A rocky road is ahead for the Utah Railway, as they now must adapt without pulling coal trains for the first time in their history. After losing their coal contract in December of 2016, they now only pull a few road trains from Provo, UT to Helper, UT a week. In addition, the extremely rare Utah Railway SD50S's and MK5000's (MK50-3's) are losing their red and yellow colors as Genesee & Wyoming is continuing to repaint them into the well known black and orange colors. With all this taken into consideration, seeing a large consist of a Utah painted SD50S leading MK5000's with a large train of tankers over Soldier Summit is becoming more unusual today. On February 16th, 2017, train HUTAHJ-16, lead by UTAH 6063, took a large string of tankers and hoppers to the railroad's home base in Helper, UT. This video shows the full chase of the train battling Soldier Summit and beyond. Enjoy!
