Great video. Was not aware of the LOC so thank you. I want to see MPA do very well. We need more companies like theirs in this country.

I just got and run an MPA DS9 LOC also! The pistol is phenomenal! I went away from my DAA Xip pouches to Henning T900s which will be in the coming week. Running a BSG race holster similar to the Flex you have also…..

I'd like a rules optimized sao sig x5, a new CZ tacsport, the beretta that seems like its optic moint needs a redesign, and hammer fired Walther to open up LO options.

Excellent Excellent videos!.I have a couple questions. I've shot idpa for years and want to try uspsa but at same time want to try the idpa version of this gun.I would like to know if the trigger is just as short in the non loc uspsa version of the ds9 hybrid?Basically between the 2 uspsa models that they offer.I would want to shoot the aluminum grip i think.I would also like to know if the grip in the idpa version is thinner than the uspsa version?.I can definitely tell the mag well in the uspsa model is bigger than the idpa model, but I'm not sure.I am going to be purchasing one of the 2, either idpa or uspsa version I'm not sure yet though. Thanks for the help!.

Dimensionally speaking, the guns are identical… so grip size and trigger reach/distance are the same… you can also get different trigger shoe sizes regardless of which one you choose.

Great video dude! I may be looking at an LOC to augment my aluminum DS9, they are so insanely dense the recoil doesnt exist. But like you said the aluminum just moves around better! Im considering fitting a nitro fin and shielded safties to my AL DS9 for kind of a mix between the two.

What you’re talking about was my old LO setup for USPSA. I just took my Aardvarks (before I ported them)… and stuck on a Nitrofin, Larger Magwell, and the Double Tap Shielded Safety (single sided though). It was a fun setup!

I’m currently in Carry Optic with a Beretta 92X Performance. Currently I’m trying to decide between the MPA DS9 LOC that you have and the Laugo Arms Alien Limited Optic Kit. The Alien seems to be a great gun. But the MPA lifetime warranty seems to a good deal too. Plus I heard great things abouts about MPa. Have you tried the Alien by any chance? If you had to decide between Alien and the DS9 would you still choose the DS9 or the Alien?
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 2 месяца назад
I have to regretfully say I haven’t had a chance to shoot the Alien yet. I did shoot a major match with David (@thehumblemarksman) and he did well with it. However, I’d have to say it’s a no for me as of today even without having shot it. Why? Because one of the highest priorities for me in specifically competition isn’t how it shoots… but how reliable it is, its usability as well as if it goes down… what now? I’ve been on squads where 4 guys in had them in competition… as of now… David’s is the only one I’ve seen run reliably. When they go down… they go down hard lol… clearing malfunctions has to be the hardest thing I’ve seen as the chamber sits so far down in there that clearing it quick… even if its a stovepipe… takes additional time vs nearly anything else. Secondly, they seem to not be able to run and/or feed the first round with a fully loaded mag… this was the case for all shooters that I’ve seen. Lastly, I manipulated the CELO and it was rather easy to accidentally grab the middle rail (sits higher in the CELO)and not rack it back… you really have to think About where you place your hands. But you shoot a 92x so it wouldn’t be necessarily unfamiliar from a racking perspective. All that to say, do I want to shoot and perhaps own one… absolutely! But criteria for a competition setup for me extends beyond shoot ability and the desire to shoot something unique (maybe even better!). It has to perform in the other checkboxes and just isn’t there for me yet.
@Gabierama
@Gabierama 2 месяца назад
@@TheGentlemanGunner I agree with you. I think shooting a MPA will be more reliable and more familiar to me. Also the lifetime warranty of MPA is very convenient. Thank you so much!

Do you think the improvement in fit you notice with the LOC is model based (e.i. specific to the LOC) or do you think they've improved the fit, etc. across the board?
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 3 месяца назад
I think it’s evolution to it all. There’s nothing at least on the website in their features/specs that suggest that there is additional attention given to the LOC in terms of fitting.
@SEAKPhotog
@SEAKPhotog 3 месяца назад
@TheGentlemanGunner Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. I'm really torn between an LOC, regular Hybrid and the IDPA. We don't have any sanctioned events in my part of Alaska so I can use anything I want in out local comps but we're hoping to move to the lower 48 in a couple years so it'd be nice to get something I could use in as many Divisions as possible, steel plate included.

