GK: - Turner - Callender - Johnson (Horvath and Steffen haven’t played and likely won’t before the camp, Slonina will be given time to adjust to his new club) LB: - Robinson - Jones CB: - Richards - McKenzie - Zimmerman - Robinson (CCV injured, GGG will make some excuse for Ream, Brooks is blacklisted, and Trusty will be given time to settle at his club) RB: - Dest - Scally DM/CM: - McKennie - Musah - de la Torre - Acosta (Adams injured) AM/W: - Mihailovic - Aaronson (Reyna injured, Tillman adjusting to new team) LW: - Pulisic ST: - Balogun - Pepi - Ferreira RW: - Weah - Sargent (Booth injured)
I'm calling it. Roldan, Arriola, Lletget, Zardes, Jesus Ferreira, Morris, Moore, Jackson Yueill, Acosta, etc. will be called to re-establish the VIBE. And then Berhalter will bench Balogun for Altidore.
The Uzbeks are gonna drink our battery fluid. In any event, I think you're right about Gregg with Gio. But if he's gonna hold any grudges, I think Pepi could be the guy who faces his wrath. With Balogun and Sargent around, he doesn't necessarily _need_ him.
UEFA has Euro Qualifying. CONMEBOL has 2026 WC Qualifying. AFCON has African Cup of Nations Qualifying. Which leaves CONCACAF and AFC. Who is available you'd have them play?
I think GGG might bring Trusty. His potential to play LB on top of CB makes me like the idea, and I do think GGG will want to try it in training. Who knows, maybe trusty is good at PowerPoint memorization.
My roster Goalkeeper: Drake Callander Josh Cohen Roman Celantano Fullbacks: John Tolkin Dejuan Jones Shaquell Moore DeAndre Yedlin Julian Gressel Centre Backs: Aaron Long Walker Zimmerman Miles Robinson Mark McKenzie Midfielders: Cristian Roldan Gianlucia Busio James Sands Paxton Pomykal Luca De La Torre Yunus Musah Forwards: Christian Pulisic Folarin Bolagun Jesus Ferreira Timothy Weah Jordan Morris
My Prediction for Berhalters September Roster: Turner Calendar Sean Johnson Dest Scaly Yedlin Arob Zimmerman Richards Long Miles Robinson Neal Acosta Cardoso LDLT Musah McKennie Brendan Aaronson Weah Pulisic Cowell Morris Balogun Ferreira Pepi Sargent
My thoughts: With these 2 weaker opponents I could see Gregg/USSF trying some of the players who were on the GC Preliminary roster but didn't make the squad due to injuries or other commitments. Therefore, I think we could see T. Tillman instead of Acosta. He was injured after his switch but before the GC so wasn't available over the summer. Other option instead of Acosta for me would be Tessmann, who was getting married during GC. CCV is dealing w/ a hamstring injury.....if severe enough to keep him sidelined for club matches I fully expect Gregg to bring in his buddy Aaron Long... and keep the streak of most undeserving MLS player ever to be included in USMNT camps/games. I'd love to see Yedlin be excluded, but I think you're right that he'll be there. Would prefer Paredes or Wiley brought in as 3rd option LBs to start getting them experience with the Sr. Team. Lastly, as mentioned in some other posts, I think Ferreira will be included as a winger instead of a CF. During the GC he was tried out wide and we all know GGG loves him some Jesus.
What do you think of JMi Tolkin from Red Bulls. He's a top defender in the MLS and has been linked to transfer rumors for 2024. Especially since it's friendly and he's he's already on the senior roster pool, see how he does. Thoughts?
Our left back position is thin, but I like Jaheim Headley (Huddersfield Town) of the EFL Championship, and Nathaniel Brown (1 FC Nuremberg) of the German Bundesliga 2. Also Jonathan Gomez on loan at CD Mirandes (SPA D2) and Mauricio Isáis at Deportivo Toluca (MEX D1). Sam Vines and George Bello are not exactly knocking it out of the park, maybe Gregg will dig a bit deeper on the depth chart at this position, let's hope he digs in the right places.🤞
I like that you're looking at some dual nationals but in the only game Headley has played so far this season he got a straight red 13 minutes in, we can do better than him
@@bradenhines1809 Red cards occur in many players careers it never excludes a player from consideration unless chronic like Suarez the Vampire. Do you have any ideas on who you prefer at LB or who is playing in Europe at his position that you like?
