Northern pike are a real problem in Utah Lake, and this species is decimating native species in the lake, like the endangered june sucker. Giant pike can grow to more than four feet, and their diet is heavy on popular sport fish like white bass and walleye.
Utah’s Division of Wildlife Resources inserts a transponder to track the fish's movements with the eventual goal of eradicating them from the lake.

Pike are the best thing in that lake! Reduce white bass numbers will make bigger white bass, and they eat a ton of baby carp!

Pike is my dream fish to catch ever since I moved to the mid West. Much rather catch a huge pike than a catch fish or carp or small mouth bass or tiny rainbow. And they're not nearly as destructive as carp. Utah lake has always had a major carp problem. The last 3 years Provo river and Utah lake stinks from dead rotting carp. Let's work on that first

To bad the biologist in utah dont know the real history of Utah lake, northern pike have been in the lake just as long as the walleye have been and the original first DNR put them there in the 50s

Talking to one of the fisheries biologist the june suckers are not reproducing. The numbers only increase bu puttinh them in the lske. All the fish in Utah lake xenobiotic, excep the cuckers. So this is a bit misleading.

I see the comment section is full of Utah Lake and pike experts. They definitely know what's best right?
