USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN Aircraft Carrier - Lincoln's contract was awarded to Newport News Shipbuilding on 27 December 1982; her keel was laid 3 November 1984 at Newport News, Virginia. The ship was launched on 13 February 1988 and commissioned on 11 November 1989. She cost $4.5 billion in 2007 dollars.
The USS Abraham Lincoln dimensions are usually given in football fields (more than three end to end) and acreage (4.5-acre deck surface). Breaking it down to more familiar terms, Abe stretches 1092 feet bumper to bumper, has a 206-foot height, boasts a 97,000-ton curb weight, and carries a $4.5 billion retail price. This is the world's largest vehicle and the planet's most powerful warship.
The Abraham Lincoln personnel consume 660 gallons of milk, 620 pounds of hamburger, 800 pounds of vegetables, 900 pounds of fruit, 180 dozen eggs, and 13,000 sodas over the course of 20,000 daily meals.

The "Stinkin' Lincoln" lol, I used to be stationed across the pier from her onboard the USS Rodney M. Davis FFG-60. For those that are wondering this ship is stationed out of Everett, Washington.

@torolof you can find flaw with everything, yes it's a warship, and going on a vacation when there is hunger around us might seem excessive, flying and driving with pollution and global warming is taking place, eating fast foods and processed foods that harm our bodies, go down the list...but then I can find beauty in everything in some way. As the quote by Confucius goes 'Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.' I even find beauty in a spider. The ship was amazing as was the crew.

I had some fun on The USS Abraham Lincoln. The state of Washington in the early 2000's was the best experience. Everett, Bremerton, Seattle!

The Lincoln is currently located at Norfolk Va. The ship was built at Newport News Va. The carrier's keel was laid Nov. 3, 1984. The ship was recently on two deployments to the middle east. As of now, it is in dry dock at Newport news going through a complete re fitting. My son has been assigned to the Lincoln since 2009.

I remember seeing the Lincoln back in 1992. I was on vacation in Cebu Philippines, this was after Mt. Pinatubo erupted. I was at the beach swimming, when I came up for air this giant grey wall came sailing past. When I looked up I saw the 72 on the side of the island, and a lot of the crew looking down at all the bikiny clad gals on the beach. I swear I could see some of those sailors drooling! Lol!

I don't know why a contract for a Carrier goes through an awarding process when Newport News is the ONLY ship builder that can handle a ship of this magnitude. Only one shipyard in the U.S. can build a 100,000 ton boat. More red tape.

Looks like the USS Obama from Black Ops 2 :3 Anyways, aircraft carriers don't seem like a big deal but a huge ship with tons of planes is actually really effective

Imagine if somebody blew up the fuel reserve on this ship though O_O

Sebastian Oris Johannessen I realize this comment is 3 years old but this ship is nuclear powered. No fuel reserve. She will run for about 25 years without ever needing to be refueled.

trust me..that tour wasn't free. Your hard earned tax dollars paid to have that built to support the infinite military industrial complex. All in the name of the petro dollar. For the high price passed down to you, they should give everyone 90" flat screen TV's as they get off the ship
@samimoring1235
@samimoring1235 Год назад
curious..granted your statement was 9yrs ago.. you forgot to complain of the "tax dollar" purchase purpose..what this carrier does! maybe you don't get a 90" TV, which, even 9 yrs later that don't make, but this gigantic carrier provides a unity of races to fight & control freedom for 1 race.. Americans. you can bitch&moan about where your tax money goes but when it goes towards military expenses..put a sock in it.
