I'm not kidding when I say that this is a Hollywood level video. The aerial footage is incredible. The terrain here is very interesting. Everything looks dry almost like a desert. The cliffs and rock formations in the background are massive and huge. The trains looks like toys in the shadows of the rock walls. The UP engines are really pretty, I love them. Thanks so much for another fantastic video Dan. This was a productive trip, one of your best ever.

Well thank you Z that is very kind! I really loved it out there and was excited to be able to have some time out here even after so much time spent on Solider Summit. I love those Book Cliffs as a backdrop. I've got two more videos from Utah and I think you're really going to enjoy them!

Dan, the Utah desert with its rock formations is beautiful! The trains winding around the rock formations and past the mesas is amazing. Your trip to Utah in October 2023 has provided us with all these wonderful videos to enjoy. And you said that there is at least one more Utah video coming.

Thank you Thomas I agree I love all the rock formations! One could think it's not very exciting out here but with backdrops like that I think it's great. I've got two more Utah videos coming up and I'm sure you will enjoy them both! This one to me was kind of a lull to the more exciting videos throughout my time there. I'm very excited for the remaining two.

Thanks, Dan, for another wonderful body of your work. Everything is so well done as usual, and your talent is amazing!! Over the years I have had the opportunity on vacations to drive in Utah multiple times in many areas of the state. I now begin to understand why it was so hard to stay on the road because my eyes were never on the road!!! It is such stunning scenery, so desolate and your drone work only enhances that perception. Can't wait for more adventures, you never disappoint!!

Your artistic talents are showcased once again as you were covering an area that some would say is very un-scenic. Of course I disagree and this video has highlighted the beauty of this area. Yes you were blessed with many more trains than normal yet your video did an excellent job of showing the most-regular 5 & 6 through this scenic area. As always your drone pilotage is the best and thanks for making the narrations a regular part of your productions.
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 7 месяцев назад
I know what you mean. Some could easily see this as not very scenic but I am with you. I was quite excited to get out here to film some action. The Book Cliffs really are a striking backdrop in my opinion. I am very satisfied with how many trains I captured out here for sure! Thanks for letting me know you like the narration because it was a big leap to start doing that but I have had such great feedback about it.

Right before you said that the last area looked like the moon I thought the same thing 🤣😂 Also, my absolute favorite part was seeing that local as it headed down the short line. What a spectacular angle you got with the sun reflecting off the gapped rails and side of train. Sure, it would've been awesome if the freight was longer, but to see that it was what it was, especially with that much horsepower pulling it, honestly made the capture that much cooler. Lastly, you know where I'm at at what I'm used to seeing, just as you are; but each time I see 'rivers' like the Price in this video, it makes me chuckle some. I mean, there are streams here that are bigger than that river most the time! Lmao! Awesome job filming, Dan. Keep up the great work my friend! Tell your family I said hi for me!! =D
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 7 месяцев назад
Isn't it crazy it totally does look like the moon and I badly wanted a better shot there with good sunlight but it didn't work out. I too wish it was a longer train heading down the branch but I was excited to get anything at all on there. Not something I had planned to try and get at all. No kidding on the river sizes I can think of a couple of creeks in our state that are larger than the Price River. Thanks a lot Mike good to hear from ya and stay tuned for a couple more pretty sweet videos from Utah.

@@TheRailfanDan And the spot you refer to as your favorite spot is my favorite spot -- the mesa/tower (38.95295, -109.9796) in the BG really makes it for me. I've seen a photo taken years ago of that mesa from ground level and that was what drew me to it.

The scenery in this video and most all of your videos...to see it in person as you do must be very satisfying. So I've wondered lately...have you ever lost a drone due to an "uh-oh, oops I didn't see that" or maybe even a bird strike...I've seen lots of birds flying around drones in other videos and was just curious! Love this...Thank you!
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 3 месяца назад
It was fantastic to finally see this region in person and the Book Cliffs really are magnificent! Yes to answer your question I have had a number of operator error crashes with drones before. It has either been trees or powerlines (powerlines are the WORST). I have had two drones fall out of the sky without warning and I have crashed into powerlines or trees... Four times. Some of those were real bad and some were not so bad! It is definitely always a risk especially flying backwards like I do so much of the time. I have had birds get real close before but never any incidents with any luckily. Knock on wood for that!

Great video coverage of an area I've railfanned a few times. Like your narration, but I personally could do without the music. Would much rather hear the train.
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 7 месяцев назад
Thanks a lot! the music is there because drones to not record audio. If they did then you would only hear the buzzing of the propellers. Once in a great while I will sync up ground audio to the drone video but that takes a lot of effort to get correct and make it sound like what you're actually seeing. I personally get very particular about it too and won't do it unless I can make it perfect.

Well drones do not record audio. If they did then you would only hear the buzzing of propellers. That's why I record the ground footage though. So you get some train audio even if it's only a little.

FYI I skip the intros on every video they are used. I do not want to see something I will see some minutes later... Can there be a map of the line were we are? Not every one is from the USA (like me)
@MrDavil43
@MrDavil43 8 месяцев назад
Maps for us foreigners would be handy. I try to find the locations on Google Earth but not always very obvious. The intros don't bother me, the sheer quality of what's to follow makes it worth a second view.👍
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 7 месяцев назад
I mainly started doing the intros to try and grab viewers attention and want to continue to watch. They say the first few seconds on a video are crucial to want to capture the audiences attention. So its more for those who haven't seen my videos before. I have thought about maybe trying to do maps but I'm not sure how I would incorporate that each and every video so I try to at least be good about giving somewhat specific locations so if someone really wants to know then they can look it up.

Thank you for your praise! I do apologize for me it's just a little bit too long and drawn out to have a whole train go by on camera. I want to keep my videos flowing quicker than that. I try to at least make sure the entire train is seen throughout the drone shots as best as I can. Sorry to disappoint!
