In this episode my father and I take a weekend trip up the Mirror Lake Highway in Utah to target two subspecies of cutthroat trout. The state fish, the Bonneville Cutthroat is my second species of the four natives in the state. Finally we end up in the Uintahs chasing Colorado River Cutthroat. Two species of native cutthroat, one weekend. Let’s see if we can accomplish our goal. The Bonneville Cutthroat and Colorado River Cutthroat are my species 11 and 12 on my quest to 1,000 species of fish caught.
The Utah Cutthroat Slam is a challenge that is put on by the Utah Division of Natural Resources and Trout Unlimited here in Utah. The challenge is designed to get anglers out to try their hand at catching all four subspecies of native cutthroat trout in their native Utah ranges.
