Whole life dedicated to the love of this instrument... Didn't marry... And was so compassionate to adopt and raise an orphan... Thousands and thousands of salutations...
certainly possible he was a homosexual. i knew more than a few Indians from that generation that had to keep it quiet, and had no interest in women. OR, as you say, he was a monk...
Absolutely true Ermitanyo, it wasn't easy to capture these concerts, while being on the road with Khansahib as driver, sound technician, tour manger and disciple. Plus Utstadji was not eager at all to be recorded, unlike today where basically every concert is recorded anyway. But I'm more than happy that people have the chance today to enjoy these jewels.
Wonderful. I am a disciple of Ustad ji. Learnt from him his dhrupad style and elements of Been for five years. Our relationship was wonderful. He would come to Shimla to just meet me and my family. I miss him much.
When I was staying with an astrologer in the old Brahmin section of Pune, there was an old man who lived in some very bare rooms upstairs. every morning he would play something similar -- completely alone, as a form of meditation.
Lawrence ji wikipedia.org/wiki/-ji i wonder how far back was this.. Poona was much different even till the end of 2a the century. the way you describe.. it might have been one of the Peths (XYZ ville ≈ XYZ peth) could it be Sadashiv Peth or any areas around Laxmi Road Tilak Road etcetera
I've been playing sitar for about a year now, but this, this is a different level of music entirely. Now I know what I'm supposed to be doing with those bass strings, but I'm afraid I'll never be truly fulfilled in the way this instrument elevates my soul. Highest praise for Ustadji 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 I am in awe, surely the divine is speaking through him.
20 years old recording, allows to people like us to discover, enjoy, be stunned about the complexity and beauty of this Sound of God.🎶 The change of mood is a rainbow of emotions wich colors the symphony of notes. cheerfulness integrates with play, joy, concentrated attention. Divine! Deep thanks to Carsten Wicke for sharing it🙏🕉️🎶✨ May many generations enjoy and share this beauty.
Happy to read that these uploads are appreciated by such genuine and receptive listeners like you, Estelle. We all have our own experiences while listening to the Queen of Indien string instruments. However yours are certainly special colourful and intensive. Always enjoy the divine Naada of the Rudra Veena. Hari AUM 🎶🕉️
Thank you, dear sir, Mr. Carsten Wicke, you have captured an exquisite piece of art that appeals at an aesthetic, emotional and spiritual level. Hopefully, these recordings last forever.
I never missed any of the live performances of the great Maestro whenever he came to Kolkata. I have been blessed with his affection to me which is a treasure of my life.
Music becomes enjoyable only when the musician enjoys the music which he or she produces... And Ustad Asad Ali Khan is one such person who is enjoying every bit of that music which he is producing. The sound produced by the beautiful instrument is.... I don't have a single word for that. So soothing... it takes you to a different world... Thank you Ustad... Thank you Ustad Carsten...for uploading... God Bless....
"Enjoy" may not be the apt word here. I think, beyond subjective appraisal, his purpose is to totally invest his essence in the flowing form, seeking to be a clear window, rather than a fanciful seeker of enjoyment.
This is one of the stairways to heaven... Ustad's incredible skill, combined with the enchanting sounds of veena, take one immediately to the higher planes... Unbelievable. Just unbelievable.
It's my dream to play the Rudra Veena! I would have LOVED to have met, talked to and listened to this Master play!! And even better yet been taught by him!!
I feel like so much tension is released when the long Alap reaches an almost wild climax and then the pakhawaj enters to add a disciplined structure to the Raag. It's profoundly satisfying. Long live dhrupad!
Works magic as a lullaby for my son!! I often use dhrupad as lullaby for him. Something magically relaximg in those lower octaves that's very soothing. Heals my migraine as well.
One very unique style of Ustadji is when he plays Meend from Pancham to Rishabh and that is so short and subtle and brings out Yaman in an exemplary manner. Only a genius can play this!!
