This is the complete breakdown and history of the USS Titan A from #startrek Picard Season 3. It's a Neo-Contitution Class and/or Constitution Class III starship, I don't think they could decide. It's also a refit and a new ship, I also don't think they could decide. Enjoy!

Maybe I'm just partial to the Treks of the 80's and 90's because that's what I grew up with. But it seems to me that there were fewer head-scratch moments (e.g. the Titan being renamed Enterprise) during that era. I know that the Berman Treks had the occasional bout with poor or unrealistic writing, but it seems that the writing of those shows was generally a bit more "realistic" by Trek standards. Having said that, I do agree that season 3 of Picard was enjoyable to watch.

NOTE: In 2383, the USS Enterprise-E had an intense battle against the criminal agent Nero's ship, the Enterprise-E was seriously damaged, and then taken to the Planilia Fleet docks on Mars, it was refurbished and decommissioned, taken to the museum of the Star Fleet, 3 years later, the USS Enterprise-F, of the Odyssey class, is launched into space under the command of Captain Va'kel Shon, of the Andorian species, who gave up commanding the Enterprise-F after 13 years in command in 2400 , when his family was assimilated and killed by the Borg, in a paradisiacal planetary colony of Andor in the Vega system, in Andorian space. Va'kel Shon issued his notice of resignation to his friend, Admiral Elizabeth Shelby, who soon after promoted Shon to admiral. Va'kel Shon was in the past a career officer on the USS Trident, where Shelby was captain of the ship. In 2401, Admiral Shelby attempted to commandeer the USS Enterprise-F under her new command, but was killed by the Borg attack, which destroyed the Enterprise internally along with the 200 ships in service in cerimony of new command on Base Sol. Six months later, with the success of defeating the Borg Queen's base, USS Titan-A was changed to a new name change designation and high command prefix, to USS Enterprise NCC 1701-G, where Admiral Tuvok handed over the command of the ship, captain 7 of 9.

Great video. I don’t understand why the enterprise d style is so hated by the designers. It’s like all they want is to get away from it. So it’s a running joke even with them.
@Sky_Guy

Renaming it to the Enterprise-G felt like such an awkward move, like it was an obligatory, studio-mandated note they had to follow. They went through all the trouble of clumsily explaining how the original Titan's parts were somehow incorporated into the Titan-A despite bearing no visual similarities, then negated the need to explain any of that of it by just making the ship part of the Enterprise's legacy. Not to mention they had to clumsily decommission the brand-new Enterprise-F to make room for the next letter. It's just such a weird move overall, I dislike every part of it.

Clumsily is a good word to describe that entire show, including the 3rd season, I just stopped caring about logic with this show(or Discovery), everyone involved in the writing and producing are just not in the same level of the old shows, at least in the 3rd season they tried to give the audience what they wanted, although it was still...Clumsily, but I don't blame them, they simply don't have the ability to do better so why bother in getting angry about minor things as logic?

@@E_y_a_l Indeed. I can forget that the Enterprise is no longer the top of the line ships of the fleet. I can even forget the awkward design of this new "Enterprise" (which, I admit, is its own charm). But I can't get over the fact this disregards the ordeal and achievement of not only the ship and her crew, but also the previous ships in the "Titan" lineage. It's like Starfleet saying that compared to the Enterprise lineage, the legacy of the Titans, and by extension the rest of the fleet as well, doesn't matter, which I don't think is the message they want to sent.

This design looks pretty good. The angular and flat aesthetics looks far more authentic and practical than the modern trend of making everything organic and round. I appreciate the callout to the original refit motion picture era, which IMO, is the best the Enterprise has looked of all of them (even 1701-D). The "video game" quality CIG and FX is still a problem though. The interior lighting is far too dark with that forced "moody" ambiance. At least they adhered to most of Roddenberry's laws of ship design. The Nacelles are in pairs. The Nacelles have an unobstructed line of sight to each other. The nacelles have an unobstructed forward view, with the Bussard collectors visible from the front. The bridge must be visible from the exterior (preferably on top of the saucer). The overall hull has a logical design (ie: no strange voids or spinning rings ect). Red and Blue engine glows. However, it violates one of the more important ones IMO, that the exterior of the ships hull be presented as clean and bright. Ships in these recent series are portrayed far too dark, aggressive and metallic, relying too much on post processed accent lighting (like a neon bar sign).