Are we playing vs Oman and Uzbekistan so MLSers can get more playing time, or are we preparing for CONCACAF qualifiers? Couldn't we even get Nigeria and Cameroon? Those would be games that would aid development.
i think Antoniee Robinson, matt hoppe. leave out morris then keep both sargent & wright. get a friendly againist australia , republic of ireland and england
I don’t remember his name but I know there was an Uzbek player that used to play for Roma sporadically. Uzbekistan has at least come close to qualifying for the World Cup whereas I don’t believe Oman has
Honestly at this point I wouldn’t put it past Gregg to give Callender a game, he’s Messi’s teammate and they have to promote MLS’s great great goalkeepers 🙃
I don't know if Gregg Berhalter's reappointment can ever deal anything. However, Oman and Uzbekistan are quite light opponents. Oman is a tough nut in Asian qualifiers recently, but Oman doesn't have the depth in their team. This is why Oman has struggled playing opponents from outside Asian boundary. Uzbekistan is far better but they are like Mexico of Asia, constantly botched up at the decisive matches. USMNT can claim two wins out of twos. Thing is, not much.
I don't like how the USMNT plays under Berhalter, should've hired someone else. Better yet I believe "Tata" Martino would have been an excellent candidate to be the new manager of the United States national team. Managing Mexico messed him up big time.
I’m really hoping to see Steffen on the roster. We haven’t seen him play in so long I’m interested to see how he could do if we give him an opportunity against a weaker team
You're sleeping on Trusty, like usual. We know Gregg overrates MLS players, but one thing he gets right is that he respects EPL guys, and Trusty was picked up by an EPL team.
I really like the opponents for the guys, because these two teams are on the cusp of a World Cup berth each. Asian preliminaries start pretty soon, too.
looking at Uzbekistan and Oman they have the Asian cup to prepare for in January. naturally they should be taking these games vs the USA seriously. both those teams are kinda mid in asian competition but they’re both fighters and come out fighting off the get go. Uzbekistan played morocco a few years ago and i was surprised. it’ll be 2 good competitive friendlies. both nations have a big chance to make it out of they’re respective groups. i expect them to be competitive against us and i hope they will be for our sakes too. the US needs to not underestimate them.
What does Vines need to do to get another shot? He was yhe starting left back for Antwerp as they won the league. Is he a system guy that only produces for Antwerp?
These two matches are more or less meaningless, in terms of playing reasonably strong opponent to test the tactics and players. If we win, it doesn’t mean anything. If we lose, that definitely shows how terrible we are. So sad…😢
There's a lot of pessimism in the comments, and I understand why, but I'm going to be a little more optimistic and predict that given the fact that we are still really early in the cycle, and given the level of the opposition in this window, Berhalter will take the opportunity to see some newer players he hasn't yet had a chance to work with directly rather than the old mediocre MLS lifers. Plus, we don't need to bring those guys in for their experience or leadership as most of the main guys have now been through a full World Cup cycle and can no longer be considered inexperienced. I think that given the CCV injury, Zimmerman or Robinson is probably there, but I think that Berhalter will want to get a look at Auston Trusty. I could also make an argument for Jalen Neal, but I think that's less likely. Also, given my previous reasoning, I could see a guy like Caleb Wiley called in over Yedlin, perhaps Paredes over Morris, and maybe even a guy like Tanner Tessman over Acosta. I also happen to agree that he won't bring Jesus Ferreira this time. Remember, Arriola was also one of his guys, but was ultimately left off of the World Cup squad for better players. I'm sure he still likes Jesus, but the four guys you mentioned in the video are simply better players at the moment. Also, he clearly likes Sargent and Wright, as they were on the World Cup squad, and I have no doubt that he wants to get an in-person look at Balogun. One could make the argument that he leaves Pepi off given that he's not getting many minutes early in the season , but that would be a PR nightmare...
