I think the reason for carry optics being the most popular is because its the cheapest you can get into and have full mags. More indicative of the state of the economy than peoples preference on guns. I got into carry optics when I was a broke engineering student. Now I shoot limited major. What I hear regularly is that most would have fancy 2011s and major ammo if they could afford it.

i think most people just want to shoot the sport in a practical sense. Me and my squadmates have our cool range guns, but i shoot my carry guns in all matches.

As a newer competitor it would be cool if they opened it up to more calibers. For example carry calibers like 380 etc. I think that would help draw a lot of more casual type people who want to train with their carry gun. But i know there's probably issues knocking over steel. I am used to doing outlaw match 2 gun and lots of people would bring interesting stuff.

I shot limited minor with my TS2. I would love to shoot it with a TSA 40 s&w….. but don’t want to pay for the ammo. Haha. So I shoot production with shadow 2. Maybe in the future.

Limited #s are skewed because a lot of beginners come out and shoot limited with whatever gun that they have.

I love production. I find it a much more practical, buzz word, division. Understand that every match is a game. Even though they call themselves the USPSA with practical being right in the middle of the acronym. While its fun to shoot with an open gun I dont believe its really practical. At 3 am when someone breaks into my house im not reaching for my open gun or even my carry optic gun. Those guns have "what ifs" What if my batteries are dead? What if my gun isnt absolutly clean? I shoot an SP-01 in production and id trust it with my life 1000% at 2 am or 1 in the afternoon. Thats practical. Im not saying the other classes shouldnt exist, like I said its a game, but if production class dies, its no longer practical.

At home defense distance you can probably shoot well enough just using posture and no dot. How often do your batteries go flat?

IMHO the genesis of major/minor stemmed from the fact that back in the in the Jeff Cooper days......the 45acp was a more effective defensive round. So if our cofs are suppose to simulate defensive scenerios ..... the the more effective round should be rewarded. Ammo manufacturing has come a long way today so that argument is no longer valid. That being said, eliminate the power factor, keep it at 125 for all divisions and score every gun as minor, which will still reward accuracy.....and eliminate the need to reload.

The original rationale for major vs minor is no longer relevant. Eliminate major and score everyone minor. DVC is still preserved and then you can't reload to dangerous levels for higher scores

100 million gun owners and less than 37,000 members in the competitive shooting arena. Maybe because it costs too much, among other reasons. Spare time in someone's life, etc.

37k in just USPSA. That does not include all of the other shooting sports; sporting clays, skeet, trap, NRL, PRS, IDPA, outlaw 3-Gun, PCSL, small bore, palma, etc. But your point still stands, it is a shame that more people do not compete to sharpen their skills, meet like-minded people and have fun.

@@prepandpress Agreed. I wish there was more time and more money in my life. Also, where I live, everything is highly regulated, so three gun is nearly impossible.

@@prepandpress Most of what I see on You Tube and Shooting USA is just a "carrot-on-a-stick". Something that is always just out of reach. The other 49 states can do anything that they want, but not us. Mind you, I did not vote for the people that make my life miserable.
