This was so entertaining even though it was a lopsided score! I've been asking for handicap matches for quite a while so I appreciate you trying it! It did put pressure on Govind to play better and he certainly did! Amazing play by him! He can really crush the ball! 40-0 handicap lead next time, eh?? LOL Or perhaps 30-0 lead but give Govind only one serve?? Anyway, like I said, very entertaining set!!
So true. Winston is probably better than 95% of the people watching and gets completely demolished by Govind. But he would most likely lose emphatically to a top 100 player, who would consistently lose to a top 10 player, who would lose against a top 3 player...and then there's the Djokovoc-Nadal-Federer-level...that's how far they are from normal people.
@@xngr But when number 100 loses to number 10, the score is usually 7-5 6-4. They don't beat down their opponents like Govind did here. And I thought Winston was playing well.
@@xngr There are so many levels in tennis. I am among the top players in our local club league for adults but when i faced a 16 year old who competes in national competitions i lost 6-0, 6-0.
His second serve is absolutely nasty. Winston I started watching your content a few months back and I can see a legit increase in your ability. Some of those points were really competitive and entertaining.
Honestly didn't feel like a landslide when you were able to get back a neutral ball and rally. His serve seems to be a big difference maker in level - I'd love to see you collab with Karue again to work on returns (I think a lot of us could learn from it)!
The amount of athleticism and reaction time it takes to return a real serve from a top 1000 player is beyond what recreational players are conditioned to do. Even at the 4.5-5.0 levels.
Apart from his inferior serve he needs to work on strategy. winston is a fit player but i think it comes down to just not having a solid game plan. he has played govin before so he should have a good idea of what he needds to work on
When the level difference is big enough there is no strategy that can make up for it. Whatever you do you lose. Against peers that advice is very solid though, need more than just topspin and deep.
i disagree. just cant keep up in a rally, directional control is absolutely awful, not making him run at all, just no game plan whatsoever. he is physically fit to compete but mental and stradegy just needs improvement tenfold
@@notyourpgainstructor5139he's playing against ATP rank 339 lmao, you expect him to win or something? Winston has improved a lot in a short amount of time. Don't judge his play in a vacuum vs. a legit ATP player
Short balls are so tough vs much better players. Deeper behind the baseline than normal so need to run further to get up to it, and so much pressure to not give him a look at a pass. Besides those two short ball misses and the bh volley, I legit dont know what you could have done differently, you played pretty damn well, and all 3 of those points would have been difficult to finish vs him. Govind is a monster
First of all Winston you played great. Considering you are 4.5 and facing a ATP Pro, you managed to return shots and despite the score I personally feel you hung in there and put up a fight. I am not sure if this idea will be something useful, only you can decide, but maybe ask your opponent at the end for some tips on how you can improve your strokes, game, strategy etc. You do not necessarily have to include that in your video but I think since you are playing so many high level players, use their knowledge to advance your own tennis journey.
About as brutal a beatdown as I've seen on this channel. Govind is the real deal. I love when you hit what you think is a great shot and Govind just goes open stance sliding down the line winner.
Awesome video - Govind is a hell of a player and apparently very nice guy and a good sport. Winston - that your backhand could hang with him so long and put him under pressure on some points shows how much progress you have made on that side and should give you confidence you are on the right track
Despite the scoreboard, your improvement really is showing, Winston. Your backhand is looking great. If you improve your net game, you'll have to start listing yourself as a 5.0.
Returning Govind's serve is the stuff of nightmares. Loved this video, illuminating to see just how strong ATP players you've never heard of are. Keep it up Winston!
Let’s all recognised the journey of our Mam Winston here. Playing against these pros. Losing big, sure, but playing against these guys and being there doing it, being able to win points. It is simply remarkable. Big shout up to winston! Also for creating this channel. That said, that 1 game I think we could all tell he let you take home that one. In any case, a lot us following your channel look up to you, but only when wearing proper socks though 😂
Great video! I really enjoy the "immersive" feel of all the videos Winston has posted, really give us sense of the players' movements and pace/spin of balls.
Govind a ridiculously excellent player. Remember I got out of juniors and raised my own level, then played a co-worker of a family member, who was top six hundred. Killed me. Same as another player, son of a teacher that got to top 450, who killed me with minimal effort. I was serving big too and it was easy for them! I remember at my best coming up against a top 20 in nation and he also killed me. They just play at a much higher level: their strategy is superior, their consistency is really high and their match toughness is really high. You have to be able to hang with them. I'd have lost 6-0 6-0 even being spotted 40 per game and a point, or two! If I were spotted 30 per game Govind would have, possibly, played either a perfect set or two and beaten me. Again: my game is good and it would have broken down against, and picked apart by, someone of this caliber. Even if I went for broke on first and second serves Govind would have figured me out quick. He's just at a whole other level.
As usual, great content. Winston, you may not feel like it, but to me, at least, you’re playing quite well. Your backhand seems to have more drive to it, and consistency. And your forehand, likewise, with a bit more penetration. Your net game is still a bit suspect, but that’s understandable considering that your style of play is to win from the backcourt. All of us amateurs, playing against each other, get away with too many non penetrating shots. Pros make us pay dearly every time we don’t do something meaningful. But, I would guess that right now, against players at your level, you are doing better than you did, say, 6 months ago?
Respect for anyone playing at that level. It takes a lifetime of working hard. He is in the top 0.1% for sure. I hope is able to break into top 100. I know it’s hard specially because of his height but I hope it happens.
