U.S. Marine Corps helicopters and an MV-22 Osprey land at Riverfront Park in downtown Nashville to prepare for the Marine Week celebration from September 7-11, 2016. Marine Week, hosted by the United States Marine Corps in one city per year, is a celebration of Community, Country and Corps - providing the American public the experience of directly connecting with hundreds of Marines. Former army here, was always jealous that the USMC commandant flew in the 53 while being shadowed by the AH1s. No one else gets such badass service, no one.

Plan B marketing. Advies & Management They would be flying anyways, the pilots need a certain amount of flight hours to maintain their flight status, they get flight hours while doing this and also its a good recruiting tool...if anything its a more efficent use of tax payers money

When I was 11 we had a army medivac Heuwy land less than 100 feet from our house. We lived next to a field 2nd to the last house at the end of the block. The helo developed a overheating issue. 2 of the crew had to stay the others caught a ride when the army drove in with repair crew. It had to be air lifted out by Chinook that was amazing to watch on the video dad took a day later. Mom made fried chicken, mashed potatoes, rolls and salad. The men had to eat in that chopper they couldn't leave it for a second. 5 kids got a up close look and sit in the back before they left. I only got to watch the video of the airlift we had school and it was not a idea situation for kids. Dumb luck I guess.

@@callanmanley7593 I will ask my mom if she has the video it was 8mm vhs Handycam 1987. The Handycam is gone but the 8mm vhs or beta tapes are in a box. Mom keeps everything my wedding is on those tapes also.

I see these Helicopters everyday. I live near Bogue field where the do approaches and these Sea Stallions are just a 100 feet above tree top level. Man shakes my house and rattles the windows but , I LOVE IT! It lets me know we are safe here and no one will mess with us asong as the Marines are flying . THE SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF FREEDOM! GOD BLESS ALL SERVICE MEMBERS

@@TheReaper08_ It's an AH-1W SuperCobra belong to the Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167 stationed aboard the USS Kearsarge. The helicopter was painted with this out of respect for the FDNY after 9/11.

I remember there was some safety controversy about landing these huge aircraft in such a small landing area and of course being so close to downtown. But hey, they put on a good show and it was worth it.

I have a family member who was a v22 pilot and just got out of the marines. At that time the rules changed which allowed his flight hours to count for fixed wing. He is now co-pilot for major commercial airline.

We had some landings in City's too with the EMS was a BO105 (now Eurocopter of course) and a Bell UH 1D with the Bell it was kinda tricky at Times.

Cool stuff!! But apparently that big helicopter is a real danger to fly.. It's being replaced? Just getting old.. the navy needs to get replacements for these, not just the army and airforce!! The MH-53E is a version of what arguably is the Navy and Marine Corps' most crash-prone major helicopter type. Dozens of accidents involving the Navy's MH-53E Sea Dragon minesweeper and the Marines' CH-53E Super Stallion transport have killed 132 crew and passengers since the type first flew in 1974.

Helicopter design has changed a bit since I served in the late 1980s. So I wonder if the exaust deflector were made purposely larger to except more air into the front of the shroud and mix with the exhaust to give the heat signature a smaller surface area?

tech nician Kinda, sorta... they have more surface area, better insulated/hear shielded, and yes, they flow more air through to DIFFUSE the hot exhaust gasses, lowering the heat signature significantly to make it much harder for I.R. guided missiles (particularly the newer MANPADS) to achieve a good lock. This also means that I.R. countermeasures (like decoy flares) have a better chance of working. They also reduce the noise from the gas turbine engine, but with the two-blade rotors the reduction is marginal- the rotors are much louder than the engines...

@@jakehampton9746 I thought the AH-1Z had a 4 blade rotor and slightly long wings with extra mounting stations for missiles/rockets? It looks like the AH-1W to me plus there is a big cobra on the side and a cobra is not a viper in the reptile world so I would like to think they got their emblem correct.

Steve Criscione it has four blades, they just never show it in the video. Easiest way to tell is the exhaust ducting is different.

@@jakehampton9746 in the beginning of the video when flying it has only 2 blades though. You can pause between the 15 and 20 second marks and get some real clear shots. Those exhaust ports were used starting on the AH-1W as far as I can tell and it has the smaller nose because the Viper has a larger turret for its targeting system.

Is not bad on helicopter in super heavy-duty without any weapon is clear for it, if was on land in downtown.