Interesting comment, but I literally didn't understand anything. Would it be possible to explain this to the amateurs in indian music in this comment section. Would be very appreciated! (:
@@Geisterpfeifenfisch I will attempt to explain. So when Ustadji plays the glide from the 5th note (Pancham) if the scale to the second note (Rishabh), the manner in which it is done is swift and conveys to the listener the essence of Raag Yaman subtly and beautifully. Add to this the preceding and following arrangement of notes and one realises that only Ustadji can play it. Pla listen from 18:25 to 18:35 of the video and one would find the subtle Pa to Re glide or Meend at around 18:30
Simply enchanting. Considering the fact that Rudra Veena is a difficult instrument to play and there are very few exponents of this instrument, and coupled with the fact that drupad style is rare, it is such a great treat to listen to a master who literally blends himself with the instrument to create such divine music. My salaams to the master and thanks to you Carsten Wicke for posting such a gem.
@@RudraVeena hey can you please reupload the tollygunge mehfil, particularly looking for Neil Murgai and one more sitar player playing raag natbhairavi
Bohot Khoob ...... is a very little word for this Artist the way he played it, and I believe, he was looking at the wibes going out of the strings of his instrument.. Mesmerizing ..
Ustad sahib was a living legend and great master with blessings of lord Maa Saraswati. Coming generation is indebted for pur music he played. Ustad sahib had come to our house stayed with us in February 1983 to give a memorable recital under agies of MEERUT MUSIC CIRCLE MEERUT PREZ & FOUNDER LATE SHRI A S SINGHAL OM SHRIRAM 🕉
Just now learned about Rudra Verna. Absolutely a soulful rendition. Love Yaman Kalyan Raag. Naive question: is it painful to hold the Rudra Veena over your your shoulder?
There is a feel of peace , divine peace , Its a very nice stress buster Whenever i hear it i feel calm and peaceful as i have lost all the tension. It gives a sublime bliss after hearing . Incredibly played by Ustadji . When it starts 4rom lower octaves and steadily approaches the higher there is a feeling of meeting the ultimate. No words to describe ... Thank you so much for uploading
Like watch Allauddin Khan's gharana invited back into Tansen's line... Blessings to Asad-ji for being so open to the Dagari dhrupad lineage... Hari Om Tatsat
As always, another amazing and beautiful piece from ustad ji. Every ragam from his instrument opens a different door for sublime musical experience. Thank you very much for sharing this. Need many more of these for us and for posterity🙏🙏
Thank you so much! Keep this ancient wonderfulness coming. Thanks for being so thorough and excellent. I am learning sitar from a great master Nalini Vinayak... it is a blessing.
To Jujhar Singh - Yes, he got me straight away too! As soon as I heard it I just had to listen - I could not stop! His energy is amazing! He is so full of love! It is bursting out of him!
Thiis performance is magnificent! He is so obviously enjoying himself and living every note and vibration. There is never a dull moment - I don't know how he can keep up such energetic playing for so long!
This is music of the highest order. i just cannot understand why people come to concerts and spoil them for everyone with their coughing. This one, repeatedly, not even an attempt to bury it in a hand, cloth or sleeve.
thank you so much for recording and posting Ustad Asad Ali Khan's beautiful music. His music is a jewel to the world. We are blessed that you have recorded ANY of his music. I listen to all that you have posted of Ustad and listen to yours as well. It helps the spirit very much.
thanks Moreex, as much it was a great blessing to be with Khansahib as his disciple its a great pleasure now to spread his music on this channel. reaching out to listeners like you, who really value Ustadjis music for the gem it is, makes worth all trouble it took to make those recordings... i will keep on posting - enjoy.
A great shame about the skipping in the video. Like someone poking you each time you are about to fall asleep! Still, beautiful performance, many thanks for sharing.
thank you for that comment - if it were all positive comments, the section'd be getting out of balance ;) everything's vibration and these human beings know how to provide vibrations touching the soul.
As he starts playing on the lower octaves of the Ragas, the melodious shower of music entices the audience and he gradually, phase by phase, takes them into a trance as the notes lead them, to 'Nada-Samadhi'. It is an experience that is impossible to verbalize. He becomes an enchantress as she takes the audience into confidence with a promise of some great secret and becomes one with the raga and the audience. The audience become spell bound. According to his students, they have a Kaleidoscopic experience, when he guides them. I know because this has happened to me. By grace I met a yoga jinn who was the master of the Been.
