Zila Khan's singing style of Sufi Music comes from her learning classical music from her father Ustad Vilayat Khan. He is also historically credited for being the first to perform Sufi songs and Folk songs onto the main Classical Stage performances.
Zila Khan's unique blend of Khayal gayaki and classical compositions woven into Sufi Lyrics has became her USP thus her concerts became a popular trend. Her innovation / raagdaari and research to add related poetry or classical compositions into the main Sufi rendition is her forte. This sets her style apart from Qawwali from what is now known as Sufi Music.
