or take you down a bad road. We must all choose wisely and increase our time with loved ones who are meaningful to us! “Water seeks its own level”! Keep the Force as I know you’ll do! Sending many Blessings your way Thank you again for sharing so many Life affirming videos!🥰

I have incorporated this as well!! I have always struggled with anxiety. Every time I would be out in public, I'd feel a huge weight in my body. Then I discovered smiling! It is so simple that it almost seems stupid, but putting a smile on my face eventually convinces my mind that everything is going to be alright. It's the most peculiar thing. The best part is watching how people respond to the warmth that radiates from a simple smile! If any of you are reading this, don't listen to the pessimists. You should smile more!!

A useful way of starting to find what things to do with the little moments can be to simply make time to let yourself become bored without actively doing anything to be less bored. That way, in the boredom, you might find out what it is you'd actually rather be doing. It's in those little moments that you can grow as a person, if you give yourself the opportunity.

I have always wanted to write a book. Loads of ideas but no discipline, and ADHD. But someone said, just do a thousand words a day. Get out your computer, sit down and write, doesn't have to be great, no editing, just do. So l started getting up an hour earlier, a 5.30 am. And l would write. Then l started getting up at 5 am, because l was so loving the process. Three weeks in l have 31k words and about two thirds away from the first draft. Just finding the right time, and the discipline to make small inroads into my joy of authorship.

Your creative blood is such an inspiration for any and all who need to just BE! I have only watched 2 videos thus far, this being the second, and I can't help being drawn in to all you offer in the way of ancient old sage thinking and direction (should one wish to learn) in order to move about in this ugly environment called 'modern living'. I, like you, possess many abilities to try and succeed just about anything. From art to cooking to creative baking to decorating to landscaping to designing gardens to...other things. I, UNLIKE you, have been stuck my whole life, seemingly unable to remove the sticky tar that keeps me in the trauma of many yesteryears abuse. I can't seem to move about in my own life freely and with confidence, despite the numerous accolades of family and friends. I am so drawn and impressed by your loving and caring soul of sharing simple things to help remove the road blocks in life. Your genteel way of talking is soothing, encouraging, inspiring. I am remembering a time before cell phones when people did exactly what you do on a regular basis. I spent several years commuting on a train into Chicago and I always found it fascinating to watch how people spent their commuting time on the train. Men mostly read (newspapers) or slept, occasionally they would have conversations with coworkers or other friends. Sometimes you'd see a man or a woman simply staring out the window watching the world go by. Women also read (usually books), but also worked on needlework projects, knitting, crocheting, embroidering. There were groups of people that would sit together on a regular basis and chat, coming and going to work. You never felt alone on the train and there was a sense of conviviality about that time together with mostly strangers. I recently took a train into the city and, with a couple of exceptions, everyone was on some type of electronic equipment. No conversations, no laughing, no projects. I saw one person with an actual book and several people sleeping. That sense of community and togetherness was gone. It was such a stark contrast to years past. Such a sad thing to experience.

Excellent reminder to live fully. I do wish you would talk about grammar. Have you noticed how modern people have trouble conjugating verbs? Or differentiating between singular and plural? Instead of using are they are lazy and use is even if the subject is plural. I especially cringe when people say "had went." The correct usage is gone but people seem to have forgotten that word! Sorry for the rant but it would be an interesting topic. ❤️ 🕉 🙏 💐 💐

Hi, Rajiv, thank you for sharing! I’m amazed and amused: you’re carrying the exact same things like me in my small backpack! Mostly I knit socks, mostly for others, because I’ve a lot, if I’m on the way. People are thinking: oh, she’s retired now, she has the time… but no, I did that long time before during my work time as a jurist, counting the minutes in between, but I enjoy that I’ve MORE time for all that now, including breathing in the right way. For traveling, I’ve a small Gitalele, but as a retiring gift for my husband I’ve found a wonderful travel guitar from Tchechia with a full and warm sound, which you can easily put in pieces. He travels by bike with it, it has a protecting backpack of normal size. Best and most used gift I ever gave him in 51 years. In supermarkets I’ve my little paper calendar with notes about the actual language I’m studying… but just breathing is a wonderful idea, too. And of course I’ve ALWAYS a book with me… some on my mobile, but I prefer paper. Love from Germany, Monika❣

Always an inspiration! Would also love to see a 'day with Rajiv' video about how you organise your morning yoga/meditation and music practice into your daily routine.

Oh god thank you for mentioning thinking! I’ve always been a “daydreamer” and some days, the only productive thing that I do is thinking but it is so valuable. Especially as a writer and artist, it allows me to come into new versions of myself.

This video gives hope that one can still take out time to activities one loves! The problem is there are too many activities that I absolutely don't like doing but I have to do. As a home based lady with little support to keep my home clean, inviting and looking all good, I have to do the dishes, clean the home, dust the surfaces and clean the kitchen in the afternoon and evening. I don't have time for many many things I really love and want to do - complete online courses on art history and history, read books on the same subjects, learn to sketch and draw, do adult colouring or something creative. I haven't been able to do this for months now mostly because household chores that I detest doing occupy so much of my time. I have tried sooooo many ways of allocating time to activities I love doing instead. Anyway.....rant over. I love Rajiv's videos❤

Rajiv's philosophy of life is such a tonic to the fast-paced internet-driven capitalist structures most of us live in. Slow down, get off your phone, make things with your hands, purchase things made to last, be in the moment... Inspiration for life ✨

I really needed this somehow. Lately I've been feeling empty and lonely inside whenever I have spare time, like on the weekends. I think I need to start some new hobbies and pick up some old ones again. I'm not sure where I was going with this but thanks Rajiv it was a great video

I love "deep breathing" as a waiting in line practice - it's very soothing and somehow the line doesn't take as long as you thought it might.

Such a gem of an advice Rajiv. All activities focused on creating something or simply focusing on breath. In the current world driven by consumption of content, this is indeed a breath of fresh air.

Dear Rajiv, Well this will have to be one of the chapters in my book of " how Rajiv changed my life." And I've just seen it 7 months after you made it. I've just found you three weeks ago and you have changed things for me. And now you're speaking very intelligently about maximizing the time that we have and isn't time the most important thing that we have? This video 🙏 Amazing. You may have even made me want to start scatching again which I gave up long ago, and sundry other things. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the way that you think and that you share it with us. But I think I just did.😊 Amazing

As I sit here thinking about how else to be productive and quiet my busy mind - here is Rajiv telling me to just slow down. I found myself just mesmerized as I normally am with Rajiv - but completely focused and immersed in his words. My multi tasking mind just stopped and listened and it was wonderful. So I took a moment, took a small travellers journal I have, took out my ink pad and stamped the first notebook and here it is, day one, of being present and not 'watching others minds" on my phone. I will use the journal to be creative again. You are the breathe of fresh air that I needed.

Rajiv, this is your most valuable video yet! I love that you expand into a more rounded lifestyle. Thank you for sharing this wisdom. Your hat story reminded me of my aunt Ana. She once found herself in a long drawn out negotiation (she was an attorney). The other side brought newspapers and would read cartoons every time she spoke. The next day she brought her yarn and needles to the meeting. When the gentlemen on the other side complained exacerbated, she responded: Why are you so upset? I see when I speak you're reading cartoons. The only difference between what you're doing and what I'm doing is that at the end of this, I'll have a sweater.
