This is just infuriating… my cousin got her life taken from an ex. She was a week away from graduating at San Diego state.. Ever since I saw the look in my aunts eyes, and hearing her cry herself to sleep.. I always always think of the moms. Moms have these forever bonds with daughters and to see that broken is the most devastating sight I’ll ever see.. My condolences to her family and friends❤

Parents also have a big part in it, they thought that handing kids everything they didn't have growing up or giving them a slap on the rist & turning their head the other way is better than teaching them values & that nothing is just handed to you & there are consequences for your actions. Relationship abuse needs to be taught in families, schools, church, society along with good relationship skills. Age appropriate, that should go without saying. Yes, families where abuse occurs will come to light, same with power clinging. But for the sake of the young, it has to be done. People need to put their personal fears and ego aside. It is hard, it is ugly sometimes. But if it saves the children, it is worth it. My mother did this in our school district for grades 11 & 12 for two years. It did help some children. But some parents wanted to hide their shame so they complained to get it stopped. Ego has to be put aside for the better for the children, the adults and the future adults and children. It should not get to this point. RIP child and peace to both families.

Neither could I and I lost one to cancer two years ago. The guilt has to be outrageous too because even if they didn't really know what was going on, or didn't question the sister, hindsight is always perfect. I pray that they get counseling immediately. They must be assured that this is not their fault and there's nothing they could have done to change it.

Dating and relationship violence needs to be discussed in families, at the very least to prepare young people for what they might encounter. My guess is that she may have had hid what was going on in the relationship because relationship violence doesn't just come from nowhere...there are often red flags. I've never even thought of that honestly. Kids could easily find a way around that of course especially if they have a car but if you taught your kids from a young age the dangers and pitfalls of serious relationships in H.S. they will probably take your advice.
I have a friend who wasn't allowed to date until 16, and only double dating until age 18. She was also told to not date any guy more than once in a row. She could date the guy again, but not exclusively, and not consecutive dates.
I was the same with my 3 girls. They hated it as teenagers but they are thankful now & will be the same way with their kids. One of my close friends was shot in the head by her boyfriend when we were 16 & thank goodness she lived but it took her over 3 years to walk & talk again and she's left with lifetime disabilities from it. Her boyfriend unalived himself immediately after. Very sad all around.

That's why dating at a young age is not a good thing to do. Live your life, go to school and college. Stop trying to date just because you feel you need someone or just because you see others dating. Parents need to stop thinking that it is so cute to see your teenaged daughter or son having a boyfriend or girlfriend in highschool. There was a murder suicide involving two teens last year in my city of Springville, Utah. In the same exact week a lady shot her grandfather in the head , and a guy killed his neighbor right on his own doorstep all in the same little town of Springville. Utah is DEFINITELY changing fast.

Foolish parents who keep guns at home with teens. Same exact thing happened at my High School except girl was 16. Shot by 18 ex-boyfriend because they broke up.
Most of the teens don't bother getting an arm for themselves. Most times, like most criminals, they either buy a stolen gun, steal a gun, or "borrow" their parents. Getting a legal firearm is a hassle, which only responsible, law abiding teens would do. So age has little to do with it I bet. We'll wait for more info, but I bet that was either his parents gun or a stolen gun. Gun control only works if people obey the system. Criminals don't obey any system. The best prevention is to lock up your guns. Don't share the passcode or key unless you trust them. Don't boast or brag about your guns. Keep your guns hidden.

Teen dating violence is REAL and parents and teachers need to openly address these issues similar to how we address bullying. I'm sure there were signs of abuse that everyone minimized and looked the other way. 🙏🏿 for her family as I'm sure they are devastated!!!
