Is it mandatory to get Gadolinium ( contrast)? I am scheduled for an MRI next week. I had/ have a fibroid about 6- 7 years ago. I still wanted to conceive( did not conceive yet and may be too old now), so did not want hysterectomy. I got a focused ultrasound. The fibroid did not go away but after time did shrink some. But now, the same fibroid is bigger( started 10...went to 7..is at 12 now) than when started. I was told it would be harder to remove since I did the focused ultrasound, which woukd cause fibrosis( so I asked another medical person to understand that & she said fibrosis woukd occur from FUS, which makes it sticky). I have now seen the danger of Gadolinium so want to know if enough info can be seen , usually, with ..just an MRI ..without contrast. Several doctors mentioned cancer from the fast recent growth. In a couple to a few yrs a few centimeters. I am 47. Like so said..I did want a child but would not have sex w/ out protection because my local doctor said the focused ultrasound did not work & the fibroid was thriving. He said becoming pregnant woukd be like putting miracle grow on it. But ..i am saying so much! Can you tell me if it would be good enough to get an MRI w/out gadolinium in hopes of getting a myomectomy to get the thing out?

Recently read in science article statins (for high cholesterol) proven to shrink fibroids. Maybe your doctor would prescribe it off label?