@@SEAKPhotog before I had these and ported the barrels on my other guns… I would toss on a larger magwell and Nitrofin. That’s what I ran at Handgun Nationals this past year.
@SEAKPhotog
@SEAKPhotog 3 месяца назад
@TheGentlemanGunner Yep, I'm wondering if I could go the opposite direction and get an LOC with an aluminum grip and remove the nitrofin and large magwell when I wanna make weight. I think it might work. I've already checked with MPA and they'll install an aluminum grip on the LOC and cut the price by $300 as well. Frankly, the LOC with steel grip might just be too heavy for me. My TS2 with hollow brass grips is about as heavy as I wanna go at 53 ounces with a mag, and while I enjoy using it for stationary stuff, I much prefer my S2 and Bul Air (polymer grip) for dynamic stuff. We'll see. It's a fun dilemma.
@timothygarrity5181
@timothygarrity5181 3 месяца назад
Tbis model is pretty heavy.I called mpa amd had them weigh one that didn't have the nitrofin or steel frame.It was the uspsa model that had the regular slide stop on it.The weight of the gun was between 41 and 42 ounces if that sounds right to you?.That model also had the full length dust cover.
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 3 месяца назад
Yeah that sounds about right with a full length dust cover… my IDPA version is 44oz with an empty mag and optic… only difference is that it has the Butler cut on the dust cover and smaller magwell

@TheGentlemanGunner Thanks for all the help, great channel!.Do you find yourself shooting slower times with the ds9s compared to polymer guns.Probably slower on transitioning from target to target.I could be wrong though.
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 3 месяца назад
@@timothygarrity5181 and I appreciate you watching! To answer your question… generally no… while swinging and manipulating the gun is a touch slower for me… the forgiveness of having a heavier gun when I settle on a target is the trade off… and if I pull off to early (which I’m guilty of)… there’s that tiny delay that works in my favor… but once I get some additional time on this gun I’ll probably be happy about it
@timothygarrity5181

@TheGentlemanGunner I think even the lighter aluminum version would still be more helpful then than a glock because it would stay on target due to weight.

Hi i talked to you recently about the ds9 hybrid. I decided on the stainless and black and ordered it.I do have a question and it may sound silly but i am new to the 1911 platform.I have just shot glocks and xdms in idpa for a long time.I don't want a grip safety and when i went to the options part i chose stationary Beavertail. Is this the correct option if i don't want a grip safety?. If i were to order the black ds9 it gives me a non functional option with the Beavertail. The stainless and black model is the only one out of the ds9s that gives me a stationary Beavertail option,all other ds9s gives you the non functional option.Does it sound like i picked the right option if i don't want a grip safety?.Thanks!.

I have a priest coming and I am ping-ponging with the grip material. Since you have both MPA in alu and steel grips, which one do you like best? I shoot a shadow 2 at the moment and I know you changed from there so I wanted to hear your thoughts
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 4 месяца назад
That’s tough… I just shot my first match today with the this gun in the video (Steel Grip)… At first I kinda thought it was heavy… but this gun settles well. I can tell you though it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if I got stuck with the aluminum grip. I’ve come to appreciate guns in the 40oz to 45oz range as I personally feel that’s an ideal competition gun weight while being heavy enough to reap the benefits of a lighter gun in manipulation and transitions. The heavier guns are easier to shoot on the move and if you hate recoil impulse… it definitely mutes it quite a bit.
@Icabueno
@Icabueno 4 месяца назад
@@TheGentlemanGunnerI see, that’s good to know. The one consideration I had is that the balance of the gun would probably be better with the steel frame, since it pushes the CG back toward the hand. Coming from a shadow 2 I feel like 2011s can have better balance. Maybe when your detailed review comes out that helps me make a decision
@TheGentlemanGunner
@TheGentlemanGunner 4 месяца назад
@@Icabueno what I will say about the S2 is it needs the brass grips in general… a tad muzzle heavy for my preference. Most 2011s are balanced well… and having more weight in the hands is ideal. I’ll have to think of a way to describe once I do the formal review on the DS9 because when I Dry-Fire… it feels heavy… shooting it is where you’re like… “how did that happen?!?!” The hits just show up for me… I shot 93% of points today just to give a point of reference

FWIW, I'm new to 2011s as well and also shoot an S2 OR and TS2. I bought a Bul Air competition 2011 as my second 2011. It has a polymer grip but a full, solid block of a dust cover. I thought the balance and recoil impulse might be an issue. To my pleasant surprise, the gun balances just fine and I'm pretty sure the polymer eats up some of the recoil. It's tied as my favorite gun alongside my S2OR. It's a joy to shoot and I shoot it very well. Surprisingly, I like the lighter weight and more nimble feeling. With that in mind, I'm very close to ordering a DS9 Hybrid or maybe an LO Comp with an aluminum grip. 🙂