Brilliant and hilarious as usual. You are a lot kinder about these laughable decisions than me, my friend. There's so much hand-wavy, garbage retconning in this series that I can't have any respect for it. The 'Neo-Constitutuon' class is a risible notion that belongs in bad fan fiction, not the actual show. Including both TOS Film and TNG phaser-era phaser arrays is plain silly. Like you say, renaming the Titan to Enterprise-G is insulting to both ships, and wasn't necessary in the slightest. The fact the E and F lasted five minutes each also cheapens the name and shows how little intelligent planning went into this story. It's like watching a bunch of kids get handed the IP and want to make their own new Enterprise. The Inquiry Class was so cheap and forgettable they binned it off themselves. Hundreds of ships just gone, like they cost as little as their CGI renderings. Rather than feeling like a space navy of professionals crewing costly, important vessels that take years to construct, Starfleet has zero verisimilitude in this series whatsoever and the ships feel utterly expendable. I really hope Star Trek isn't about to interpret the shallow praise the S3 fan service got from a weary fandom as a sign that these folks should be running Star Trek from now on. Some of the lack of judgement that has grounded the franchise began at the end of Voyager (Ablative armour, multi-vector attack mode ships, holocrew), and if that isn't recognised, it's unlikely to be remedied. Star Trek should feel real, just out of reach. It should make you want to become an astronaut and hope for the future of exploration. The bar for a great Star Trek ship is this: would it stand up to a Star Trek: The Motion Picture 4:45 love letter tour? If not, start again. The ship is the star of the show; cast it accordingly.

I never liked the holograms, it's such a dumb idea as how do you focus on what you're looking at when the screen is semi-transparent and you're also seeing everything behind it (especially moving things)?

🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and very well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and form possibly provided indeed, My thing though is that this is the 2nd time that the Enterprise has changed the name of another starship in order make it it's own with a new letter designation and taking it away from the previous Captain and removal of his command along with the removal of the ships true name and designation as well, Enterprise-A was originally the Yorktown and now the Titan-A is the Enterprise-G WTF!,🤔?.

They could have made fans sooo happy by just letting the Titan be the Titan - the Luna Class USS Titan. She'd be a fraction of the age we see Excelsiors and Mirandas flying around in TNG, there's more than a little precedent for starships hanging around for decades.

"What better way to honor a ship that already has a namesake lineage, a ship whose crew sacrificed their lives, including its captain, who valiantly halted a full-scale invasion, who saved Earth and by extension the enitre Federation - what better way to honor it... than renaming it." Omg thank you! This has honestly bothered me so much since I first saw the episode. I mean, come on, why would you rename a ship that already has done so much on its own, to honor someone else's achievements? If anything, I feel like it's downright disrespectful towards the Titan and its crew. It's almosot like everything they did got swept under the rug like it didn't matter at all.

It was the plasma vents that they opened up on the nacelles. I always felt we Trekkie fans were cheated when they decided to re-christened the Titan-A to the Enterprise-G. We should have gotten an entirely new ship. I mean grant the E-A was supposedly a re-christened from the U.S.S. Yorktown. Still...we should have gotten a new ship especially when we only saw the Enterprise-F for a couple of episodes. Edit: Also the Titan started off as a physical model that Bill designed. He's posted pictures on Facebook. They created it digitally for Season 3.

These are always a special treat. :) Yeah, the theft of Titan's lineage (would that be considered stolen valor?) was the one real sour note this season. Otherwise even the stuff that didn't _quite_ land was still fun overall.