This is awesome. I played a guy whose current career high is top 1000, and he won three straight sets without dropping a game (and I would think I’m close to your level Winston). It’s surreal playing people that take your absolute best ball and aren’t bothered by it, or you have to hit your absolute best ball multiple times in a row. Awesome vid tho!
Winston man this is a great video. Your game is evolving before our eyes. I also really enjoyed the questions you asked after the match. Falling behind in a point. Great inquiries and good spirits from both players. Keep working Winston.
"Look how they massacred my boy!" Govind's a beast, you found some rhythm though near the end, backhand is looking strong! Gotta work on that backhand volley! Great job Winston. PS: bring the socks back, you play better with them!
Another great vid. S/O to govinder, love the fact pros are willing to come play with you. We love to see it. One crazy difference I noticed in this video, Winston, you're clearly more fit than like 75% of the population, and you're very quick and fast around the court. But govinder barely looks like he's trying to chase the ball, I dunno how to explain it, it's like the pros predict based on what the likely shot is but also wait until the contact to move. Idk, I still suck at tennis and have always struggled reading the ball, the pros you play, just seems different the way they move. Keep up the great work!!
Better players track the ball better, so make decisions quicker and react faster. Winston is pretty quick, but doesn't read the flight of the ball as well, so hesitates more before moving. Also better players have better footwork, so more efficient and precise movement, better balance and are much less flat footed, so weight transference into movement happens faster. All these little things add up to a big difference in 'speed' on court.
Great video! Can you ask him how he's battling his tendonitis? Or maybe make a video on it? Super common athletic injury that I'm actually dealing with myself haha
One thing I noticed for Winston. Your racket head wasnt coming back far or fast enough. The pro was hitting so hard and fast that your racket head wasnot often in a good position to hit the ball back.
i mean got one game agaisnt atp 388 and internal really the games going through 40:40 or something. I dont know how much pace and will govind put in it. but hey winston you done a great job. The ATP guys are not just for fun there where they are.
I love how much Winston enjoyed helping Govind with his serve practice. But seriously, this was eye opening because Winston's a good player who's very quick on the court but Govind is 🔥🔥🔥!
Great video! I enjoyed it as always. One question if I can - how do you make these videos with scoreboard? Is it just a manual work in video-editting software or you have some tools? If so, could you please elaborate it a bit? Thanks in advance
no way 4.5 player would get any points against an ATP#388 unless the ATP player made the mistakes. Rallies would be single shot winners from ATP player.
Winston, you're looking much better these days from the backcourt. However, I notice you either BADLY miss, or don't do enough with short balls, as you're moving forward. You aren't getting your feet set, nor taking into consideration how much closer you are to the net, thus hitting a lot into the net when trying to use your normal groundstroke technique - which you shouldn't be doing unless your contact point is above the net at the moment you strike the ball. You also often look like you don't know what to do with these shots, sending many right back up the middle allowing your opponent to take a full crack at a passing shot. In short, your baseline side-to-side movement is considerably better than your forward/backward play. I'd recommend you start drilling with short balls and learning how and when you can crack the ball versus hitting drop shots, deep slices, angles, etc. to set yourself up for the volley winner on the next ball. You should be winning 90%+ of these points, but instead, you're losing over half of them. This is one of the big intangibles that separates a 5.0 from 4.5. The 5.0s+ rarely lose points when they get a short, weak ball to play. Your level will go up considerably if you can improve this aspect of your game. Good luck!
Yikes...TBH, Winston is not looking very 4.5 today...but happens to all of us. Been there, done that. Ah, looks liek he might have gotten better as the set wore on...
can someone explain the main reason why he's able of smashing so many winners in comparison as if he was playing against a pro? Is it mostly that the USTA guy is sending easy balls, or is it mainly poor footwork and the ball isn't actually going that fast? iI've compared side by side this match with a court level Sinner vs Carlos match and the winners this pro guy hits look a lot faster than half of the rallies in that Sinner match, that is something i've noticed a lot when you compare two pros against each other and a pro vs a lower level player. Thanks for anyone who takes the time to respond! cheers
I would change the thumbnail that you use for this and other videos - the one where you're hugging the racket. it's taken from an awkward angle and since you have such jacked shoulders it looks like your legs are tiny when they're clearly not.
awesome set! I really loved the question you asked him at the end...with all these ones that you're playing people huge levels above you it's nice to hear responses to why it felt like they were in control so quickly even when you seemingly hit a good shot back. . With challenge court hopefully you can get some of the top guys you've featured against each other Les/Hermont/Rithvik/govind/etc
One of the best aspects of this channel are the quality people (not just tennis players) that you feature, yourself included. Keep up the great content!
Govind needs to stick with that racket the way he’s serving. Winston still hitting the ball better than I’ve ever seen even if he loses all his matches. :)
Loved watching the match. This is precisely why USTA ratings are highly unreliable because different regions and size of the tennis community greatly affects how players are rated. Winston would easily be a 5.0 player in most tennis venues while I have watched 5.0 rated players who would most likely be rated 4.0 in a different location.
I would pay good money to see govind play against nick from intuitive tennis . Nick has destroyed every single person he played on his channel. Realy Wana see him humbled
i think nicks only chance is his serve. he is old now, if he plays against someone like govind who is able to place balls well he doesnt really have the athleticism to get to those balls anymore
are you sponsored by solinco now? also as usual, great video! these videos are so cool to watch as someone like me who has followed your videos since early 2021. you are SO MUCH BETTER at playing now! there's no way you're still 4.5!
you're really good. I think you need to realize that getting the ball back isn't enough when playing better players. Even if you hit a ball slowly and it is DEEP --> very good. I think if you float a few balls deep off serve you can at least be in the point. Great video!
