As a young man I was in the Marine Corps. As a old man and uncle of a sailor on the Nimitz I was fortunate to have taken a 4 day 'Tiger Cruise' on the Nimitz in, I think, 1998 or 99. It made me wish I had joined the Navy. Sailors are badass too. I loved it. Two of my sons joined the Navy. One made it and one passed away before he made it to boot camp. North Korea better stand down.

Eric Turner , This Armada along with ships from Japan are off the coast of North Korea because it's leader has threatened the United States and Japan . North Korea's people are poor and live in daily fear of their brutal and dictatorial leader who uses their economic wealth to build his own twisted ambitions of a nuclear arsenal to threaten his neighbors and the United States with nuclear destruction .I think your comments are a mix of the brainwashing you have received over the years concerning the United States military and the other is your own departure from reality . The missiles that this mad man fires are real . This isn't a game .

Hey Felix , would you care to play a game of chess ? I'll put your King in check while you're trying to impress people by making them think you're smart . Of course China is a problem as they have adopted American Capitalism while we go the way of Socialized Europe . You want to have a conversation with me ? Drop the insults . North Korea is a problem too . Sometimes this world is surprisingly Black & White .
@DininDalael
@DininDalael 6 лет назад
Machia, insults aside felix is right. North korea barely has the capability to hit the United States. It has no real navy or airforce. Its strength lies in number of troops and artillery. It also has only one major city. North Korea isn't a military threat to the US at all. The only real reason they can possibly want nukes, is to prevent invasion.

As a child in the 1980s I was able to get on the USS Kitty hawk during San Francisco Fleet week. They allowed us on the bridge and was asked by a Sailor if I wanted to sit in the Captains Seat. I remember being in utter amazement looking out those massive windows surrounded by buttons and levers. I was too young to understand the privilege being given in the moment. I recall the saoilors being so friendly and helpful it was an amazing experience.

Nice video. As a child, I attended 6th grade at the Chester W. Nimitz elementary school at Pearl Harbor. My father served aboard an APA in the Pacific during WWII, and later in submarines in the 1950s to 1961. I served as a hospital corpsman, 1970-1971. My brother later served as a chaplain for four years. More often than not, I can be found wearing NAVY and USNA t-shirts (although I'm not a graduate of the Naval Academy). We McKanes dearly love the United States Navy. Go Navy and see the world! Thanks for posting this video.

Marc P. Of course, most people in South Korea want self-defense. However, the South Korean military does not have a good situation due to defense corruption and poor military service. And we have little combat experience since the Vietnam War. Therefore, I think we should resort to US forces.

One thing to keep in mind is that this is a dog and pony show, with the ships lined up impressively close and rigidly in formation with each other. This was done purely as a PR stunt, just as a cool demonstration of this incredible international teamwork. There is a very rare photograph on line somewhere of all four Iowa class battleships together, off the Virginia coast. The only time all four were ever together. This will almost definitely be the only time three Nimitz's will ever be together, so document it for posterity.

I am curious why the CO and the Officer of the Bridge are look off the port side at the other craft? It did not look like anyone on the bridge was facing and looking over the bow. Was it to maintain spacing and speed? The helmsman seemed to be doing a lot of see-sawing. I love watching operations like that, orderly, efficient, and professionally well done.

Gee I've never run across the Dixon. I think a former boss and friend was on her. He's in CGR now. I guess it's because my ship always did the triangle--Scotland, Spain, then Bremerton for refit. Once in a while Kings Bay, Norfolk, Charleston. USS Canopus AS 34 69-72

Back in 1992-93 in my former self while on deployment on USS Ranger CV-61, during Operation Southern Watch, we pulled out of the Gulf and went off the coast of Somalia for show of force. I was working in the hanger bay (V-3) and the morning we awoke to arriving there. Imagine this large carrier off the coast and showing its force. Very impressive. I was part of history. Yea part of the team which was on board. Now fast forward to this show of force in 2017. You cannot phatom the show of force here. It just blew me away. This brought up a point of a Law that can apply to show of force, even though the law was for computers. The value of your network Squared. In this case if you have one Carrier squared, it equals = 1 Carrier. If you have two Carriers squared = 4 Carriers. If you have 3 Carriers squared = 9 Carriers. So in the show of force for this operation taking all the aircraft all the missiles on site with the other ships supporting and protecting the Carriers, you really do not want to mess with the USA.

@jesseramseyz
@jesseramseyz 6 лет назад
It actually is, the U.S Navy is the most funded, has the most aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships, destroyers, submarines, nuclear submarines and the greatest naval technology, the Americans aren't saying they're number one just because they think so, it is because they just are.

Matthew Familia The navy is one of those branches that needs fairly high funding even in peace time. You can’t wait around for a war to start before you starting building new ships or more ships, otherwise it’ll probably be over before you’ve even completed a lot of those ships

Were you stationed on board the Nimitz and don't know how to get from the O3 level to the flight deck or not know how to get to vulture row which is about the 06 level which is on the island? Amazing, we used to FLY even in heavy seas and high winds.

Question, calm seas, barely moving forward, why the hell was he constantly turning that tiny steering wheel back and forth like a speedboat pushing 80 knots on choppy water????? What was the constant calling out 5.2, 5.0 5. Something rpi non stop?
@sparkyadondavid
@sparkyadondavid 5 лет назад
I'm not trying to start a pissing war, but the "steering wheel" is called the helm. He keeps turning the helm to keep the ship on course. they keep calling the 5.2, 5.0 etc to keeps the propellers speeding up and slowing down to keep the ship in position relative to the other ships in formation.