One of things I pondered the most about the Titan-A was the lack of a designated Ops officer and station. They had Science and Communication on opposite sides and Conn and tactical in front. Presumably there were other stations for Engineering and Mission. The Defiant didn't have an Ops station but strangely had a Science station. I always felt like Communication morphed into the Ops station, but the D saw Tactical sometimes handle Communication (I guess nothing to do otherwise?). So now Communication is back, with Ops folded into Conn?

It looks quite good from most angles, and it also seems noticeably beefed up as well. That neck should be relatively spacious! Thank you also for identifying that scale model by *Bill Krause at Modeler Magic,* and also for the *Star Trek music by Captain Meatshield.* I'll explore both of those further.

I don’t think there’s any difficulty fitting the OG Constitution and the Disco/SNW Constitution into the same timeline, given how many refits the Constitution had even before the movie big one. Remember when it started out with spikes on the nacelles, a giant lumpy bridge, and a grill of holes at the end of the nacelles instead of the more well known ball (the ball having also been present on the Phoenix and the NX class)? I can see the SNW Enterprise as just another refit, easily.

I love the design tbh. I was getting really tired of increasingly sleek, thin, and narrow ships. I absolutely adore the bold chunky design, it makes it feel like a vehicle made for function, not a luxury yacht. Also I was getting really tired of the no-necks era. Let ships have necks! They don't all have to, but the necks make for much more striking and interesting designs.

let's not forget it also took us back to what Gene Roddenberry created and the movies and Shows many of us grew up with and retained their history UNLIKE that Crap Universe Abrams created which is a total Joke, and sucks Tribble Balls. Only show that was as bad as the Abrams Universe was Discovery which finally Thank God has been cancelled. And I personally don't even consider either one True Trek... as they are both just lame and a disgrace to Trek. Especially that crap known as the Abrams universe as It ruined Everything we knew, Loved, and grew up with. It slapped Gene Roddenberry in the face and tried to erase Everything he had created. and turn Trek into a pirated Abrams version.... where as the final season of Picard put things right and gave us the Trek Universe we know and love back again. and was like Welcoming home a long lost friend.

Once I tuned into Star Trek and a minute later, the super lady got into a turbo lift and proceeded to fly it around like they were in a cosmic void. I sat there numbly trying to figure out why… where… was this a fantasy sequence? A dream? A delusional? A Q manipulation? No… just a lot of room inside the ship where free floating turbo lifts zoom all over…. There’s no point in trying to apply reason on any level to the new shows.

Really don’t care for the shape of the saucer section. It needs to be a complete circular design to really work for me. But I hated the JJ Verse ship and Discovery a lot more. And damn near anything from ST Online should be consigned to the lowest pits of hell. And you damn kids get offa my lawn!

"I wanted to bring back that clean look of the Constitution on all the poster" and then the ship didnt do that at all and instead looked like an awful mishmash of TMP and early 24th century designs. Matalas needs to stay far far away from any more Trek. His ideas are only barely better than the stuff in Season 1 and 2 of Picard, and he can only nostalgia bait. And every unique design from Picard has been hot trash. (Not that the STO designs are much better).

The USS course overcorrection. LOL. The production designers listened to complaints about the ships without understanding what was being criticized. Now instead of ships that look 300 years too advanced for their era, we get a ship that would look fine during the lost era even though it's supposed to be decades after TNG.... FFS nutrek, can you do anything right?

20:04 I have to disagree. While Picard S03 was watchable compared to the previous two seasons, it was still terrible for its reliance on nostalgia in absence of actual good storytelling. And Strange New Worlds S01, while having one or two minor faults, was an acceptional season right out of the gate. I try to ignore Discovery as much as I can, and Section 31 is going to be a travesty, best never spoken of again.

Looks like shit IMHO. And why they chose to make the new Enterprise this is beyond me. And this being a follow up to the Luna class Titan is also a stupid joke. These new generations of kids ruin everything. And it seems that the E-D and E-E E-G seem way more advanced and could take this new Enterprise out with ease. Just so sad.

In Naval tradition, renaming a commissioned ship is considered bad luck. This was the case with the Enterprise A being a mess in that mess of a movie, Star Trek V. So, I wonder if that will be the case with the G.
