What a classy lady. She exudes friendship and goodwill to everyone around her. Her abilities on and off the field are remarkable, and so deserving of high praise
I just want to say I love the way Rich conducted this interview. He interviewed Julie Ertz as Julie Ertz. So many people would interview her as Zach Ertz's wife. I am also glad her book is for young adults specifically. The U.S. Women's team was amazing and has a ton of stars and personalities.
Zach Ertz won a national title. Julie Ertz won (another) *International title... You're small minded if all you think about is a game played domestically.
@@stewAC -- Reading comprehension is a skill a ton of people are lacking. I praised the interviewer for interviewing the two time international champion correctly instead of praising her more famous domestic partner.
Rich, you hit the nail on the head, it makes us men emotional because we're not emotional by nature, but our little sisters and daughters are, and that gets to us men, we want to give them everything including the fame and fortune and respect they deserve
Julie is now a member of a World Championship team for a SOLID EIGHT YEARS. Zach for only one. But, at one point, they were the only man and wife team who were concurrent world champions. Hope he is on another one in the meantime.
I was just thinking about this. There's no way that's happened before, husband and wife athletes holding world titles at the same time. I'm not sure if there are even any family members who have done it. Need to get the Elias Sports Bureau on that one lol.
She cites the growth of soccer as a great backdrop for the increased opportunity to play the sport for both genders. The big challenge is getting enough qualified coaches and enough playing fields for that increased demand.
Pay equity is fine, but you can't pay more if the stadium isn't full and advertising doesn't pay the same as mens sports. Not at all saying anything negative regarding women, its just as a business you need the revenue stream to increase salaries etc...
Patrick Keefe Yes, but Patrick, you realise feminists and the gynocentric society doesn’t want to hear that because feelings? And because vagina as well or something?
I have lived in or near Philadelphia since 1978. Recently there was some sports writer drivel about who the Eagles should trade, blah, blah, blah. The writer decided that Zach should stay ... for now. Let me be clear: NO ONE here wants to see Mr. Julie Ertz traded!
This is a fine person and a great athlete. Unfortunately, Julie was part of the wrong US soccer team that beat China in the World Cup. I was a huge fan of women’s soccer during the Mia Hamm era, and when the US beat China in the World Cup in 1999 all Americans celebrated. We fell in love with that team. The players from the 1999 team are revered to this day. Fast forward to Julie’s 2018 team. Another great win against the Chinese, only this time the moment was permanently ruined because their captain thought it best to use her 15 minutes of fame to give us her political views. It turned me off, as it did, I am sure, millions of others. It ended all of my interest in the 2018 team, and made me sentimental for how it once was.
For FIFA payouts this is true, and that's not the issue in my eyes. I think FIFA pays them fairly. The issue is US Soccer. The USWNT generates more revenue for US Soccer than the USMNT does, and yet is paid less.
Eric Brown lol money don’t come out of thin air. The money eventually comes from fifa because it monopolizes the world of soccer. The way things are structured right now, no amount of money uswnt is going to make their compensation close to the USMNT. The math just doesn’t work out. If you are saying they should take from USMNT compensation to compensate USWNT, you should come out and say it boldly.
